I would love a 5:4 crop in addition to the current 3:2 crop. I just love the look of those files for some inexplicable reason. This can be done via firmware and, if it's anything like my D800e 5:4 mode I will lose some megapixels - on the D800 it goes from 36 to 30 so I would anticipate the 24.3MP would drop to 20? My guess. But I would love that crop... Both in JPEG and RAW

Is it just me or the lowish light files are too noisy?
jlmphotos replied to synthesaur's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
I too found the X-T2 noise unacceptable and refused to use it in low light. I kept using my X-T1. I think you would see more noise in a 24mp camera than you would in a 16mp. That's the magic of physics. I hated shooting my 36 megapixel D800e at anything over 640ISO even though I KNEW that the extra noise, was just the massive amount of resolutions and pixels. I believe this is the same situation we face with the difference in noise between the X-T1 and X-T2 (in my case) If you downsample the T2 files, down to T1 size, it should clear up some of the noise, but then why bother getting the X-T2? Right? So, yes upon initial assessment in LR it does look noisier, but once you fix it a bit, and PRINT IT, the increase in resolution, and clarity make up for the noise and it pretty much disappears in print. -
No damage whatsoever! None. Not even scratched. And it all works just fine.

Do we tolerate the bodies because of the lens qualities?
jlmphotos replied to frankinfuji's topic in General Discussion
Wow. I had no idea! I shoot with Fuji just because I love the cameras and the lenses. I've had my X-T1 since February 2014, and my X-T2 since September 2016; On my X-T1, I have experienced NONE of those symptoms. I've used my camera extensively everywhere from salty, humid swamps and beaches, all the way to below zero freezing weather. Maybe some folks have kryptonite for hands? Just kidding... For the foreseeable future I will continue to shoot Fuji. Period. -
Over the holidays I was shooting up in the North East. Just so happened I drop my X-T2 TWICE in one week! Once out the back of my Outback when a family member grabbed the coat the camera was sitting on and pulled the coat out of the car sending the X-T2 crashing to the floor with the 16 1.4, and the second time, again from the back of the open hatch, with the 55-200. You'd think I'd learn a lesson. But no. Not even a scratch on body or lens. I guess it helps it fell onto ice - The camera did leave a chip mark on the ice though. Scary stuff...

Upset at the Vertical Grip discount for 100
jlmphotos replied to Brooklynboy's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
If you wanna be a pioneer, you are gonna get hit with arrows. That's the way it goes. If you wait a bit, you'll get a better deal. I'm waiting until that grip is under $250US.... When will that happen? Maybe never, but in all honesty I really don't need it just yet. J -
As a corporate IT Manager I've dealt with Sony, in addition to many other vendors. Next to Nikon, I consider their service to be one of the worst. ever. With regards to cameras, I would read up on reviews; I have no personal experience with Sony cameras but I understand their cameras are slow, clunky, menu-driven and the image quality, though FF, is not up to par. So, place your bets... And, as an FYI I went from Nikon D800 and D800e "down"to Fuji X-T2 an X-T1 and honestly, unless I am printing larger than 24 x 20 or so, I really couldn't tell the difference. So it was a no brainer to dump the extra weight.

Man, if I can find a inexpensive water housing for my X-T2 and the 18-55, or 16 1.4 that would be fantastic! I was planning on getting on for the X-T1 & my 18-55

To those upgrading to X-T2 from X-T1, worth it?
jlmphotos replied to ErikN's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
YES! So many advantages (as listed above by other posters). As a matter of fact, I just sold my last of the Nikon gear - the D800e and a 50mm after getting the X-T2 and comparing the 24mp to the 36mp. Disadvantages? Now having to deal with both bodies. I wish they were both X-T2's, but yea, first world problems I guess. -
First of all I must ask where the h*ll are you traveling to that you are so concerned? Wow. Me? I carry a very nondescript bag, with two bodies X-T2 and the "1" plus depending on what I intend to photography the 12mm, 16mm 1.4 and the 18--55. If I do have both bodies primed with lenses, I always leave one in the bag. I don't do street, so in my case there is NOTHING i need to photograph that can't wait until I pull the camera from the bag. In my home state I'm licensed to carry a concealed weapon so I don't really worry about when walking around. But elsewhere-- and I shoot everywhere from the Eastern Canadian border down to Little Haiti (seedy & shady area-- no insult intended, it just is, but it's WONDERFUL ) in Miami, and San Juan + other areas of PR, for some reason I just don't sweat that.

