    Sensor cleaning

Hi all, newbie here. Been using Fuji for around 6 years and just picked up an X-T5 a couple of months ago, coming from X-T2 Anyone thinking of the upgrade, particularly from a 2, it's good. Really good Anyway, I've picked up at least one dust spot on the sensor, and depending on the file it does show. I can easily deal with that with healing, but I want to remove the dust I've always undertaken my own sensor cleaning using Sensor Swabs, and their cleaner, with great success. I'm not a fan of using a blower, seems to create more dust problems than if fixes So my question is, what do I do about IBIS when cleaning the sensor What precautions should I take Thank you in advance

  5. I use it to frame up shots quickly in bright sunlight (exposure), as well as to check focus.

  6. Shot using a B+W 10 stop ND filter and the 3 stop internal ND filter turned on, 77 second exposure. Did a lot of dodging and burning on this. Putting the horizon exactly in the center was a deliberate composition choice. I call this my poor mans Rothko. This all started for me when I saw the cover of the U2 album "No Line On The Horizon" in 2009 and looked up the photographer, Hiroshi Sugimoto. For years his work was in the back of my head. Finally this year I decided to do some long exposure work of my own. This is from my 3rd day ever of shooting LE. For some reason shooting 1x1 really appeals to me and I find myself shooting in that format a lot. C&C if you like. Comments are appreciated.

  8. Not a refugee, but I don't think I've ever introduced myself. Been using Fuji since 2018 when I started with the XT20, and I've since gone from the XT3 to the XT5! Mostly shoot landscapes and nature. But, dabble in street. Look forward to these forums getting more in depth and having bigger discussion

  9. Hi, happy to hear of this; I was afraid I’d be going through withdrawals. I absolutely love Fuji and I am a proud owner of the xt4 and xt5 (as well as many lenses).

  10. Hi and thanks for welcoming is dpreview folk into the fold. I was sorry to see depreview going; for me, it was a great source of information on new products, as well as advice and support. It will be great to have an alternative place for Fujifilm discussions. I own an X-T3, which I use with a variety of lenses - most often these days with the 100-400, as a big interest is photographing birds. Thinking of swapping for the X-H2 or - more likely, IF it gets the same AF update as the X-H2 received - the X-T5. Looking forward to seeing discussions here. Thanks again.

  18. I use it 90% of the time and it's in fact the reason I went for the X-Pro series (i could have gone for the X100's but I like the idea of interchangeable lenses). Having the little preview window is a real bonus for those occasions when I need to get an idea of exposure etc (I never could read those histograms).

  19. Thank you for the warm welcome from a DPReview member. I’ve been checking in with DPReview since around 2001. Sorry to see it go, but nice to be here. I currently own an X-T5 with the 18 1.4. Never seen images so detailed, even with the full frame models I’ve owned. Also have an X100V for about two years now. Beautiful equipment. I started in photography with a Miranda Sensorex II in 1972.

    Cusom settings issue

I think you are saying you want to switch between custom settings and change that display setting (as opposed to a setting that affects the recorded image). As far as I know, the display settings persist across all dial positions (PASMC..). The strategy I use is to assign custom settings to modes of using the camera, i.e. landscape, portrait, street, etc. if there are different things I like to do in those modes, I decide where to put modifiers, like face detection, film simulation, etc. You have 3 more choices: button, the Q menu, My Menu. If you need it instantly (face detection on/off, subject detection) I put it on a button. If I like to be able to see the state because I change it often, I put it in the Q menu. I only use 8 and it's the things I change the most. MyMenu is where I put the next level of things I change, including most things I change from default so I can verify they are set correctly. tl;dr; Put it on a button if you change it frequently, or MyMenu.

  25. This is about a limit of 4GB (binary GB) in transferring using the cable - as you have noted the workaround is to use a card reader. Its not clear if this is a FujiFilm issue or an Apple issue - or both. FujiFilm could do a better job of making this well known as it just happens without any error message and it isn't obvious it has happened until you try and run the chopped file (or look at the size).

