    With a budget of $2k, would you buy the xt2 with the kit 18-55 @$1900 or an xt1 @$800with 16-55 2.8 for $1200?
  2. I have been using the adjustment sliders in iPhoto and find them totally adequate for my needs. If I upgrade my OS to El Capitan or buy a new MAC, iPhoto will be replaced by Photo. This app does not have anywhere near the capabilities of the iPhoto app. So. What would the best third party app be? I do not need the advanced features found in Photoshop or Lightroom. Is there any other low cost app that does the job that iPhoto does?
  3. The camera is an X-T1. It has happened using cards from different makers: a PNY and a Lexar.
  4. The SD card gets stuck in the slot. It should pop out with a light touch but I've had to jiggle mine for it to release. Inserting it not easy either. Has anyone experienced this issue? Or spoken with Fuji about it?
  5. Makes sense. Thanks! HUGH
  6. Is it preferable for any reason to shoot in b&w vs. shooting in color and converting to mono in post? HUGH
  7. Looks like I caused some confusion, for which I must apologize. Yes, I misread the very first post of this thread and went off rambling about the 16-50. Sorry about that.
  8. A 16-55 and 50-230 in my bag will cover me for an extremely wide range of situations. I'd begin with those two economical (by Fuji standards) lenses and then start building my prime collection.
  9. I just ordered the 50-230. Haven't received it yet but decided on it because of 230mm tele capability...longest except for the 100-400 which is presently out of my $$$$ range. Found one used, I'm paying almost $550 less than I would for a brand new 55-200. I'm going to see if 4.5/6.7 meets my needs. The samples I've seen on line indicate it might.
  10. Thank you folks for your replies! @susanjane: Indeed, I have the greatest sons and daughter-in-law I could hope for! Now down to business. The kids are not camera savvy. It was advertised as a 'brand new import' with a 1 year warranty. They had no way of knowing the ropes. Their purchase price was $300 below current Amazon and other Fuji USA authorized dealers. If we returned the camera and rebought 'ligit', the difference would be $300 price difference in the body and $109 restocking fee. IOW, I'd be paying $409 for a warranty. We talked it over, and I'll be keeping the gift as is. @Milandro. Thank you for the warranty copies. Mine came from Australia. Depending on my needs (I'm not a paid pro...no gigs per se) I could use the sellers one year warranty or I could ship it down under. I could also drive the unit to Edison, NJ, a mere 30 or so miles away. Fuji says they would give me an estimate and charge me for the repair. From what I've heard, some other companies will NOT work on grey items. They will provide no support and will not even sell parts. Now I am not encouraging anyone to go grey. Given the choice, I would probably not. At least not for a $1000 plus camera body. Lens? Maybe, It depends. But certainly not the $1999 100-400mm. For that, I'd go authorized dealer. So, let's hope all's well that ends well. I guess the situation could be worse. Time will tell.
  11. Hi. I received an xt-1 as a gift but discovered it is grey market. Seller wants me to pay postage and 15% restock fee to return. What should I do?
  12. I too am researching used xt1 with and without 18-55. $1150-1200 and $850-900 seem about right for Amazon and for retailers like B&H and Adorama.
  13. Says this is the place for questions so here goes: d5300 with 18-55 vs xt1 with 18-55. Nikon around $500 and used lens in good condition about $100. With recent price reducition, Fuji is $1399. At least $800 difference. Any sigificant difference in image quality? Low light capability? Of course Fuji more compact and better build quality. Please help me decide. HUGH
