  1. I skipped the 14mm and 16mm and bought the 10-24mm. It covers the wide range and is an excellent lens. I didn't see myself needing the large aperture so the F/4 is fine. I own both the 23mm and the X100T. Both are fantastic. The 23mm is better than the built in 23mm of the X100T. I like the X100T and have used it a lot, but you may be better off with the lens. I think the 23mm is a good option if you find you shoot that focal length. The lens is a bit bigger and heavier than the 35mm.
  2. It is tough to say what they mean by "pro" because when you call the support line you press 1 for consumer based cameras or 2 for professional x-series cameras; at least in the US. I agree it will be a while before we see this new tech in the mid level bodies. If you look back at the X-Pro1, it was about equal to the X-E1 and then surpassed by the X-E2 in many technical ways. I would think that Fujifilm would want to start putting a little more gap between the mid-range and high-range models.
  3. I've never been a fan of digital zoom so I don't quite see the point. wouldnt it be better just to crop it later? That way you can adjust the composition some too if needed. Maybe I'm missing something.
  4. If you don't think you need the extra stop of light, I'd go with the 18-55. I'm sure the 16-55 is better in some ways, but the 18-55 has impressed me. Normally kit lenses are the first thing I sell or sit on the shelf. I think the 18-55mm beats the 24-105mm F/4L that came with my Canon. I like the smallness and lightness of the Fuji cameras and lenses. The 16-55 goes against that some but serves its purpose.
  5. this and with many of the reviewers who have shot the X-Pro 2 saying it is faster than the X-T1 sounds very promising. I've been trying to resist buying one now hoping they offer it with a kit of 35mm f/2 but it's getting more difficult to not press the preorder link.
  6. I wouldn't say that he has his camera setup wrong and I completely see his point, but I also see why Fuji did what they did. If you come from shooting a DSLR, you would access the camera menu and review your images on the rear LCD; obviously there is no EVF. I believe this is also the way my first X series worked when I bought it as well. This change, while has some benefits, does feel awkward if you're not used to it. I find the menu easier to see and navigate on the rear LCD and it is easier to push the d-pad when the camera isn't pushed up against your face. Advantages of EVF menu are being able to access the shooting menu without taking the camera away from your eye and not having to turn the LCD on in places where it would be distracting. I think that you and Paul have very different shooting styles and this change works better for you and not as well for him. At least the change has been consistent across the lineup and within time, I think we will all get used to it. I don't use instant review. I don't need to look at the image after I have taken it. I am certainly glad they gave us the ability to keep that off, especially if it shows in the EVF. When I am reviewing images, i prefer to do so on the LCD screen on the back. It is also more convenient for showing the images to another person. I am curious to see if they allow EFV shooting and LCD review on the X-E2 with firmware 4 since that camera does not have a view mode button. This seems to be the only inconsistency left.
  7. From a little more playing with the X100T, it appears they made the menus follow your View Mode preference for the mode you are in. If I am in EVF/OVF Only for shooting and LCD for playback, the shooting menus appear in the EVF but when in playback, the playback menus show on the LCD. I can see how that would be difficult to do something user friendly with if we started moving the menus around too. someone would eventually set playback to LCD and menus to EVF and be confused as to where the menu went and think the camera is broken. As much as I would like to use the EVF for shooting and the LCD for menus, I can see the reasoning for the direction they chose and it makes more sense now.
  8. As far as what Paul said for 1, he is correct. I just confirmed with my X100T sitting next to me. In EVF Only mode, whether in OVF or EVF, the menu appears in the viewfinder but the image playback is on the rear LCD. My X-T1 performs this way as well. My X-E2, however, plays the image back in the EVF. Edit: You can set the X100T and X-T1 to playback the image in the EVF, why can't we do this for menus? For 2, I've seen this as hit and miss. I think it depends on the shape/size of the glasses. There is a slight delay when it turns the EVF on regardless of whether you where glasses or not that bothers me enough I always leave the EVF on. So there is an inconsistency in the way EVF Only works. I don't see why they couldn't let you choose the view mode for shooting, menu, and playback individually. That would allow everyone to setup the camera for their preference.
  9. I can see how it would be a benefit for anyone who uses a battery grip on their X-T1 camera. Personally, I love how small the X-T1 is and haven't even considered making it larger with a grip. I don't think the market is there for a built in group right now, but maybe there will in a few years as more professionals make the change to mirrorless.
  10. I sold my X-E1 about 1 1/2 years ago and bought after buying an X-T1 so I cannot answer as to how the 90mm works on the X-E1. The 90mm does feel a little quicker focusing than the 56mm. The 90mm doesn't really feel quicker than the 23mm, at least to me. I also picked up the X-E2 as a second Fuji body. It is quicker than the X-E1 and the claims are when firmware 4 is released in a few days it will equal to the X-T10 in performance. Seeing that the X-T10 is said to be as quick in AF to the X-T1, this should make the upgrade justifiable.
