  1. It's been 6 months since I got my X-Pro2... I didn't just rush out and get it, I thought long and hard about what it offered that I wanted and actually needed over the X-Pro1. Now that the dust has settled, and the honeymoon finished... Am I still happy? http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-fifty/
  2. This week I'm turning my hand to street portraiture. But can this project deliver more than photographs? Also I'm forced to wonder if the X-Pro range is the perfect tool for the job, but why might I think that? I hope you enjoy the read.. http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-forty-nine/
  3. Happy New Year Folks: Everyone seems to be doing an end of year review on their sites, so I thought that... I'd be absolutely no different at all!!! So here's mine. http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-forty-eight/
  4. The OVF itself is by nature ambient light. The icons etc on the XP2 are smaller and harder to see in daylight, (compared to the XP1) also the brightness of the OVF icons etc can't be increased by the user (unless a non native lens is used) In darker scenes the XP2 OVF icons are perfectly legible
  5. You could try checking that the white balance is correctly set, (try auto with the tint set in the middle of the matrix graphic) or perhaps try a different lens but failing that it seems like a fault that will need a warranty repair
  6. For this week's instalment and seeing what day it is... Well let's take a look at feeling the magic! To whom it applies... Merry Christmas http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-forty-seven/
  7. What specific bugs did your X-Pro2 have exactly? And well yeah... auto ISO, Aperture priority so the EV dial and aperture ring are about all I need to change regaularly
  8. My X-Pro1 worked fine and I had no operational issues with it. So far (6 months) my X-Pro2 has been the same. I upgraded because of the improvement to MF aids (I don't really use AF), the greater working ISO range and the improved OVF/ERF Things that have come in handy, that I wasn't overly bothered about before purchase, are the ES (slient & fast), vastly improved shutter lag and dual SD cards Features I have no use for (face detection for example) I haven't used (except to confirm they worked) The OP asked if the XP2 was a better bet, as less people seemed to be unhappy with it. I think... it's a poor comparison! Not only is the XP2 v the XP1 are far bigger jump (meaning that upgraders have more to be wowed about) but also the XP2 is quite a niche camera, if one is considering XT2, then one could easily be considering the Sony or Oly options as they all broadly share the same features and form factor That combined with the more incremental nature of the XT2 vs the XT1 means that users have more alternative brand comparisons to make and less 'new things' to get excited about. By contrast, the XP2 is the highest spec OVF mirrorless camera available anywhere, and its only real comparison is Leica, which is actually a completely different product, feature set and price point. I suspect this make XP2 owners very happy with their choice, rather than the XP2 is a vastly superior product to the XT2. In short.. the XP2 appeals to a fairly narrow demographic of togs and meets their expectations well, the XT2 is a far more mainstream product that faces stiff competition from other brands, which can make people question whether they have the right camera
  9. After the 4 part XF56 APD review, it's time to get back to the reality of what I actually do own and can afford With many people (but not all of course) about to enter into the ritual of gift giving, I take a look at what to get your loved one.. especially if you're on a budget http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-forty-six/
  10. The (well known and well publicised) workaround that I mentioned (but didn't invent!!) is exactly what you say, a way of getting the internal FW to use a different NR algorithm Always remember though... RAW offers a LOT more options, but raw SW is still reading the meta data (think "recipe book") that the camera inbeds into the raw file, so various raw sw interprets high iso RAFs differently. For example on my xt1 with C1 and a 6400 shot raf... c1 would default to adding grain as part of its default NR setting, but it didn't do this with base ISO shots So raw does give one th freedom to work how one wishes, but with the caveat that one needs to understand ones raw convertor and how its reading fuji meta data
  11. Thanks Yes I know what isoless means and its a term I don't personally like... (hence why I used "" around the word) PERSONALLY I feel that the term should be pre or post ADC push I haven't got around to testing the claims of the dual gain tech on the XP2.. DPR claim the XP2 (and other cameras sharing the sensor) is ISOless, and Thom Hogan says it's dual gain tech. The semantics come into play when we talk about having two base ISOs (aka your point about 800 pushed 1 stop vs 200 pushed 3), so if we say (or more accurately as you said) that a sensor with 2 base ISOs cannot be ISOless what you actually mean is that pushing files will not be consistent if you cross the 2nd ISO threshold However leaving semantics aside, what we find is that """ISOless""" actually means zero pre ADC brightening, and in this respect the sensor found in the latest Fujis (allegedly) qualifies See why I dislike the term?
