To Battery Grip or not to Battery Grip
jlmphotos replied to jfoxshoots's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
If you don't need the extra boost, or the charging in camera there are/will be 3rd party battery grips. Personally I've used Zeiko, Menke, and Pixel on all my Nikon cameras and have never, ever had a problem. Plus, for like $49.95 - 69.95 each I can replace the grip five/six times for the price of a (Nikon grip) at least. And the Fuji are just about as expensive... -
Affinity may work for you. IT's like 30.00 US. They have a free trial. Give it a shot. Though this program is not a photo storage app, but more photo adjustment. May I suggest you continue using "photos" on your new Mac, and then an app like Affinity to do some of the heavier lifting you may need to do down the road?

I was under the assumption (and we know what that means) that OIS should be OFF if you are using high shutter speeds, or if the camera is on a tripod. With that having been said, I've been using my 18-55 since February 2013 and I have not experienced this at all (except when I forget to turn OIS off when on a tripod). Have you run any tests? Have you made sure your technique is down pat and that it's not slight motion blur? Have you tried this say by putting the camera on a rock steady surface and shooting a book, or something similar both with OIS on and OIS off? I'm just wondering as I've never experienced that particular issue. Hope you find a solution.

Convince my self of what? Not getting an X-T2??? Heck no! I am definitely getting one! I just don't want to jump on the bandwagon until you guys, here and on other sites prepare your own, personal, unbiased reviews and image quality tests. In addition if I wait until 2017 I can fully deduct the camera from next years income by either taking my Section 179 deduction, or depreciating it over time. So I AM CONVINCED. I am going to get one, but as i said, I'll wait until the kinks are out -- regardless of whether Fuji fixes them or not, I don't want the headaches associated with a problem camera. And just as an FYI I have a Fuji office, where I've had my Fuji S1, S2Pro's from years back repaired less than an hour from my home and they have full walk-in, pro services. Even with all that, I think I'll wait a while. My current X-T1 is still amazing and generates some wonderful images.

Unfortunately I learned my lesson the hard way when I pre-ordered the Nikon D800 back in 2012. What a freakin' mess that was. Now, my D800e is freakin' awesome. Anyway, I will not pre-order. As a matter of fact, I think I'm going to kick back and wait until next spring or summer before I pull the trigger. Why? Because the reviewers online have their "rose-colored glasses" on and/or are using not only pre-production models, but are provided by Fuji. What's the old saying: Don't bite the hand that feeds you? Or how about don't let the fox guard the hen house? In addition I have not seen a SINGLE review(er) yet discuss the image quality!!! Have you? No. They are under orders not to until the camera is released. Why would you or anyone order a new camera, basically sight unseen, which is basically unproven? Like I said, I won't make that mistake again. I'll wait until all the pioneers take all the arrows, then I'll just come along and get the best of the best. I'm in no hurry. If I want added resolution from my X-T1 all I have to do is take a two/three shot vertical pano and wind up with MORE resolution than the 24MP cranks out anyway. But I digress. Yes, I will probably be buying one, but not until all the kinks (if any) are worked out, and not until the price drops a bit. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it

I like them! Especially the last one.

My go to is the 16 1.4 which has a 24mm FF equivalent. It's just amazing! From food photography with it's close focusing, to wide expanses it can't be beat, though I do LOVE my 35 1.4
-
I own the Zeiss 12/2.8 AND the Amazing Fuji 16 1.4. I will say the Fuji 161.4 is freakin'tastic lens!!! What I love most, besides the sharpness and clarity of it --- even wide open --- is that it can double down as a makeshift Macro lens with it's extreme close-focus capabilities. How close you ask? I have to remove the lens hood close... That's close. I don't find it to be difficult to use at all, but again I don't force the scene to fit into the lens. It has to be something that comes naturally I think. Those are my two cents. Here is a link to FIVE images that I've used the 16mm F1.4 to make. I apologize I've yet to figure out how to post them on here. The two tropical ones are stock images (click on them in Flickr to enlarge) , the other three are of my new grandchild. Let us know if this helps make up your mind... Best

I do love Iridient! Unfortunately, it takes me out of my Lightroom workflow, and when reviewing thousands of images at a time it's hard to leave LR. With that being said I despise Adobe in all it's flavors! Hate and abhor them. If they ever go to the pay as you go model with LR, I'm out. I will definitely use Iridient, and Affinity a bit more, maybe the photo mechanics app as well. I don't know. I do use ID as an external editor from within LR, but only sparingly go to it for images I feel can be made better.

