I am surprised by your statement that this doesn’t happen on your F. Because I believe that is exactly how my F behaves. I will try later today.
As a workaround, you could always dedicate one custom setting to “everything on zero”.

Generally that is very true. However, with the X100-series it's a bit different. The adapter ring fits onto the lens by removing the front ring of the lens and replacing it with the adapter ring. This is a bayonet lock. The adapter ring then holds the filter and lens hood (through a bayonet). There are also lens hoods that screw-in. These can't be connected to the adapter ring but have to be on top of the filter instead. That's inconvenient because when you loosen them, you often also unscrew the filter.

I do not want the complications of video and flippy screens on a stills camera. They add weight, cost, and points of failure. Why people would buy a brand known for amazeballs in-camera color processing (only to throw all that gorgeous color data away!!?), ease of operation with real metal dials, and a focus on actual photography then demand they add features that are completely opposite to that brand’s vision seems silly. It’s like moving next to an existing airport and complaining it’s noisy. Or buying a sledge hammer to split wood and expecting it to be good for fine finish carpentry. You want video, buy a video camera.

I did this upgrade. I have an X-T2 for some adapted lenses (old Canon FD lens) that shoots in B&W and upgraded to the XPro3 for all the amazing simple camera glory and couldn’t be more pleased. I will shoot the XP3 into the ground, buy another and another and do it again.
I appreciate Fuji for being old-school Japanese and up until recently resisting the fluffy feature train so I hope they don’t go too far down that path. I would like them to continue to be old-school Japanese.

Third party options of adapter ring that screw onto the lens combined with a good UV- or protection filter work just as good. I believe JJC has a good one. Make sure the optional lens hood works with a bayonet. That's easier than a filter thread screw-in one.

I personally hate watching videos. I much prefer a well-structured text document, with illustrations / photos when needed.
(Don't like watching TV either ... give me a newspaper or a good book please).
So I don't really trust the opinions of any "Youtubers", since I don't watch them.

That is simply not true. It makes the camera more complicated and more expensive, and the camera usually ends up being a compromise. So there's more to break, more stuff to cool (so the camera is going to be heavier than needed for photography), and more to pay.
I wish Fujifilm would resist the market pressure of the Youtube generation, and focus on creating the most usable and best photo cameras possible.

I am afraid this was my understanding when the XH-1 came out.  The "H" stood for hybrid.  I know I read a couple of articles that mentioned this, but doubt I could find them now.  Actually I was quite pleased because this meant the XT line would continue to improve while the XH line would satisfy the needs of the videographers.
Now the XT-4 has come out as a camcorder I am VERY disappointed and disgruntled with Fuji.  I will not be purchasing any more Fuji products until they go back to photography rather then videography.  And I will never under any circumstances own any camera with one of those cheap useless flippy things hanging off the side.

You are still trolling, and no, I don't like the way Fujifilm are going.
I am going to keep using my current cameras until they break, and then I will consider my options.

Umm no ... I don't long for a worn down camera, and if it ends up that way anyway, I'd like it to be through my own use.
And I couldn't care less that my X-Pro1 shows white underneath the black paint instead of brass. If it annoys me, I can always cover it up with gaffer tape.

I think the 10-24 and the 55-200 would make a good travel kit if you want to take zoom lenses with you.

One thing the 18-135 has over the 55-200; it is a WR lens.

I feel the XC 50-230 II is the most underrated Fuji zoom lens and find it a perfect match for my X-T20.  It is a "daylight" lens though.

I am actually waiting until Fujifilm release a WR version of the X100 series. Besides, I would lose more money than I can handle if I sell my X100T now, and upgrade to the X100F.

My strategy will fail of course if Fujifilm never decides to release a WR X100 version
