  1. Hi Joel, I've had a quick play with the revised On1 product (to be honest I'm not really unhappy with my existing non-LR based workflow, so I'm a tough sell) For the sharpening junkies, I PERSONALLY feel it still lags behind Irident, but not so much that it actually matters (although that's probably true for every X-Trans RAF editing app that isn't LR/ACR) I'm quite a fan of the pre-RAW On1 Photo, it's a decent bit of finishing software, and it would be nice to have an all-in-one app that does it all (the holy grain no? ;D) I need to REALLY spend some time with On1 to have any sort of robust opinion, and I sometimes find it hard to separate "is this app any good" Vs "do I actually like using this app" as it can easily go Yes / No when I try something new I'll say one thing for it though - it's a whole lot of power and features for comparatively little coin, and that's exceedingly commendable There's some really good example shots in your review, shots that focus your readers on what to actually look for when appraising how adroit image rendering should be. Great work.
  2. For this week's entry, I'm taking a trip down memory lane! And that lane, is a straight line road that has 17 years worth of Fujifilm cameras as roadside furniture!! So buckle up, mirror(less) signal and manoeuvre and let's take a journey!! (I promise to stop now with the driving similes) http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-seventy-one/
  3. The Light at the End of the Tunnel by Adam Bonn, on Flickr I saw this tunnel (well I knew it was there) and thought.... I wonder how long to wait for someone to walk up or down it.... 30secs A new record, normally it takes ages and ages
  4. This week's story is a curated selection of images shot with the X-Pro1, X-Pro2 and X-T1. "By the Sea" is a study of the world between aqua and terra firma, and how people reside there. I also share a few tips on working in a harsh environment and getting the best out of high dynamic range images I hope you enjoy the read... http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-seventy/
  5. The Pride of Life by Adam Bonn, on Flickr X-Pro2 and XF23/F1.4 She seemed so flattered to be photographed!
  6. More souls from the streets of Porto! A catch up on my Street Portraits project. http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-sixty-nine/
  7. Back to some good ol' GAS for this week's instalment! Not camera GAS, oh no - lens GAS, wonderful, beautiful Glass GAS It was time to decide on a trinity http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-sixty-eight/
  8. If you're talking SOOC..? You could try one of the pro neg film sims, and as mdm suggests, play with the highlight/shadow tone values in the minus range, also maybe try the grain setting on weak, as this will defuse the higher res of the later sensor and make a slight texture You're not going to get exactly the same look as the first gen sensor, but you may very well get a look you like more than the base settings
  9. Maybe with some of the SOOC jpeg film sims, but not from raw, although with XP2 raw I sometimes turn contrast down a bit!
  10. Last week I looked at colour and black & white, But I know in my heart I'm more of a colour shooter.... but why is this? And if we understand why we like things, can build on those things? Enjoy the read folks! http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-sixty-seven/
  11. On the X-Pro2 at least, when reviewing an image, press the up arrow to get a info view with the histogram and blinking highlights, once this view mode is set, you can retain this mode whilst scrolling through the images As noted above, the DR expansion modes work by under exposing the raw file. Then for SOOC jpegs, the low and mid tones are boosted (a bit like dragging the shadow slider in LR etc) The RAW file remains under exposed. Whether this matters or not, depends on how much of the shot is highlights and how your raw software of choice handles the DR info in the meta data. ISO 200 has more native DR than ISO 400 or 800, so PERSONALLY I leave DR on DR100 mode. But what ever works for you
  12. Iirc I think that these are computer simulated images, so they're what Fuji expect us to see I own both 35s, I'm sure I'll get round to reviewing them at some point and a comparison will be part of that review Don't ask me when though! Looking at the images from Fuji I posted above, it does seem that one of the 35s isn't really 35mm
  13. On the more recent cameras (XT1 and newer iirc) The EV dial can be used to control ISO if auto ISO is enabled, but if the camera is in full manual mode, then there's nothing that the dial can do
  14. Have fun! http://fujifilmxmount.com/comparison/en/test-our-lenses/ Both the 35s at F2
  15. As Nero explained already They're not clear glass, they have coatings and also aspherical shapes to rended the image. They also magnify and reduce the image depending on the FL What exactly are you expecting to see when you see examples? That every lens ever made that shares a common FL also shares exactly the same image rendition?
  16. Shooting with a Fujifilm gives us so many colour and black and white/monochrome choices. Some like colour, some like black and white, some like both. What's your preference and do you ever leave that comfort zone? Hope you enjoy the read! http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-sixty-six/
  17. Ha! Thanks Mike, I never thought it would go for this long!
  18. At some point in today's article the total word count went over 85,000 (kudos if you've read it all) So I really need to ask myself... What is it about the X-Pro range that I've become so enamoured with? http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-sixty-five/
  19. I could easily be wrong.... but I thought that rolling shutter was always possible in a non global shutter application? I'm not knocking the a9, but the basic headline is speed, no? Now speed is great, if you need speed. And for sure many do, and many don't but want it anyway, I get that But the other specs, as great as they are, aren't so 'tomorrow's camera today' The EVF spec? Iirc matches the Leica SL Double card slot? Done by others already Weather sealing? Again not new... and DPR have already said they don't think it LOOKS as well sealed as top line canikons 24mp FF sensor, that's pretty much a standard, yes it's double overhead manifold sprocket stacked (or whatever ) but I think that's what makes the speed and the zero evf black out, it doesn't mean the IQ will be heaps better than other 24mp FF sensors So yes, it's a clearly a great bit of kit, ticking a lot of boxes for the professional sports togs and animal watchers (who'll lose a lot of lens choices if they migrate from canikon) but they'll love it RE the zero black out. It'll appeal to the well healed tech savy enthusiasts too (to be fair in the UK it's £1100 cheaper than an M10 which has like 1/10th of the features and that's on back order) So Sony will sell them. But that doesn't make our Fuji cameras any worse (or better) than they were yesterday which is also true tomorrow! If this new sensor tech does trickle down to APSC and too Fuji, then I'm sure many of us will be pleased, so there's nothing bad about it. But see it for what it is IMHO - a speed demon, but otherwise about as well equiped (give or take) as many other top of the range cameras Re Huff... there's camera brands he likes, there's camera brands that invite him to pre launch events and those that don't, on the one hand he can only review what he has access too, but on the other.... well let's just say gastronomic hyperbole often follows after a free lunch
  20. This week it's time for a tale, a tale of a pilgrim and a brief intersection with another's adventure, and why being out and about on your own photographical journey can lead to some interesting conversations! Enjoy! http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-sixty-four/
  21. For this week's instalment, I'm sharing how I've been getting on with my street portraits project! The X-Pro2 and street work are continuing to work like hand and glove, but you can't control who says yes or no to the request for a shot... ...so how am I getting on? http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-sixty-three/
  22. This week it's time for a showcase post I've wanted to write for a while! Let's take a look at the XF60mm F2.4 Enjoy! http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-sixty-two/