  27. The camera was returned with a new top plate. Almost immediately the issue of multiple activations with one press started again. It was getting quite irritating so that I diddn't want to use the camera. Contacted Fuji and they asked me to sed it back to them. All free postage by the way. They had it for a week but couldn't recreate the issue so nothing was done to it. It was returned and the issue seems to have gone. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it remains so.

  28. As a follow-up, I just purchased a new version of the 10-24 and it has none of the issues I found on the older version. I know they are supposed to be the same optically but between these two copies, the new version is better.

  29. I love my X-Pro2 but I would not "upgrade" to the X-Pro3, I don't like the flippy screen and definitely not the way it has been implemented. I don't like the rubbery finish. The X-Pro was supposed to be the leading edge APS-C camera but clearly that is the X-T4 or possibly the X-H2 very soon. To me the X-Pro is the right size but has been forgotten. I really don't want an SLR anymore but to me the X-Pro3 misses the mark. So has it been a success compared to the X-Pro2? I am wondering if the replacement will return to amore conventional X-Pro2 style format without the gimmicks.

  30. I have the 18-135 and like it just fine. Wow, this thing does a lot. If I could only have one lens, this would be it (but I have about 8 and am very fond of primes). The thing is, if you would appreciate only carrying one object, not changing lenses, not needing something to keep the other lens safe in, and always being ready to cover this wide range when the moment calls for it, the single zoom wins. The nicest camera in the world is the one that you have available and prepared the moment you need it.

  31. Interesting that two actual owners of the X-H2S should have similar thoughts on its IQ, (and the plethora of improvements in the camera itself), and have been able to physically compare it to the X-T4, side by side. Interestingly the OP, whilst commenting on Ken's review, stated that he had, "already drawn pretty much the same conclusion about it". If you own one and an X-T4 then your conclusion is valid. If not then....... As I alluded to earlier, I have never seen any photo examples to confirm Ken's points and until then I will treat his reviews as I have always done, which is one of idle curiosity.

  32. He’s wrong about all of it and I seriously doubt he used the camera. I had the X-T3, sold it for the X-T4, and 2 years later I preordered the X-H2s. I have had it since launch and here’s a quick rebuttals to that garbage review. First, the people he spoke about, saying they backed up his claims… Casey from Camera Conspiracies, only tried the pre-release and has since taken one on loan… He loves the thing now. Gerald from Gerald Undone, said the camera’s DR is excellent, Still image capture AF is awesome, and he said thanks to the noise properties he can actually make the video better quality than the A1 (that’s impressive). DPReview, said they wouldn’t rank the camera or comment on most aspects until they got a full retail version of it and that review is happening now. Second, he ignored the stacked sensor and the improved AF speed completely. Then he made assumptions based on his ignorance of the camera and how it functions. He claimed they didn’t think the design through, but his own complaints show he didn’t think it through. I had the X-T4 sitting right beside the new body for about a week… The build quality was very much on par with the X-T4 and yet he praised one while panning the other. So which is it, is the build quality of the X-T4 cheap, or is the X-H2S actually decent build quality. Then of course he tried to equate knowing the X-T4 with knowing this camera and I can tell you they could not be further apart in the way they operate and still be a Fuji body. Many of us have action photos, portraits, BIF, and animal portraits, yet he seems to proclaim it is the worst camera ever. Of course he focused on 1 thing obsessively, that’s the fact that the dials don’t have any push button capabilities. Then he also made a comment that gave away his motivation for the whole review away… Fuji wouldn’t give him a body to review, so he rented or purchased one and panned the whole camera. Oh and as for Muddy images… I set both the X-H2S and the X-T4 to the same settings and swapped the lenses from body to body. The image quality was pretty much identical, so you can ignore that garbage claim too.

