  1. Because the raw converter reads the meta data that Fuji embedded into the RAW RAW is only 'raw' data until you open it with something, then that data becomes that something's interpretation of that data Open the same RAF in LR, C1, RFC, ID, SP, RT, PN (any others lol?) make zero edits and export to jpeg, they will all look different (I'm going to be writing about this quite in depth on my site quite soon)
  2. Back! Caught you looking for the same thing! So rapped Public Enemy on "don't believe the hype" I can't for one moment believe that Chuck and Flav had me buying yet another X-Pro1 in mind when they wrote that, but it fits So after last week's article, about re-visiting the X-Pro1's images (actually written about 5 weeks ago), I just couldn't say no when the opportunity came up to own an X-Pro1 for the third time! So let's get re-acquainted http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-seventy-eight/
  3. In a few places on the internet there's been a conversation running about the so-called more pleasing look to the X-Pro1 files. We even have some threads on here which are on that very subject So I wanted to revisit some of my X-Pro1 shots and see just how they looked after a year of not owning and shooting the camera. So what did I think? http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-seventy-seven/
  4. Fujifilm lent me the XF56APD (it was supposed to be the 50/F2 WR) So, seeing as I own the regular 56R - I got to take a closer look at the two fifty-sixes and the images they make So, here's the third and final part of this series: http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-seventy-six/
  5. The AF motors in the newer lenses are faster, and they're moving less glass too I just tested my camera in single AF mode X-Pro2 / xf56 APD I set F16 The camera closed the aperture to f16 (nb my camera is not set up to auto adjust evf brightness) I half pressed the shutter whilst looking down the lens The camera opens the aperture whilst doing an AF run, the closes it once focus is acquired The APD is a good test for this as it's slow and you get a lot of time to see what's happening
  6. If you use AF the fuji cameras perform AF at the wide open aperture (they stop down when you half press the shutter unless you're using the preview DOF function) This is why the 1.4 has faster AF in low light, it's got a stop more light gathering AF ability (even if stopped down on the aperture ring) IQ is subjective. Sharpness is not equal across the image between the lenses, ie where in the F2 is sharper in the centre at F2 it's weaker in the extreme corners. The Fuji vs Fuji review stated that by F5.6 the 1.4 was sharper everywhere So the strengths and minuses of each lens is well known. Unlike the two 23s or the 50/56 there's not a colossal cost or size saving to pick to one over the other I own both. I personally prefer the 1.4, I might flip the f2 as I never use it
  7. As I explained last week - due to a mix up - Fujifilm lent me the XF56APD (it was supposed to be the 50/F2 WR) So now I can take a closer look at the two fifty-sixes and the images they make So, here's part two: http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-seventy-five/
  8. my 'worst offending' lens is my 35F2 WR, which is also my most modern It's clearly a bug! We wait for the FW... it doesn't appear that Fuji are rushing to do a FW just to fix this... (it is what it is) The begin with the XP2 wouldn't return to automatically switching OVF magnifications, if you'd manually overridden them, that was a bigger bug IMO (YMMV) and that didn't get it's own special FW update Some days I miss the X-Pro1 a little....