  12. Thank you! If there's ever a 33mm F1.0 APD - then my kid's for sale
  13. Think of it as developing a digital negative. And the keyboard shortcut for doing that, crtl+s is pretty generic
  14. SP (RFC one and V7) can render to both .Tiff and Jpeg For a single rendering Click this icon (or ctrl-s in windows) To reserve images for batch development (for example as you review and edit them) Click this button (for each image) Once you have selected the images (which you can also do from the thumbnail view) Click this button and all the images that have a little tick on them will be "developed"
  15. Thank you Eric
  16. OK, Sunday morning... And it's time for the concluding part of my XF56 APD review! For the final part I share some of my personal favourite shots from my time with the APD - which are on Flickr for those of you who have requested that, and I try my best to sum up the AF experience (in a pretty subjective way to be fair) I hope you've found at least a modicum of enjoyment from my review of a lens that's a little off the centre stage! But even if not - I enjoyed shooting with it, and I enjoyed writing about it! http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-forty-five/
  17. I've owned all 3 generations of X-Trans sensors. There was a work a round for the 'waxy skin' skin on X-Trans II Remember? Shoot ISO 1600 raw with -2 stops EV, then use the in camera raw convertor to push the file 2 stops to get a SOOC jpeg But why or how did this work? (ie why was this suggested as a solution, NOT did you think it fixed it) Well X-Trans II (& I) is only "ISOless" to ISO 1600 then digital push afterwards, it was the camera's internal push of the post ADC data that made the image X-Trans III is (apparently) 100% "ISOless" (with dual gain tech according to many, namely two base ISOs 200 and 800) So different things are going on 'under the hood' with X-Trans III I'm NOT saying that the XP/XT2 has no high ISO smoothing issues, but it's worth noting the sensor in these cameras is very different to the previous generations.
  18. That's next week, or just go to my flickr now
  19. Continuing the XF56 APD review: This week we take a closer look at some images shot in a few different locations and see if we can see any APDness to the shots! http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-forty-four/
  20. Continuing my l-o-n-g review of the XF56 APD! This week I start to get to grips with the lens and share some of those embarrassing test shots that we all... oh right, it's only me that does that then!! http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-forty-three/
  21. 1. Well... that's the official line, maybe it's lame or BS, but it's what they're telling us 2. XT2 is smaller in some dimensions, but larger in others (like height).. it also weighs a little more, despite basically running a smaller footprint, perhaps there's some heatsinking in there... 3. As does the X100t (so personally I too feel the XP2 should of offered this) Peter, just an observation... no daming or finger pointing on my part. But you seem to to have several 'should I or shouldn't I buy one' threads about the X-Pro2 going on, and your hesitance and anti-reticence on the subject is 100% understandable But the answer can only come from you. IMHO the XP2 is all about the hybrid VF... If that's not a big enough USP or not enough of an upgrade over the original for you then frankly the XP2 is quite likely not enough of an upgrade period... either pick one of the many other EVF MILC cameras out there or cross your fingers for a XE3 type body, if fuji/24mp/corner mounted VF is important to you. It would be a big shame if a bunch of people off the internet convinced you to get a camera you didn't really like
  22. Nope! Although homebrew solutions are starting to surface
  23. The next 4 instalments will be about the XF56APD Seeing as this isn't a X-Pro2 specific product, I've started a new thread in the XF lens section, which you can reach on the link below http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/topic/4377-my-xf56-apd-review-part1/
  24. I'll start a new thread for this one, as this lens is not just for one Fuji camera, so although (on my site) I've included it as part of my X-Pro2 review, it can of course, be used on all of the X mount cameras! I've long lusted after the XF56 APD The trouble's always been affording one !! So when Fujifilm offered to lend me one for 10 days - I first jumped for joy, then leapt at the opportunity So I've written up a review that's split into 4 parts, with this first one live today! I hope you enjoy... http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-forty-two/