I think the joystick is kinda worthless
jlmphotos replied to Jwctp's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
Blasphemy I yell. Blasphemy. Actually in all seriousness I wish my X-T1 had one! so the joystick some find useless I find to be a convenience. But, that's just me. -
Yes! As far as I'm concerned they can substitute the 16:9 with 5:4 ANY DAY!

That's right. The Files are compressed. I realize it's just like a zip file, but for some reason it irks me and my OCD compels me to use the un-compressed . I do realize doing so doubles the file size and places a strain on storage but again, storage prices are so low... I have 24 TB of storage space between my Drobo and a WD Raid, and am only utilizing about 8TB so it's no big deal here. I was shooting with a D800 and a D800E so those files were also huge so dealing with the X-T1 and X-T2 files, at least for me, are no big deal.

Damn. Sorry to hear that. I hope (in a good way) the camera was damaged more than you. Glad to hear it still functions!

I use a no name brand I picked up on Amazon. It has a digital display, uses AAA batteries, has an on/off switch, and does time-lapse as well. I think it cost under $20.00 US

My icelandic trip with my fuji x-pro2
jlmphotos replied to darkshine231's topic in Landscape & Travel
I can't say which image I like better! They are all AMAZING! Well done sir, well done. -
When I first got the X-T2 I used Compressed raw. Then I saw the actual raw files, when imported in LR, were around 25MB, compared to the 33MB of the X-T1. How can that be? I then switched the X-T2 to uncompressed Raw which generates a 50MB raw files and I haven't looked back! On a 32G SD card I can get 497 uncompressed Raw + JPEG Fine. It is very possible that compressed and uncompressed have the same quality, but I always wonder about that. On my D800e I shoot lossless compressed which brings the size from around 70MB to 50-55MB. 45mb read/write, 60mb read/write SD cards are cheap. Sandisk, Lexar, and other brands are always on sale somewhere. I have around 16 32G SD cards that I've accumulated whenever there is a sale on somewhere, so I'd rather shoot the uncompressed and not worry about it.

I own both the 18-55 and the 35 1.4. I purchased both of these with my X-E1 back in February 2013. The 18-55 is my "don't leave home without it lens" and the 35 1.4, though not used as often, pretty much goes with me anywhere and everywhere. The 18-55 is ultra-sharp, it is light, it is small, and it is fairly fast at F2.8-F4 variable aperture. With OIS, it's pretty darn near perfect for me. You can check out my blog in the signature block below to see how I've used it in pretty much any weather, anywhere. Just with the 18-55 alone, I've "kept" not taken mind you, over 30,000 images (per my LR collection); many, many are for stock sales. The 35 1.4 is just a gorgeous lens. Yes, you'll read it's not ultra-sharp in the corners, blah blah blah, but I will never, ever do away with that lens as long as I have an X-camera. It just gives images a certain look, and the fast aperture helps tremendously in low light, and the bokeh is amazing. It's a b*tch to lock focus at times, but when it does, it's cutting edge. There was a post here somewhere a while back asking what are your two favorite lenses -- I chose as my #1 the 18-55, and the 16 1.4 as the number 2, but the 35 1.4 i an amazing piece of glass --- and it's a looker as well.

I never rename, or manually select a folder in camera. I've seen it happen where a particular folder is imported, and another is forgotten and deleted accidentally. I let the camera choose the folder. Upon import into LR, I have custom preset that I can leave the filename as is, or rename the shoot as I deem necessary before I import ALL the images off the card into a LR folder titled: New Uploads. This "new uploads" is where I go to cull, and edit the new images. From here, they get selected, as they are flagged, to go to various stock agencies based on content (in collections). Once that process is finished, I then file the images away. Of course, nothing gets done until a backup is finished of the fresh, new uploads. That should go without saying...

I own both and I'm using the BBF on my X-T2. It has a sorta quirky way to setup, but it does work!
-
I use BBF on the X_ I am using BBF on the X-T2 now, in AF-S mode (haven't tried AF-C, but I don't see why it wouldn't work there.
-
IT IS DOABLE on BOTH. I have both. I have BBF setup on my X-T2 now.

She is a beauty! A tad over my budget -- at least my business 2016 and 2017 budget... Maybe I'll see one on KEH.com or Fleabay in the future.