  9. Due to a mix up - Fujifilm lent me the XF56APD (it was supposed to be the 50/F2 WR) I'd tested and loved this lens before - but ended up getting the XF56R Last time I wasn't able to compare the two Fifty Sixes, but now (for a limited time) I have both of them! So, let the three part comparison begin - Addendum: The XF56 APD Vs The XF56R Part One http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-seventy-four/
  10. For this week's instalment of my X-Pro series, I'm sharing the progress that I've made with my Street Portraits project, and showing some images taken with my new trinity of the XF23/35 (1.4) and XF56 Enjoy! http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-seventy-three/
  11. Joined at the Hip by Adam Bonn, on Flickr Another shot already! Sorry! Out and about with the APD and x-pro2 yesterday
  12. Flying High by Adam Bonn, on Flickr Flying high! He made the jump, and the landing - and wasn't wearing safety gear! X-Pro2 / XF56
  13. X-Pro2 on the left This is from RAW +1/3 of a stop exposure and minus one notch in SilkyPix's contrast slider and the difference between them isn't so much. Don't ask me how to replicate the SOOC Jpegs though! That said I suspect that Pugsley47's suggestions RE the shadow/highlights won't be far off the mark
  14. Porto Low Rise by Adam Bonn, on Flickr A very famous view of Porto that if you've been here, then you've seen it! X-Pro2 and XF35/1.4 @5.6
  15. Just got this email: ===================== From: Fujifilm <xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxx@fujifilm.xxxxxx.com> Date: 19 June 2017 at 09:48:47 WEST To: Mr Bonn <adam.bonn@xxxxx> Subject: Your query regarding Fujifilm Ask Fujifilm Dear Mr Bonn, Thank you for contacting Fujifilm UK. Fujifilm in Japan are working on a firmware upgrade to fix this phenomenon. It will be announced as soon as it is available. We apologise for this inconvenience. Kind regards The Fujifilm X World Team ======================= I can't imagine it's worth asking WHEN as Fuji UK are unlikely to know and let's be honest the recent historical FW releases have been announced as "coming late May" so I doubt we'll get a cast iron date Still on the plus side, it sounds like Fuji are acknowledging there's an issue and are working to rectify it So PERSONALLY I'm not that unhappy, had this email said something like 'we can't replicate the problem, have you tried a system reset, beyond that we don't have any suggestions' then I'd have been pretty far from happy So now we wait for the next FW.
  16. Three weeks back, I shared my decision to go with the XF23F1.4 and XF56 (to accompany my XF34F1.4) as my personal trinity. So how's that working out for me? Well it's early days, but lets take a look at some shots from the new guys as well as my beloved 35F1.4 Enjoy! http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-seventy-two/
  17. Contrast is the relationship between light and dark. In image editing when we move the contrast slider up, lights get brighter and darks get blacker Re the X-Pro1: With a sooc jpeg curve that offered a lot of shadow details and less dynamic range than the newer camera, I think contrast is very much the easiest way to describe the difference between X-Trans I and III Different tone curve basically!
  18. Fujifilm UK told me that we're looking into this.... no mention of anything else
  19. If we review the content of this thread we see that different examples of the same lenses (and camera!) are behaving differently to each other and some say they're not having the issue at all This makes it harder for Fuji to fix I guess... Has anyone tried a system reset? I would try but SO many settings to put back in place again!
  20. Well I can't speak for everyone, but for me BBF is just a way to get the focus somewhere close to where i want without turning the focusing ring a great number of times I would then turn the focus ring a bit if needed to nail focus to where I want after a BBF run In manual focus mode, the back button focus (for 100% clarity that's what I mean by BBF) can be set to either perform a continuous AF run or a single run (I have single) There's not really a 'lock' in this mode The camera only performs a AF run and lock if pressing the BBF button in AF mode.
  21. Fujifilm are lending me the 23 and 50 F2 WR lenses "next week"* so just MAYBE I can test this (I already have the two 35s and the 56 and 23/1.4 - bit unfair comparing the 50 to the 56 though, different FLs) *next week can be a little vague when it comes to Fuji, I'm hardly their biggest priority as far as togs go! I'm NOT COMPLAINING though
  22. I'm 90% sure mine takes repeated half presses of the shutter button to move focus, so if I BBF and shoot it's ok, if I BBF, go to shoot then change my mind, then after that go to shoot again the focus moves a smidgen
  23. My 35 f1.4 does it, so it's the older lenses as well It's odd that my 56 doesn't seem to do it... I think the 23/1.4 MIGHT not do it because of the focus clutch... be interesting to hear from someone with the 14 and 16 on that
  24. I've been testing this today with my XP2 I have the issue on my camera I don't have the issue with the 56 or the 23/1.4 I have it with my two 35s, and the F2 advances the focus point faster and possibly a greater distance with each half press of the shutter than the 1.4 I also tested if it's actually moving focus or just moving the focus indicator bar, and the answer is Focus is actually changing I've dropped Fuji a line (FWIW)