  33. Hello GO I thought Ken raised a few valid points and others which were fit for the floor mounted circular filing cabinet. But they were his points as he saw them so good for him. But irrespective of his views and his 4/10 rating, I bought an X-H2S and have to say that it is an exceptional camera. It is so fast, the subject detection system is phenominal and the EVF is in a different league to any of my FujiFilm cameras. I have it side by side with my beloved X-H1, a camera that was hewn from rock, and whilst it doesn't quite have that same 'feel' of indestructability, it is superbly made and tactile wise, a level above the X-H1. What I mean by that is the controls are well damped and responsive, the shutter button is less touch sensitive (ie doesn't fire at the lightest touch), and the control wheels, whilst not clickeable, are precise. The joystick is not as well positioned as the X-H1 but as I have only had the camera for two days, it will improve as my muscle/brain memory kicks in. The extended grip is as good as, if not better than, the X-H1 and though still early days, I found the 100-400mm nicer to hold and use when on the X-H2S with or without either of the TC's. As for the charger, never got one with my X-T4 and yes it is tight of FujiFilm but I am glad that they spent the money on the sensor and the overall package. It shouldn't and didn't put me off but I see where he is coming from. PSAM is not a big deal for me, its on all my Sony's and on mylovely little X-S10 so it came natural to me. The C1-7 modes are just superb and if I had to trade the conventional dials just for this feature then I would...almost, as I still love the manual control nature of my other FujiFilm's. To be able to dial in my favourite settings and recall them at the click of a dial (and lock it should I wish) is fantastic and instant. I have a Delkin Black 150 Gb CFExpress card as well as a SanDisk Extreme SD Card. Never had a CF before, it makes the SD card seem pedestrian and even when on high speed bursts it clears the buffer immediately. I enjoyed Ken's review but I beg to differ with his conclusions and thoughts. As for muddy twixt the X-T4, I am not sure where he got that from but IQ is exactly the same as my X-T4 and X-S10 using all my FujiFilm lenses ......but many more images are 100% in focus and processed 4 x quicker than any other body. It is a cracking camera.

  34. God I couldn’t even get to the end of the video. He’s so annoying and arrogant ‘I am always correct’. I never trust someone with that lack of humility. Sounds to me like he can’t afford it.

  35. Yes - I didn't mention build quality - I don't have an X-H1 to compare but I certainly have no complaints about the X-H2S. Its rock solid and all buttons and dials work exactly as they should - no unnecessary play. It gives every impression it will continue working for years. I haven't yet had need to test the weather sealing but everything fits well together - and in fact the removal of the AF mode switch and dial press switches are only going to improve the overall weather resistance. As for murkiness - I just haven't seen it - perhaps someone will post some examples so I know what to look out for (and situations where the murkiness will appear)

  36. The problem I have with the review is that it doesn't address what I think is the main advantage of the camera for stills photographers i.e. speed and improved autofocus. He says that face/eye detection has not improved over the X-T4 but does not address subject tracking (beyond the comment that animals should not have been divided into birds and others which I agree with). If you don't test the camera for its abilities to shoot wildlife and sports its difficult to come up with any conclusions about its value. Much of the review was centered around what I think are relatively trivial criticisms - like the lack of focus mode switch, dial click switches and the lack of a battery charger. I also think the review could have been 20 minutes shorter - and still have made the main points.

  38. A truly niche camera would be an X-Pro 4 that has no video features whatsoever, Zero A state of the art stills only camera would be a surprisingly big winner in my view. Why force folks like me to buy hybrids with so many camera models already. Do something really different Fujifilm, Please. Non video users are a part of the market to that no one is catering too.

  39. It's not that I don't like them. It's more that I HATE THEM!!! I use my LCD on my XT-3 and XT-2 at different angles every time I go out. It's how I get into close spots and get the shots I like to get. Using a selfie screen makes the camera twice as wide and impossible to reach the angles I normally shoot.
