If Fujifilm goes Full Frame - will any of their lenses be compatible?
kim replied to petergabriel's topic in Fuji X Lenses
Fuji have put so much into saying their cameras are so close to FF that you don't need a FF camera. MF would make sense in some small way. Wonder if a speed booster adaptor would ever be in the cards, XF to X-MF or something... Probably not. -
Switching from Sony full frame to Fuji Aps-c
kim replied to Joostven's topic in Newbie / Self Introduction
Fuji can clam the X-Trans-II 16Mpx 'resolves' ~24Mpx all they want, It's not as much detail as my 22Mpx 5D3. Still very sharp and great detail, more than enough really. Attached image from a set up on a shoot showing just how much detail there is in the 5D3 with a good lens attached [50mm Art]. I won't attempt that on my X-T1 Click here to view the image It's a super close up of a small part of the shot, do check out the detail, we are so spoilt as photographers these days. -
Newbie X-T1 owner, what do I need to take close macro shots?
kim replied to whc's topic in Fuji X-T1 / Fuji X-T10
Any macro you like with an adaptor so it can fit on your XF mount. Tubes come in a range of sizes so the working distance need not be as close if you don't want it to be [any tube that mounts will do no need to buy pricy ones - its just a tube]. A good macro is your best bet for sharp results. -
I found that my USH-II cards really hampered the performance of my X-E2 after FW4, swapped them back to the older USH [ one strip of contacts] and working fast again.

The lens judders about but it locks on and your shot is sharp, least that is my memory of how it goes.

I think it is a fine lens, great value second hand, small & light on the camera and plenty sharp with typical Fuji coluor and contrast. I love the metal hood and have left the cap in the box ages ago. Don't listen to the nay sayers about it's quality - it's good. Yes a bit fluffy near the corners but small and light and cheap = Super Value. 18/2 @ f/2 img

A covert bag for traveling in cities
kim replied to ajurjans's topic in Bags, Half Cases & Straps for Fuji X
Get good insurance and forget about the worries, just enjoy your trip. Keep your bag zipped/clipped and your camera in your hand and strapped/leashed. You'll be fine & if your gear goes missing report it and go have a beer, let the insurance worry about things. -
The 35/1.4 is a great, magical lens. Very sharp wide open although not fast to focus, not terribly slow but not quick. I also have the 16-55/2.8 but sometimes you need that f1.4. Nice small two lens kit is an 18/2 and 35/1.4 [or 35/2 even smaller]

16/35/90 Although I have the 18 & 23, not the 16mm or 14mm. I do have 16-55/2.8 but I find 16 close to 18. I have shot with the 14mm and I would not have got the shot without it. The 35 I really like something magical about that lens alright but for money considerations I'd choose a second hand 18/2 and 35/1.4 and get the 90 as my third with the money I'd save

I was shooting interiors for a client two days ago, used my 16-55 f2.8 and the 8mm Samyang Fisheye. You'd better be clear what the client wants out of the shots before you shoot as the 8mm is very wide and can be difficult to align up to minimise the curves. Fisheye Hemi is great for helping out in that. Other than that Fuji 14/2.8 is very good & the 10-24 is probably the best option out of all. You have a 16mm and it will probably be fine for most shots but you might find 14 or 10 is what you need.

Had my X-T1 in my coat pocket with the 35/1.4 on it at the opening gig of the Fun Lovin' Criminals world tour in Dublin last night took these from the middle/back of the venue. I know the guys from my music days so I was going to be shooting the gig but as the wife got me a birthday gift of two tickets thought I'd just go and enjoy but, well you know... 2HS00235 by Kim Farrelly, on Flickr The rest are here

One slight clearing up on importing raw and jpeg with lightroom, it will only import the raw, even though it tells you "+jpeg" unless you check the setting above. Lr is just telling you that there also was a jpeg alongside the raw in the card.

If you plan on shooting weddings, you can't F-up so, at the very least, you should have a second body that can use your lenses. You have the 2/18 and the 23 is close to that. If I where you I'd sell your 18-55 and your k3 and go buy a 1.4/35 or 2/35 and 1.2/56 and another body. Then you'll have wide tight and middling. If you are on a tight budget sure borrow second hand or borrow what you need from a friend/bank/whatever. Shooting a non repeatable event as a primary with out the necessary gear would be foolish for all involved. I have the 2/18 and the 1.4/23 no doubt the 23 is a better lens optically but the 18 is really overlooked and being that bit wider helps out on the documentary a bit.

wedding shoot, recommendation needed for focus settings
kim replied to shane's topic in General Discussion
The 16-55 F2.8 will lock focus quite a bit better than the 35mm f1.4, if you have the light it's a good choice for action. -
Wasn't expecting to shoot the sky at all but ended up staying in a castle in the middle of Wexford, Ireland during the week and it was a clear night. Happened to have my Roki 8mm in my small bag. I balanced the X-T1 on top of a wooden fence and propped it up using the lens cap. Kinda fun. Stars by Kim Farrelly, on Flickr

Can you not assign the settings you need to the different 'C' modes in the 'Q' menu? I know on the 5D3 I can set assign the total settings of the camera to the three 'C' modes, giving me three different set up's. Must grab my X-T1and give it a test.

Wow, that is really good and sharp, nice boh-kaa too. Zoomed into ~500% lots of detail.

I use the Samyang/Rokinon 8mm fisheye, it's really super wide and very sharp just get it at ~1m focus and shoot no need for AF there. Plus you can use fisheye-hemi to straighten the vertical lines out to remove the fisheye effect.

X-T1 FW 4.0 BETA: I have it and share my findings soon ;)
kim replied to Patrick FR's topic in Fuji X-T1 / Fuji X-T10
Low light AF is also better, locking quickly on at F2.8 ISO 6400 1/20 with the XF16-55 F2.8WR Still don't think it's any faster to lock on then before FW4 but it is much better in lower light. Perhaps someone who has two X-T1's can test this to satisfy those who need to know. Tracking is very fast and mostly accurate[ish] - might have been me not use to it yet - but I am comparing it to a 5D3 so probably a bit unfair. I'll test it out on some lycra louts tomorrow morning. I've found no bugs yet. -

kim replied to Patrick FR's topic in Fuji X-T1 / Fuji X-T10
Yep, [the 16-55 f2.8 wr]no real speed improvement, perhaps a little bit quicker, but the tracking is really good and the eye detection works very well. Looking forward to winding my kids up on sugar in an hour or so and see how the tracking handles things. I also shoot a 5D3 if Fuji can get their AF close to that, well....
