  1. Mostly all I would change (assuming the usual internal upgrades to match the sensor etc. to whatever the current standard is) would be to add some kind of thumb rest that didn't mean I had to take up the hotshoe.
  2. Store your camera standing on its base. This stops any dust settling on the sensor and also allows any dust on the sensor to fall off. In larger DSLRs there is a piece of material under the sensor to retain dust, not sure if Fuji's or any other mirrorless have this same thing (it would be much smaller!).

    Pancake 12 f4?

That lens cap lens is on sale in Japan and available on eBay. It's called the XM-FL.
  4. I expect that fuji aren't rushing to make longer focal lengths simply because they don't yet have the AF performance that is implicitly required for these lenses. Above all Fujis priority has been on the whole system and not just ticking boxes and I think that's why they've got a lot of goodwill from experienced enthusiasts. I can envision the day a few years from now where they finally have the processing power to create a good 'birder' camera that also has a very large buffer and ridiculously high fps rate. On that day I imagine we'd also see at least a couple of long, fast lenses release as well.
  5. Unless you're storing the body cap in a ziploc bag you're probably introducing just as much pocket lint into the sensor box as us non body cappers are (in dust equivalent).
  6. Have you considered and ruled out the samyang options?
  7. You can, each screen remembers your preferences with the DISP button. Just put your eye up to it and cycle to the info you want, it won't affect what the rear LCD displays.
  8. I'm very happy with mine, it changed my outlook on the primes, I now only get very small prime lenses (the X-E2 with the 18 or 27mm is coat-pocketable). Obviously it's not as wide as the 14, although I personally cover the wide® end with the two Samyangs. It's nowhere near as heavy or unwieldy as the 50-140 although you might want a thumb grip / L plate grip (if you don't have them already for the 50-140!) but it's marginal. I guess it really depends if you like to massively overdo shallow DoF effects or not. Personally I'm really starting to hate seeing subjects that are only marginally in focus, a feature of the digital age it seems. As to IS, I just bump the ISO. Low light performance of the X-trans is one of the reasons I shoot Fuji anyway. As usual with IS, it's not a substitute for faster shutter speed.
  9. but when someone's nose and ears are out of focus because you've focused on the eyes it just looks awful.
  10. It is very fast, but it's probably limited by the camera. lensesforhire.co.uk just added a bunch of Fuji lenses to their range.
  11. I prefer zooms in the mid to long range and to that end I have both the f/2.8 zooms (I still have my 18-55). The key feature of the 16-55 for me is that it's at its best around f/4, whereas the kit lens peaks around f/8, but even then the big zoom is still superior. It's absolutely no contest wide open, the 16-55 is a lot sharper. OIS is useful in some circumstances and that's why I keep the 18-55, I don't really care about the relative sizes; if I need a small camera I'll use the 18 or 27, on my x-e2 these combos can fit in my pocket, or hang nicely, which is not true of the 18-55 anyway.
  12. hire them and try them yourself, if you can't borrow or get an extended trial.
  13. In the field I carry a spare rear cap so I can cap the lens I'm taking off and put it away before I get the new one out.
  14. Cura te ipsum. If we're going to get forum police'd for every acronym then I'll find a new forum.
  15. It's not intolerant to assume most people here understand the basics, it's niche enthusiasts forum. In fact, it's condescending to assume people don't.
  16. Is there much point in a 18mm f/2.8? The f/2 is pretty small already.
  17. Ultimately you can either have an enthusiasts forum with deep and fast paced discussion or a beginners forum with laborious explanations and basic reiteration.
  18. Indeed, but I think it's a certainty, assuming they can control the corner brightness and resolution. F/1.0 makes a lot of people sit up and take an interest in your system I think.
  19. I'm pretty happy with my set of 8mm FE 12mm 18mm 27mm primes and the f/2.8 zooms. I guess the 100-400 and TC are the obvious choices. Does the upcoming macro have OIS? edit: looks like it does, plus a focus distance limit switch. So that's a significant possibility as well.
  20. Need to see more info on the f/1.0 first.
  21. Is it true to say that using slightly larger lens elements than is necessary helps to reduce vignetting and improve corner sharpness?
  22. I doubt if adding WR adds much to production costs, especially in simple primes. It's just a design compromise.
  23. Focus tuning is not relevant when we focus on the sensor, just as it isn't for live view on a dslr. It seems more like your AF or camera-> lens electrical connections could be faulty, or maybe something impairing the sensor?
  24. It seems like the natural evolution from the current trends for the overuse of bokeh, smear more and more of the image until I start to think I have cataracts.
