Hi everyone, The next part of my X-Pro1 story is now live! http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-nine/ This week, I continue my look at accessories for the X-Pro1. This time it's the accessories not made by Fujifilm. Enjoy! -
X-Pro2 Power Management influence on AF
adzman808 replied to tdGunter's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
The amount of shots per battery charge is dependent on so many parameters that it's IMO barely worth speculating about! Extreme examples? Put a fresh batter in your camera, set it to CH, press and hold the shutter until the battery dies... How many shots did you get? 2000 maybe! Now put a fresh battery in your camera, take a shot. Use the internal raw convertor to make a jpeg copy in every single film sim, with every combination of shad/tone sharp/nr setting. Then go through your menus and toggle every single item off and on Oh your battery just died, and you only took one shot... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I KNOW I AM BEING A BIT SILLY But real world derivatives of the above 2 examples determine your shots per charge more than any other factor...- 6 replies

A proper white balance card is grey, (but a different grey to a exposure card.) It's just called a white balance card, because it sets white balance, it's not actually white! Whibal is not a lazy abbreviation, it's a product name, of a product that is industry certified to be the correct shade of grey for setting a custom white balance IMO, if one goes to the trouble of setting a custom WB, then one really ought to use a product that is certified to do the job....

Sunday rolls round once more, and while you're POSSIBLY accessorising with chocolate, I take a look at accessories in my part 8 of my X-Pro1 story! http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-eight/ Are accessories must haves, or merely pimping the ride? Enjoy! -
In short, yes! The camera would revert to "original" WB if reset too AWB. Custom WB is not a set and forget feature. The correct WB value varies depending on the light, eg to get the correct looking shade of red it's a different WB setting (for EXACTLY the same shade of red) depending on the light, for example in sunlight the colour temperature would be somewhere around 5000K, but under artificial light (ie not the sun) the correct WB temp might be only 3200K AWB works by analysing the scene, and deciding what colour temp should be applied. Generally AWB works very well, although it can get confused in scenes with different types of light sources. Personally, when I want the most accurate WB I can get, I use a WhiBal card. The time I most often find myself doing this, is if I'm using a ND filter. But I also use a custom set WB if I'm taking a lot of shots under a consistent light source, this way not only do all those shots have the same value, but also if that value is a bit off, then in post, I can fix it in one shot, then copy/paste the correct value to all the rest. Which is quick and easy.

There's so much more to a raw software tool than sharpness.. PhotoNinja for example is good with detail, but (well the version I tried a couple of years back anyway) doesn't have clone tools or layers and isn't even capable of automatically applying lens corrections based which XF you used. IMO this excellent detail recovery doesn't make up for a limited toolset. YMMV LR I just don't like using, I know many love it, but I don't like the interface at all. C1 gets my vote as the best combination of features and results. I will give Iridient a go when there's a windows version as I've read many great things and want to see for myself.

Unless you're shooting from a tripod in fixed light, then there's always scope for multi metering to make expsoure changes that have a impact on the overall brightness of the picture. It's a LITTLE like auto WB, 99% of the time it works great, but every now and then there's something in the scene that that camera rates as middle grey that actually screws up the colour Same with multi metering.. Maybe the sun was bit brighter for one shot (ie came out from behind a cloud) or perhaps the camera metered off reflected light from a wing mirror or the shiny wheels. Automation in cameras is generally very, very good these days, but ultimately it's 'only' an algorithm, it's not a human eye looking at a scene... As posted above... 7000 shots, 5 off exspoures, that's good odds of a correctly metered scene IMO! YMMV

It's Sunday! The first day of spring - the dawn of the 2016 MotoGP/F1 motosports championships. (don't tell me the result, I've been busy writing this!!) But of course, it's also time for my weekly X-Pro1 story update!! The X-Pro1: Sycophants Please Step Outside… Sycophants Please Step Outside Just because someone really likes something, doesn't actually make it good... But what ultimately is the most important USP? I would GUESS that the XP2 has a screw in cap like the T1 In case it helps anyone.... I lost the cap on my XP1. One from a Canon AE-1 (film slr) fits great

Thanks very much for the positive comments everyone! So here's part two for your perusal! The X-Pro1: The Mirrorless Camera of my Dreams? Can camera dreams come true? Enjoy! -
There's a difference, but to describe it is subjective... ...IMO the XT1 is perhaps a little cleaner, slightly better at iso6400, the Pro1 is maybe a little more grainy
-
I realise you're not asking me, and that I don't have access to a Pro2 But no, not without modification The original grip has a off centre mounting screw (to fit the XP1 off centre tripod mount) and features a centralised tripod mount. The Pro2 has a central tripod mount already, so if you screw the original grip into the hole, then (even if it fits) the whole grip will be off centred from the body. It MIGHT fit if you drill out the tripod mount on the original grip, and use that in conjucture with a tripod screw to mount it too the body

