From my trials on the CCTV lenses on Nikon, those are just bad. Like really bad... Poor build quality, sharpness is all over the place. The glass can sometimes color tinted for no absolute reasons, the F-ring wouldn't turn or give completely wrong value, so you have to shoot almost always wideopen but that's where it's IQ is the poorest. Sometimes you can get one less mediocre than the others but that's about it. I would still follow Milandro's advice and use a legacy lens with an adapted mount. Now if you want to play with the FoV of a 35mm, grab your zoom kit and zoom it at 35mm, easy enough and does a decent enough job for no extra cost and still have good IQ.

Oh god, the first time I tried that 35mm in my regular camera shop, the sales guy immediately stepped in and explained to me that it was normal sound for it. I guess the surprise look I had when I heard it focus could have caused the reaction. But yeah, certainly not the lens I would use in a rather quiet area, the 18-135 with its LM engine is a lot less noisy.

Instax SP-1 printer crop annoyance... help?
darknj replied to FreakPhoto's topic in Other Fuji X Accessories
The croping can not be avoided, the printer is based on the same technology as the Instax camera which use the 4:3 ratio. If you don't have any JPEGs and produce the print from the RAW, that could explain the washout colors of the prints. -
I really like the look and features of the Shapeshifter bag too. I guess I will need to see it first in physical condition before I would be able to take a decision about it.

I would go with the Billingham 305, the front zipper pocket is wide enough to accommodate the two laptops, the main compartment can be shared between your camera gear and day to day needs or small travel things or even put a smaller bag that for touring th city with just your camera gear. The issue with the billingham 305, it's still big, even when empty and can be a bit cumbersome to use when it doesn't have much inside. Thinktank also have a Shapeshifter backpack, it's build for a bulky 17" laptop, it should be fine with your 2 13" ones. There is plenty enough room for camera gear and you can compress it down to 3inches when gear is removed. All in all, that backpack is really nice, but do ask for the laptop part depth as I think it should be ok for about 2" thick laptop but I am not certain. It's a bit cheaper than the billingham too and I am considering it heavily for when I need to travel unhindred by a messenger bag but still carry my gear and a laptop with me. And I think Lowepro might offer similar bags at relatively cheaper prices, but I do not know their product well enough to offer advices/comments.

I recently had to send back my 35mm back for repair as the dust filter got somehow slightly pushed out of the lens. It wasn't anything dramatic nor blocked the lens from working, but still went back to my retailer since I am still well within my 2 years warrenty and shipped back for repair. While it didn't really took THAT long, more or less 2 weeks. I still felt that I prefer the overall feeling with Nikon NPS. That could be the one reason I would never let go of my Nikon gear because I know it can get fixed fast and if needed, I can get a replacement for whatever is broken. It kinda made me wish Fuji could have a service like that. Just drive in, tell them what's wrong, get a loan/temp replacement, and continue working until your product is back for pick up.

The unusual field of view takes some getting used to, but I really like it. It's like an acquired taste, takes a bit to really appreciate it the, nor really wide, like the 23mm, nor tighter like the 35mm. I often swap between the 27mm and the 35mm due to practicability and bokeh needs or if light drops.

I'm looking for something like this?!
darknj replied to ElCucoArg's topic in Bags, Half Cases & Straps for Fuji X
I will join milandro on this one. Me not likey the idea that anything could knock my lens off or worse bump into something solid that could break it because it was resting on my hips and not inside my bag. In a studio work, maybe, then again I am in no such a hurry that I can not just walk a few feet to the table and swap lenses. -
Fuji X-T1 annoying sound while in shooting mode
darknj replied to omerz's topic in Fuji X-T1 / Fuji X-T10
We had a small sub-thread discussion about it before. Basically it is there and you can't do anything about it. I assume it is related to the Linear Motor inside that performs the focusing. -
That's how most of us get to those 350+ shots. Any other way and you are stuck with 250ish most of the time and god if you dare leave it on LCD sensor it or only EVF it can trickle down to below 200 shots...

This might sound silly, but did you verify the AM/PM settings ?

Complete Overview over the available and upcoming Fuji X-Mount lenses
darknj replied to quincy's topic in Fuji X Lenses
Quite a few times yes, Internet is filled with wise and knowledable ppl too. -
Take your X100T and try shooting with it for a week and only that camera. At the end of week decide if you keep wanting to go back to your X-T1 or not. Forcing you to use only your least liked camera will help decide if it does actually grow on you or not at all. I also agreed that if you have the X-T1 you shouldn't need to get the X-T10, maybe the X-E2 for a smaller comact camera that can still hold its own if you need something smaller/lighter, plus also, cheaper. The 27mm lens is really good for something of that size, it's my second favorite lens tied with the 35mm. To each their own. I also rather disliked the X-Pro1 when I had it in my hands while it is also not a bad camera at all.
-
Those are quite different cameras and while doing the same thing, they don't do it the same way. The X100T is a range finder camera, the OVF is there for those who prefer to use that. EVF, while good on the X-T1 is still in its infancy. The shutter lag for example is extra annoying when not used to it. Both has advantages and inconvenience. The OVF for example will only draw a very marginal amount of power toward it, leaving your camera with tons of juice to take pictures, the X-T1 can last around 350ish shots, I have heard about some shooters reaching the 500 shots. The X100T can do 700 shots. I am heavily considering the X100T camera mostly because, a second hand one, cost the price of the XF 23mm F1.4 prime. It would serve me as a back up camera and about a stop less in light but same focal length. It's really hard to deny the X100T being small. X-T1 with XF 27mm does come close, but you are losing a bit on the focal length and lose also a stop of light.

Unless proven wrong, ever since the XF line was brought in existance, I have never seen a lens appearing out of the blue without having some kind of notice on the roadmap. Hence the reason of the roadmap. There are still some lenses under rumors, like that 33mm F1.0 that might pop suddenly in the market, but I still doubt they would be releasing something without announcing it first, even if it is just a quaterly beforehand.

Ok, Fuji...You win. I'll shoot JPG! ;-)

Edited for double posting. My apologies for this. -

Try shooting at DR200, it would bump your ISO at 400, but considering the X-T1 sensor, that's hardly an issue. Your JPEGs will look a bit more dramatic too. -
If they make a 23mm F2.8, it would never leave my X-T1 either
-
Just like Phil I would advise either the 10-24mm F4 or the 18-135mm F3.5-5.6. The later being perfect if you need something that carry with you everywhere you go on the X-T1, plus weather sealing is handy at times. If you want to go wide, the 10-24mm is clearly the winner, with its 4ish stops OIS, you could do shoots at 0.5 sec and come out sharp most of the time handheld. It pretty much comes down to how much you want to carry and how much you are willing to pay for it.
-
Bokeh is okay, it's not buttery smooth like the 35mm 1.4 but it's decent enough for separation, I would have liked it at F2 but honestly at the size of the lens, it is really hard to complain about many things.

Are you looking to buy a new smartphone maybe ? Or even worse, would you comparing the efforts of making lenses by Samyang in the same category as Samsung's attempt to break into the mirrorless world ?
-
As prestigious Ken Rockwell's review is about the X100T, I would still take most of his words with a heavy grain of salt. He has shown in past that his mind does flickers quite often between a generation and the next. Just read his review of the X-T1 and then the X-T10, both are essentially the same camera with minor tweaks and less monetary worth. In his mind the X-T10 is akin to a flying piece of turd (dramatisation).

Just as Milandro said, I would be super surprised to not have any lens flare at the angle you took the shot. It is good that Fuji isn't violating some laws of physics ;] I assume you mean Samyang, right ?