I can't tell sh*t from either of these images.... Anything better you guys can post?

And that's another good point!! I do store the original manuals, unused original camera straps, and other plastic tidbits. Great Point Mike G!!!!

Since I have the space in my garage I keep ALL the electronic boxes. I don't know if it helps the resale value, but I like keeping them just in case I have to ship the product back to the manufacturer for any reason. If I do sell something, again it's just nice to ship it with all the paperwork in it's original box. It all comes down to personal preference.

I would sell the 18, and KEEP the 18-55. The zoom is SO MUCH better and sharper, and much more versatile than the 18. That is my "don't leave home without" lens. I love my 18-55...

You will not be happy photographing ANYTHING that moves with a 60mm

Not going to go all political here but this is a "hate" group. Nothing more, nothing less. I refuse to acknowledge them. As a matter of fact, at a recent event three individuals showed up wearing BLM shirts (they had just come from a rally) and I asked them to leave as it was a kids party, not a political event.

For me: 18-55 (I don't leave home without it) 16mm 1.4, and the 55-200 if I only could pack three lenses. I also used to carry around a D800 + a gaggle of Nikons but no more....

Could this be the problem with Fuji's latest firmware they just recalled? -
flysurfer's annual X Users' BBQ on 17JUL in Schwabach
jlmphotos replied to flysurfer's topic in Newbie / Self Introduction
Man I would love to attend this!!! Alas, I'm in the US.... You should plan a Fuji X group tour here in the United States. Either in the big Apple, or maybe the Smokey Mountains, or Acadia National Park... -
You mean you can see a spot on the IMAGES right? Not on the actual sensor? I used to clean my own sensors with my Nikons but I have yet to clean the sensor on my X-T1. I'm thinking of taking it in to a local camera store here that for US30.00 will do it for me. 30.00 is less expensive than having to buy a cleaning kit -- especially if I only clean every two years. On the rare occasion that I've done that I use Photorescue. I bought it back in 2007 and it still works to this day with regular updates.

And his photos were soft, and blurry most of the time. Why everyone bows at the mere mention of this guy is beyond me.

It's a very nice lens. Reasonable weight. Doesn't take too much room. It's W-i-i-i-i-i-d-e though. I find myself using my 16 1.4 oh so much more together with my 18-55

A lot of complaining going on here...
jlmphotos replied to PhotoDan's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
Wow. This thread escalated quickly to this type of commentary. No one is saying you don't have a right to complain. Please, step away from the ledge. It's only a camera. -
X-T2 - Are these specs the final specs?
jlmphotos replied to John RG's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
I'm SURE that feature is still there! I can't imagine they would take that away. -
I too can purchase one or more of them, and I'm not looking for "value". A camera is not an investment. It is a tool. period. A tool that I depreciate. In the end, it is a paperweight worth zero on my balance sheet at the end of it's life. If I had to choose, again, between my Nikon and the Fuji system knowing what I know now there would be ZERO decision; I would be in ALL FUJI. I came from the D3, D300, D700 and D800 world with Nikon lenses. They were fantastic (except for the D800) and the lenses were amazing but they cumbersome and not very discreet. Value: What is it worth "to me" is what you need to ask yourself. Are you an amateur weekend shooter, a semi-pro making some extra dollars or pounds on the side, or a FT Pro? Your decision. I use my Fuji's for all my work. I have ONE Nikon D800E with a 50mm lens left laying around just for sh*ts and giggles because of the amazing flash system and my remote pocket wizards - other than that the rest is all gone. The D800, all the other bodies and lenses...