Is it in wide/tracking focus mode? (The third option of the 3 modes offered)

If anyone is interested... I'm writing about my lust/hate/love affair with the X-Pro1 on my blog! http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/ As well as this story, there's many shots taken with the X-Pro1 and some with the XT1. Please note that my blog features NO donate links, or buy prints links or buy from advertising partners links! It's simply a labour of love - a bit like using the X-Pro1 can be!! ........... Edited post for anyone not scrolling to the bottom!! The full story so far! Unless someone can tell me otherwise (and please do), I think that I've now created one of the (if not simply 'the') largest opinion* based X-Pro1 articles on the internet. (*there's facts and stuff in there too and of course many things are also true of the later X cameras!!) I remain as passionate and enthusiastic about the X-Pro1 as I always, I know it's neither the newest or best camera out there, but I sincerely believe it's a perfectly valid photography solution, offering a signature look to it files, and in usage, the body responds well to be treated like a film camera. So here's a overview: Part 1: http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/ When you fall for a camera, does it always work out how you think? "Boy meets camera, lives happily ever, right? WRONG! But how wrong? And can two wrongs make a right?" Part2: http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/finally/ When you dream that a camera will be everything you hoped, how will you react when it isn't? "This is the part where I moan, complain and moan some more about the laggy EVF, the woefully inaccurate OVF experience, the glacier slow AF" Part3: http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-three/ When you start to miss imperfection. "The second time around the X-Pro1 became so very, very much more than eye candy to me. I finally figured out how to use it, I fell in love with it holistically" Part4: http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-four/ When you (well I !!) start to realise it's the way that files look that's important " it was enough to draw me in - to forgive the camera its quirks and foibles and want to get the best from it." Part5: http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-five/ When you try to define just exactly what it is that you love about the look of an image " IN MY OPINION and TOO MY EYE the X-Pro1 has a signature to its images, a look that I love very much." Part6: http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-six/ When you understand how over come physical limitations, via self improvement "as you can see (and perhaps agree) by taking back control of focus from the shutter button, we still can utilize the benefits of AF" Part7: http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-seven/ When you understand that blind love of a camera is only a personal view point and that's important "when things get personal, then people tend to bring their A game, and a strong A game can accomplish anything" Part8: http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-eight/ When you start to look at what bits and bobs you can add on to your camera "they add to the camera, and they enrich the overall ownership experience" Part9: http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-nine/ When you realise that companies other than the OEM can offer valid items for your camera "I’m going to say that if you’re getting a genuine benefit" Part10: http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-ten/ When you have a good look at your camera's files and find your own path "Why would I want to truncate my potential output by dismissing any of the available options" The latest part. Well it's Sunday morning, so that must been it's time for another installment of my X-Pro1 article! http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-eleven/ This week I take a look at the DR modes and their relationship to ISO. But how do they work, and do I PERSONALLY feel they're worth using? Enjoy...

FUJI X-PRO2 MENU PROBLEM
adzman808 replied to Paul Crespel's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
What I mean is that on the XT1 there is a setting, EVF+eye sensor What this does is turn off the EVF (& the LCD) when no eye is at the VF I wondered if the X-Pro2 has this (for example the X-Pro1 does not, either the LCD or the VF has to be on all the time) -

Do we know if the XP2 has a VF+eye sensor setting like on the XT? -
FUJI X-PRO2 MENU PROBLEM
adzman808 replied to Paul Crespel's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
I love that on the XP1 in VF only mode, that when it's on OVF and you hit the menu or Q menu, it comes up on the LCD I also love that on the XP1 in OVF mode, if you have a Fn for ISO you can change it with the scroll wheel! I think I just love the XP1.... Lets see what the Pro2 is like... I took my XT1 out the other day, and tried to imagine it with a OVF and decided that it would still seem very digital compared with XP1 -
In real world usage, eg low light, how much faster is the AF than on the XT1? What's the build quality like compared to the XT1, specifically the tactile feedback of the dials, are they too easy to turn? The EV dial is always one that seems to be easy to knock out of position on the other Fuji bodies Does the power on/switch still have quite a lot of lateral play? Eg can you wiggle back and forth like you can on the Pro1 and XT1? How accurate is the OVF for focusing? If you only used it in OVF mode, then would you trust it to pick the correct subject, or are focusing issues connected to parallax still present? Thanks very much! I might think of more stuff to ask you
-
The electronic shutter, the faster AF and the focus tracking are give or take the only things that the newer cameras have, that the Pro does not, that may help you "get the shot" The rest: wifi, gps, more Fn buttons, articulated screen, customisable Q menu, +3 EV dial may or may not be things you'd like to have, but their omission won't necessarily get in the way of you taking photos
