Well I know that some local shops are privy to a lot of things. PCH in Belgium for example had a working X-T10 on display about two weeks before official launch date. When I noticed it, the manager just had a smug smile about it. So I wouldn't be surprised if some shops would have more internal information hidden behind some NDAs.

Oh I do plan to do that, following the tracking, it should be there by the 12th of Jan. So just a week away before I learn some MF skills for portraits. If it works well, I will bring it to a wedding event where I would be the second photographer. Trying to branch out from my regular things.

You were pretty much the one who got me interested at looking at them in the first place. I wouldn't have thought to use old m42 lenses on modern camera :]

My favorite camera bag is...
darknj replied to erreflower's topic in Bags, Half Cases & Straps for Fuji X
After 2 weeks of testing it, I found my new daily drive messenger bag. Without too much surprise the Peak Design Everyday Messenger bag just does it for me. I can take my X-T1 with 27, 35, 60 and 18-135 lenses with any of them on the camera and still have the top half the bag mostly empty to put more stuff inside. The Field Pouch that goes with it is really nicely done too, if you don't fill it too much, it can cozily sits on the front zipper pocket. Also have a back zipper for laptop and another smaller pocket for up to 10" tablet. So far, my best daily bag [Edit after some super rainy days testing] Well, it works really well, I have been covered in rainy weather for the last week and nothing inside the bag got any kind of wetness due to the rain. I had to walk home the other day and with the 20 mins of walking beneath heavy rain, my gear is still pristine. This bag earned my trust as my daily drive bag. Small issues, if you fill it up there are opening on the sides, which can quite wide open and let some water in, but that aside, the bag is quite good for a messenger style. -
I would agree with you on DSLR, but with an X-T1 camera and nothing like those F2.8 lenses, the Gorillapod does an "Okay" job. Plus I like being able to put the camera at unusual places. It's not the greatest tripod ever but it's small, convenient and still practical to use for some quick and dirty shots. I had some fun with the pod last December with a long exposition shot in the city: 25 sec exposition with the Gorilapod on a bridge with X-T1 and 10-24 lens @24 and F16

Once you are able to workaround the slower AF speed, the lens becomes really nice to use, even on MF. Just mind the last 2-3 cm of close focus, the MF gets suddenly very very long to focus and AF speed also take a super dip in speed. I tend to prefer the bokeh of the 60mm than the 56mm. Also ordered recently an m42 Hellios 44-2 56mm F2.

HandeVision IBELUX 40mm f/0.85 Couldn't Resist at $799
darknj replied to T-Man's topic in Fuji X Lenses
Considering the rumored upward price cost of the X-Pro2, I can't say it's a bad decision :] -
My deepest apologies, it seems that I got confused about some articles about the bokeh, both lenses are equally sharp. I will go edit my first post.

I had the chance to test almost all the Fuji lenses lately, except the XC series and the 56mm ADP version, and among those, the 23mm seemed like the fastest to focus to me along the 18-55 @18mm, @55 it was a bit slower than expected. The pro F2.8 lenses were not slow per say, but they were consistent on the whole zoom length, which is nice to know. The slow ones where clearly the 60 and the 56 along the 35mm F1.4. The rest of the lenses were in a small dens pack in the middle of those mentioned without any meaningful real world differentiation. Tests were done outside with enough light to shoot at ISO 400 with 1/180 speed. Focus first at my feet then at the subject on infinity. Which was really troublesome to do with the XF 50-140 due to its minimum focus at 140mm.

[Edited out the APD and non APD version of 56mm lenses due to a confusion on my part.] Now about Lightroom, you need to turn down a lot of the noise reduction features, like Luminance down to 0 and even that way there are still some left overs here and there. Nothing really THAT bad. PhotoNinja does a much better job at converting the Fuji RAF files than Lightroom. Although there have been some progress made since LR 6.x version. Not perfect yet but we are slowly (very slowly) getting there. The 5.7 version was decent enough for most of my needs, it wasn't the sharpest but since I got used to LR ever since I started shooting I didn't wanted (read, too lazy) to change to another software editing tool or change my workflow from my Nikon days.

I don't think the weight of it can be a fault here. The 18-135 is my default lens on the X-T1 and I never have to worry about it. Now if we were speaking about that 50-140 lens, there could be some issues since that lens is a large bulk of glass and technology at twice the weight of the X-T1 body alone. I would be inclined toward a faulty lens that was missed on QC.