  11. If I remember the way it worked before was that if you were in EVF only before, the menu still used the LCD screen on the back. You could also tell it to use the EVF for the menu. Now it seems that both are the same and there is no way to change it. I can see reasons for both sides, but I agree it would be nice to have the option to change it. For example, my X-T1 plays the image on the LCD when I have it set to EVF only, but my X-E2 plays it back in the EVF. I like to use the EVF for shooting, but don't necessarily want to hold the camera to my eye to go through the menu to format a card for example.
  12. personally I love the dials on my X-T1. I can see all the settings with the camera off or not up to my face. Before using my X100T, I never used auto ISO. It does come in handy, but I don't always want to rely on auto exposure.
  13. Thank you Typeronin for sharing all the information. This was very helpful. Would love to see some comparison photos of the same seen between the X-T1 and X-Pro 2 to get an idea of dynamic range and colors.
  14. I would like the joystick for AF control, the 24MP sensor (mainly for the faster AF), and I'd sort of like to see the new ISO dial from the x-pro 2 so that the main functions would all be controlled with the right hand. The dual card slots would be nice. I don't care about IBIS and would rather it wasn't there. Optical is generally better and Fuji has pretty good OIS is the lenses that need it.
  15. I would like to see the ISO dial from the X-Pro 2, a tilting LCD, as well as the new sensor and improved AF. I shoot in varying light conditions and frequently change ISO, so having to go use a menu for ISO was one of the reasons I frequently take the X-T1 instead. The AF is the other, but that should be taken care of shortly.
  16. Yeah, this lens is due to be released right at the beginning of Egret nesting season. It should be fun. I've had to use either the 55-200 or my 6D with the 70-200 in the past. I'm also hoping to get back to Colorado this year and maybe Yellowstone so I'm really looking forward to it. May also have to take it to the coast a few times and the zoo.
  17. Congratulations! I've pre-ordered one too, but here I mostly get to use it with birds and alligators. It sounds a lot more interesting there.
  18. I think a lot of people would like to see a quality set of 23mm f/2 prime that is small like the 35mm f/2. A ultra fast 50mm equivalent would also be a nice option. I used my 50mm f/1.2 frequently with Canon. I would like to see a few more specialized lenses. Maybe a tilt shift or longer telephoto primes.
  19. I know this post is a little old now, so you may have already made up your mind. I would rule out the 56mm and 90mm for your usage. The 23mm and 35mm are both great. The 35mm is a fair amount smaller than the 23mm physically. You could put on your 18-55 and set it both focal lengths and see which you would prefer. My preference would go to the 35mm F1/4. The Focus has improved greatly with the firmware update on the X-T1 and would assume it also will improve with the firmware update on the X-E2.
  20. If I could only chose 3, I'd go: 23mm F/1.4 35mm F1.4 90mm F/2 This would give me decent coverage, with a bit of telephoto.
  21. I helped out a lot in the last 1 1/2 years, but at least i've been able to resist the F2/8 zooms for now
  22. I did not have this dilemma as I don't own the Canon version. I was hoping this lens would have been a bit cheaper, more around the $1500 price. I own a 6D and considered for a few hours to buy the older Canon 100-400mm as they are relatively cheap used and a lens this large defeats the whole "small" mirrorless advantage. I read a few reviews talking about the sharpness and image stabilization of the fuji, and decided to hit the preorder button. I have not used the xf 50-140, so I do not know the claims of the AF compared to that lens, but if it can truly do action on my X-T1, I will likely consider abandoning my Canon system all together.
  23. I have the X-T1 with the 23mm f/1.4 as well as the the X100T. It terms of AF speed and overall image quality, the 23mm f/1.4 is a fair amount better. I do rarely use it though because I love using the X100T. The X100t is also much smaller and lighter than the X-T1 with the 23mm F/1.4. When it comes to weddings, I think you would appreciate the quicker AF of the 23mm on the X-T10. My only concern is you only have the one body, but I guess the Pentax would work. The X100T would be a great addition, but as mentioned it is different ergonomically and it also uses different batteries. If you decide X100 series, I'd go with the T and have hopes they upgrade it to the same AF of the X-T1, 10, X-E2, and the X-E2s. I would love to see that firmware update. Either choice would offer good results and work.
  24. So I just read through all the confusion, haha. I'd go with the X-T1 and the 35mm F/2WR. I have the 35mm F/1.4 and it is a great lens, but I think the slightly smaller size, weather resistance, and faster AF will make me use it more than I use the 1.4. The 23mm F/1.4 is also fantastic. If you don't mind manual focusing, pick up a lens adaptor and some old lenses like the Canon FD. I've been moving over to Fujifilm from Canon, where I had a 5D MKII and 6D. I still use the Canon 6D once every few months, and sold the MKII. With the way the fuji cameras shoot and feel, the colors, and everything else, i really don't miss the full-frame. I've considered picking up one of the Sony's to use with old manual focus lenses, but changed my mind. I really love shooting with my X-T1 and X100T. These are the most fun cameras I have ever used.
  25. thanks. Seems mine is also draining the battery with the camera off too. Guess I will send it in once I get back home.
