Yes in my OPINION you'll notice a tangible difference with those lenses, I've owned the same 35 f1.4 across 4 X bodies (xe1, xp1 xt1 & xp2) and it definitely performs better on the newer bodies The difference between the xt1 & the xp2 isn't so much, but between the first generation bodies it's there There is a massive caveat though Firstly, the difference between a fast AF lens and a not so fast one is fractions of a second, sure as a percentage it's a lot, but irl not so much Secondly, many factors affect AF... subject, what's in the background, light etc To simply state something like 'buy the latest Fuji and you'll never struggle with AF ever again' would just be plain wrong

My X-Pro2 Review.
adzman808 replied to adzman808's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
After the 'far more work than I expected' series about RFC, it's back to actually talking about photography with the X-Pro2 for this week's instalment The regular followers out there will notice that I'm releasing this on Saturday night, not Sunday morning... ...This means two things: 1) Yes I clearly have no life and 2) I'm on location all day tomorrow! So for this week, I recall the first time I trusted the X-Pro2 out in the field... How did I find it? http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-forty-one/ -

No problem, Yes FW2 improves battery life by giving you more options for 'auto power down' and it now features an auto power save feature too. The AF is better on the XP2 and you should notice the difference... The reason I'm being a little wooly about that is because AF is dependant on many variables, not least of which is user expectation At the end of the day.. the difference between a slow af lens and a fast one, in ideal conditions is nano seconds... 0.10 vs 0.05 of a second (made up figures!!) is a big percentage, but a tiny amout of time in real life, and 0.05 is still enough time to miss *the* shot I mainly use my XP2 (and XP1 before it) in manual focus mode, but when I do use AF I'm generally not disappointed. But this doesn't mean you wont be! AF is very setting and subject dependant... if you use face recognition then you're not using PDAF for example... An anaolgy I can think of that AF is a LITTLE bit like using a 'edge detect' brush in LR or On1 etc... if you want to mask off a dark building against an empty sky, then it works great, try it on someone's dark hair, billowing in the breeze who's standing in front of a dark background and suddenly the edge detect brush is rubbish Also AF depends on using the right sized focus box, correctly positioned for the framing, hopefully using the PDAF points It's one of the main reasons I use MF, it might not be faster, but it's simpler (YMMV) and compared the XP1 the coloured focusing peaking on the XP2 REALLY glows Yes it's true that not fully releasing the shutter button keeps the camera from instigating another AF run, but this isn't a FW2 thing, the XP2 has always done this! The shops are full of lightly used cameras because people are fickle and always want the next new thing... for example, my HUNCH would be that the upcoming OMD m4/3 camera will see the shops full of lightly used XT2s as people become desperate to have a few more FPS and quicker AF than the XT2 has -

Rico, https://fuji-x-secrets.net/2016/10/26/fujifilm-x-pro2-using-firmware-2-00/ Me! http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-thirty-six/ The thing with FW2.00 is that it was MAINLY improvements of existing features, and the addition of compatibility with a flash that's not out yet. The AF speed increase is tangible, but as always with Fuji, light level and lens choice dependant The X-Pro2 does now meter between shots in (low) burst mode. The min focus box in the OVF does indeed vary with the lens attached and you can shoot a single frame in AF-C burst mode. (To list some of the improvements) These are 'yes it does that now' type improvements rather than things that need deep investigation (IMO) It's not like when the XT1 got a whole new focus system and the XE2 got the XT2 features I've been getting an average of about 100 extra frames per battery since the firmware update, and that's an excellent improvement -

Pro1 viewfinder vs Pro2 viewfinder

I'd pretty much agree with this! The icons and EV scale are more legible in the XP1 OVF and some of the buttons are nicer too. But the EVF (& many other features) of the XP2 are MILES ahead of the XP1 -

I'm not sure this is a city scape... But equally it's daft to start a thread just for one shot!! I went out all day yesterday, to a new place, just to take shots I think the shot I took waiting for my train was the best one :-) A Journey Begins by Adam Bonn, on Flickr X-Pro2 and XF35 F1.4

The X-Pro1 - Still Perfectly Valid
adzman808 replied to adzman808's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
No, not exactly The EV dial is basically a manual override for something the camera is controlling. So for example in AE mode, it'll change the shutter. I just tried with my XP2 In auto ISO, auto aperture but manual shutter mode, the EV dial changed the iso (which surprised me actually, I was expecting aperture) In manual ISO manual SS, auto aperture mode, the EV dial changed the aperture. I'm not sure if on the XP1 the EV dial can change the aperture (in shutter priority mode) but I'm pretty sure, that the XP1 can't change the ISO with the EV dial (iirc this was a feature that first came in on the XT1 but I might be mistaken) -
35mm f2.0 or f1.4 - never mind the noise or speed!
adzman808 replied to petergabriel's topic in Fuji X Lenses
Not mentioning the extra stop But the 1.4 with it's 52mm filter size and front element that has nearly the same diameter is a far better low-light gatherer than the 43mm front filter sized F2 People love to mention the extra aperture blades of the F2 (and it's a very true and valid comment) But no one ever seems to say "screw the 56, it has only 7 aperture blades, I'll take the 60 because it has 9 blades" :D The build quality of the f2 is a lot nicer than the f1.4 - especially the 'clickiness' of the aperture ring The focus f2 ring is nicer, but it's a lot smaller than the F1.4 The focus speed (sorry I know, I know) is better on the f2, but only nano seconds better in 'ISO200' light The focus accuracy of the F2 is the real score IMO At the edges of the frame, the f2 is LITTLE BIT like the XF18 The metal hood on the F1.4 is included in the price, it's pretty functional at blocking flare (it's quite deep and tapered) - but it rattles (put a strip of black tape on the inside of it, over the bayonet mount) The hood on the F2 is plastic and shallow The metal hood on the F2 is an expensive extra, and protrudes more into the OVF than the standard one, and is also shallow In the UK, the F2 price just went up £60 In the current Euro cash back deals, iirc - the F2 is not included in the offer The edges are softer (than the centre) on the f1.4 because Fuji designed it that way to produce a "look to your images" and that makes for a shot with 3d pop (IMHO - YMMV) The edges are softer (than the centre) on the F2 because it's a budget lens, built to a lower spec. This debate usually gets emotive... not very scientific, but here ya go !! These files are from RAW with zero lens profiles applied Guess which is the 1.4 lens -

I believe in the later cameras you can control ISO with the EV dial. Do you shoot full manual or SS priority? -

Today I begin a series about using the RFC (powered by SilkyPix) RAW convertor that is supplied with Fuji camera. I'm not about to big RFC up as the best tool out there (it's not!), but it gets a "bad press" and when a lot of people say that something is very bad, I (personally) always like to take a look for myself.. http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-thirty-seven/ -
The LCD shows you either the JPG or if you are shooting RAW only, then it shows you the JPG that's embedded in the .RAF file. Which is the same file that (for example) LR shows you during import. You can't really preview a RAW file, it needs demosaicing etc, so you get to see the embedded JPG instead... I think pretty much every camera works like this