HandeVision IBELUX 40mm f/0.85 Couldn't Resist at $799

Sheesh... That sounds quite bad for a lens if most of the known shops are not willing to spend the time to even try to sell it... -
Buy X-T1 now or wait for the X-T2 next summer?
darknj replied to Argus42's topic in Fuji X-T1 / Fuji X-T10
Like both posters above, I will give you the same advice. If you have something else now that alleviate the waiting time, sure go ahead and wait for the X-T2. On the other hand, if you want something to start your photography, both the X-T1 and X-T10 are very nice starting points. From personal usage, the X-T2 would need to truly do something amazing that would make me want to buy it to replace the X-T1, for once, I am holding a camera that I feel confident in keep for several years and not just until the next updated version. Plus depending on where you live, there might still be some Fuji refund on-going until mid-Jan or end of it. It's always nice to be able to buy new gear at directly reduced prices. -
Had to smirk a bit about it, that's one of the reason I always have a hand on my camera when moving around crowded parts of areas with lots of bumping places. My X-T1 hangs at my side only when I really need both hands to do something more important than protecting my gear. The rest of time, I have my sling around my shoulder and camera shoved into my bag to minimize chances. That's one slight advantages that Peakdesign has over Blackrapid, I can put the Slide on the tightest position and feel it right on my back nested between my shoulder blades, even with the 18-135 lens I can walk around with enough confidence that it will be juggling at my side and would need a hand to hold it steady while I am quickly moving from one point to another.

Meh... Seeing is believing, until we really get an announcement for a pro level flash for Fuji, I wouldn't be holding my breath, Fuji and flashes is a sad enough story so far...

I do not think Fuji is even trying to keep up with the competition, they are just doing their thing. The success of the Instax system tells you a lot about what they are thinking of their photography system. From an honest point of view, the Fuji X cameras are lacking in a lot of points, but their natural way of working along the "Ol' Timer" style charmed away quite a lot of the older protogs. Congrats on your Loxia, please share some pictures with me as that lens also got me curious. Oh and if you could do a few low light AF test I will be curious about that part too. I got a couple of colleagues discussing about those Phase Dectection AF points. From the bit of time we had the camera in our hands, it felt kinda like the Phase AF points served mostly to get there then the camera would switch to Contrast for the fine tuning.

A real pro level flash for Fuji is still rather elusive, I do not think any of us could give you a concrete answer on that part. Although there are viable alternative, if TTL is no needed. Yongnuo is rather nice on a X-T1 and works just as good as any manual flash and cost a fraction of the price of the SB800 or SB900 from Nikon. Nissin i40 seems like a solid second flash if you need one. TTL seems to be working with the Fuji system, but it has some clunky dials and the joints can be a bit loose, but it does have the advantage of delivery as much light as much larger flash and cost moderately nice.

Can we have a few snaps to see how bad it is ? -
Dust should be fine on the X-T1, just don't open any doors unprotected and make sure to have a WR lens to be extra secure. I haven't done any desert but I did sandy beaches with windy condition with the 18-135 and I didn't had much issues. Cleaning the dials for sands was a bit annoying to be honest.

Welcome around and this indeed a weird thing for Fuji X system. Camera wise, there is really nothing impressive: - 16 MP sensor on APS-C where the standard is shifting toward 24MP now. - 5 years old sensor, yep still the same old one for the past 5 years, just newer CPU to process a bit faster. - Super weird controls if you are used to DSLR, with all those dial turning and such on the X-T1. - Old film camera look, almost hipsterly look. - No IBIS. - No backside illuminated sensor. - Raw limited to 6400 ISO. - A WR tag that is almost laughable next to the level of Pentax. (Actually now that I look at it... The X-T1 does look almost like a bad camera...) And despise all this, there is still something deeply enjoyable to shoot with Fuji, a way of working, the way the camera behaves when you change settings or just the handling of it. It is quite a weird feeling to put into word but when I leave the larger DSLR Nikon and get home with my X-T1 shoots a bit here and there on my home I feel content about it. I think you are right when you say that some of these features are not "needed". I had a chat with a colleague about the Fuji system compared to the rest of the DSLR world and described the Fuji camera like aiming for the Protogs but not really for their work time but more toward their leisure and it did have a nice ring to it.

Hmm... sorry to burst your bubble but the manual did specify to not use it under rain. Also, if the SD card was soaked, you clearly did not protect the camera under your jacket or anything to cover it and just it out to take all the water. This camera ain't a Pentax where you could wash it under a shower...

I don't get why the angst against Fuji over a rumor, even if it turns out to be true, so what about it ? Which 35mm for Sony ? The Loxia at F2 or the Distagon F2.8 ? As for Sony, there isn't much to dislike about the A7 MkII series, all 3 of them are very good to excellent camera body and they are finally getting good to very good lenses. On paper, Sony is making a lot of ticks in the right check boxes for a lot of shooters. Some love, others hate it. I remain mostly curious about the whole thing and wonder if Sony is going to release another body in 6-8 months from now.
-
Before getting the X-T1, I was considering the Sony A7 series too, but at the time the mix of lack of lenses and the outrageous prices for them along kinda medium level of IQ kept me from getting into the eco-system. Later on, we got more lenses, even more pricier but there was a good reason for them to be and the camera bodies also got MUCH better. If I didn't got into Fuji and was still looking for something for myself, Sony might have won me over. I still keep an eye on the system just for curiosity sake and hope that I won't get a case of nasty GAS one day.
