  1. Actually your pet theory can SOMETIMES apply to raw, it depends on what PP SW you use. Some SW is adaptive and applies a selective NR (and sharpening) setting as per the meta data of the raw image, namely that the default isn't the same for every image!
  2. So what's your theory, That all X-trans generation files look exactly the same? Let's all hear your take on it
  3. My PERSONAL WILD SPECULATION, MY HUNCH, MY IDEA, MY NON-QUANTIFIABLE thoughts about why I PERSONALLY prefer X-Trans I & III over II (I'm only talking about RAW, everybody knows the X-Trans I jpegs are waaaay different than the later cameras) I = 12 bit raw, less data, SEEMS to produce quite a organic roll off between light and dark III = lots more pixels crammed into the same size sensor, produces a grainy noise pattern and texture that's pleasing, especially considering the pictures are 30% (or whatever) bigger II = a 16mp sensor upgraded to record 14bit and tuned to extract every last drop of digital goodness, resulting in clean images That's NOT to say that X-Trans II takes a bad shot, or is a bad sensor or that you shouldn't like it. But it is too say I PERSONALLY prefer I and III Anecdotal: People complained that Leica m9 had crap ISO, so Leica made the CMOS 240, and Leica folk started a petition asking them to go back to CCD Better isn't always better it seems X-Pro2 ISO2500 (iirc) no grain applied, from raw - not my finest work
  4. Methinks that possibly you skim read.
  5. OK, Part Two of the 100% X-Pro2 review is now up! Part one is here http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-thirty/ Where I talk about why I chose the X-Pro2, and what benefits it has (to me) over the original This week, in part two, I take a look at the image quality of the newer camera, and why that IQ needs to be stand alone, and not just judged against the predecessor! As per the X-Pro1 series, I'll be sharing tips, tricks and info (and opinion) on a weekly basis! Enjoy! http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-thirty-one/
  6. Thanks for taking the time to post that Drew, I really felt that the inaugural X ILC camera was worthy of some in-depth descriptive love, and the response I've had from the community has been very positive!
  7. All the X-Pro stuff is linked from the page I shared this morning! The article I'm referring too went live on Sunday, so not sure if you consider that to be new or not... It's here http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp2-thirty/
  8. The story so far... Here's all my X-Pro series content, referenced and in one place! http://adambonn.com/the-x-pro-series/ They'll be 2 parts of the X-Pro2 story that I'll link too this Sunday... Part one is up already if anyone fancies a look!
  9. I haven't updated this thread for a while... Seeing as I have a X-Pro2 (and a X-Pro2 thread here!) But... Here's all my X-Pro series content, referenced and in one place! http://adambonn.com/the-x-pro-series/
  10. Thanks very much, I'll keep you all updated!
  11. depends what you want.. the F2 has faster quieter AF, is WR, and has less vignetting but with barrel distortion the 1.4 has no barrel distortion, a stop more light and more vignetting wide open the 1.4 could be more sharp in corners... BUT this can make for a nicer image and pleasant rendering, which IMO is why people go a bit passionate about the 1.4 full disclosure... I'm passionate about the 1.4
  12. Try using it without auto DR turned on, as this can introduce noise and reduce contrast, especially if the camera selects DR400 mode
  13. OK, here's today's instalment of my X-Pro1 review... Part 29 (!) We wrap up the view finding comparison and in fact the overall comparison between the X-Pro1 and the X-Pro2. Enjoy! http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-twenty-nine/
  14. Continuing the X-Pro1 review, we continue comparing it against the X-Pro2. This time we're looking at the view finder, and finding that the X-Pro2 doesn't stack up all that well... But why? http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-twenty-eight/
  15. The UK refurb shop gives you a 1yr oem warranty (the same as a new UK store bought item) Secondhand doesn't, so secondhand equipment needs to reflect this... FWIW I've always used a ebay search of sold listings to determine what something secondhand is worth
  16. Part 27 of this 'little ditty' (!) sees the continuation of the comparison between the X-Pro1 and the X-Pro2. This week we're looking at the front of the two bodies and comparing battery life! http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-twenty-seven/
  17. FWIW, I've become quite the SP7 Pro fan... There's a bit of a learning curve, and I can see why people don't like it... For colour work I think it's great, not only does it have reasonable approximations of the Fuji film sims, but the inbuilt colour profiles can be useful too Overall though... I think it's actually starting to harmonise between the various products! It wasn't so long ago that many were complaining about ALL the raw converters... Now we may have our personal favourites... But people are happily using LR/SP7/ID/PN/C1* for rafs and getting results that they're happy with I think that's great personally *maybe not so much happiness from X-Pro2 owners (no compressed raw support or ability to read raf meta data RE lens corrections, unless this has changed very recently)
  18. Thank you very much, I recommend my manual focusing settings but YMMV
  19. I think you need to set windows to show hidden system files or you are actually typing [your username] in place of the name you use to log into your computer
  20. If the camera switches between OVF/EVF on the lever and if if it remembers your previous choice when being switched on then it's fine
  21. Sunday morning.. So that must mean it's time for another instalment of my X-Pro1 story. This week we continue looking at the haptics of the X-Pro2 Vs the X-Pro1 http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-twenty-six/ Newer = better? Maybe.. Just maybe...
  22. Old enough to know better? Old Enough to Know Better by Adam Bonn, on Flickr
  23. Defects can take many forms... Some more subtle than others... However without a doubt your lens is defective! Soon someone will arrive to tell you to clean the contacts, but I've seen your post on a different forum, and I know you've tried that
  24. Apologies is this has been mentioned already... Other than by ggsa above... OVF Magnification (ie the magnification it uses for the 18mm Vs say the 60) If you manually force it to use the magnification that it wouldn't normally use with a given lens Then it will no longer automatically select the correct magnification from then on... or at least my example does that! The fix: (a workaround really) With the camera off, mount a lens, but DON'T 100% rotate it into the bayonet. (ie stop just before the click) Turn the camera on Camera should display a "F0" lens mount error (which is correct - the lens is not properly mounted) With the camera still turned on - rotate the lens into the correctly mounted position. (so that it clicks) After this OVF automatic magnification works and (so far) continues to work! You could of course just do a complete lens swap with the camera turned on - but don't 'cos that's a great way to attract dirt onto your sensor I SUSPECT a complete reset would also resolve it... but I didn't try, I've just about got it set up as I want it, I don't want to start over!
