Hi !

Here's a few from the ladies Giant Slalom taken at at the FIS-Super Série Sports Expert in Stoneham, Québec, Canada.

It's the last downhill skiing competition weekend of the season in the area and I should be covering the men's comp next Sunday so you can expect some more pics in the next days.

Shot with a X-T2 (with the 2.0 firmware) and XF50-140 + XF1.4TC combo.

PP in LR6.9 + Irident's X Transformer + Nik's Suite

Just tried out my X-T2 with my 90 f/2. Using AF-C custom setting 4 (suddenly appearing subjects). Worked like a charm. Next time I'll work on getting actual well composed shots.

Hi!

I finally got a XF100-400 to pair with my T2 a few weeks ago but did have a chance to try it out in a sport context until last weekend at the 16th edition of the annual "Vagues en Ville" Whitewater Festival here in Québec City.

It is a really nice 2 days event that marks the beginning of the season for the White Water community on a 4 km stretch of R3 rapids of the St-Charles River.

I have been shooting this event since 2013, first with a X-E1 paired to the XF60 or XF14mm (yep!) and now with a T2 and the XF100-400, nice evolution Fuji, keep it up !!! clear.png

Hi

I had the chance to cover another White Water event last weekend.  :)

This is my second year covering the Neilson River Race, one of the most bad-ass and intense annual kayak race in Quebec.

It is a pure time trial with each team of two kayakers racing a 3km class IV+V section with 6 major rapids, each team has one lap to enter their fastest time.

This river flow in a steep gorge and the only two land access are at the starting point, the Big Eyes Rapid, and at the ending rapid, the Double Drop (Class VI) which offer the best view on the action.

All shots were taken from almost the exact same spot where I was able to follow the paddlers as they approach the top of the rapid all the way down to the bottom where most of them were underwater and had to do a eskimo roll to right them self back up.

As the old saying goes: location, location, location....

Keeping in mind that the air is filled with mist and water droplets and that every part of the boats and paddlers are covered with running water, I'm quite happy with the IQ and AF of my T2.

Shot with a X-T2 + XF50-140mm + VB grip combo, on Boost, AFC with zone AF (3x3 grid), drive on CH (11 fps), AFC custom setting at 2 (follow), Raw.

PP in LR 6.9 + Irident's X-Transformer + Nik's Suite.

Haven't posted in a while. Tested Fujis 100-400 in a game of football between Estonia and Belgium. Stadium was quite badly lit, so at F5,6 had to push ISO to 8000. Shot in JPEG. The lens is superb, but for those badly lit situations I'd like to get longer fixed lens from Fuji!

    • Ahh, the infamous brick wall photos… 😀 According to internet lore, if the dng converter does not properly apply the corrections, you can have it apply custom profiles that should work for you. How to do that is waaaaaay outside of this comment’s scope, but there are plenty of sites listed in the search engines that step you through the processes. Best wishes.
    • Jerry Thank you very much. That is extremely helpful. It seems that the camera and the lens have the latest firmware update, so it appears that the corrections should be applied automatically. The lens arrived this afternoon and I took some quick test shots, in which the correct lens information appeared in the EXIF files, so that sounds good. I used Adobe DNG converter to convert the Raw (RAF) files, and then opened the DNG files and saved them in PSD format. However, with a beautiful, clear, cloudless blue sky, there were no lines near the edges to check if distortion had been corrected. Another day I plan to photograph a brick wall. Thank you for your help.
    • Typically you need to make sure the lens is compatible with the camera, i.e. check the lens compatibility charts for your camera, then make sure the respective firmwares are updated so older issues are resolved. After that, each lens has a manufacturer’s profile which will be embedded into the raw file meta data for the images captured using that lens. From there, it is up to the raw conversion software to apply the lens correction to the image. Different converters do that differently, some automatically, some only if a setting is turned on. For in-camera jpegs, the on-board converter does the corrections automatically, assuming the camera recognizes the lens, it applies a generic profile otherwise. I do not know if that can be turned off or not.
    • How does one make sure that Fuji's image correction is turned on to correct barrel and pin-cushion distortion on a GFX 100 or GFX100S when using the GF20-35? Is it only applied to the jpegs and not to the raw files? (I was surprised to discover the barrel distortion on the GF 35-70mm lens.) I normally shoot in raw with jpeg back-up and use the raw files, which I convert either in Affinity Photo 2 when editing with that program or in Raw File Converter Ex 3.0 by Silkypix if I wish to process the image in Photoshop CS6. (Adobe DNG is also a possibility.) Thank you for the help. Trevor
