Tell me about it, it's a nightmare if I need to have a very specific lens for a task and not able to find any shop that would rent it. I have to resort to asking other pros if they would be willing to lend me the lens...

IBIS could be very close of an instant purchase for me, but only because I started using old legacy lenses with adapters and I am considering focal reducers. But in all honesty, it would need to win me over that silly Nikon D500 at the moment. The specs got me drooling but I am still waiting for the release and have some actually reviews of the images and need to have in my hand to test out the ergonomics of it. The same thing would apply to the X-T2, so depending on how things proceed with the actual reviews of the D500 and its handling along the features of the X-T2, I will not take a decision before the end of summer 2016 if not autumn actually.

It's a decent enough deal for me to also consider it. If you live in the US and don't have to pay a silly large amount of import taxes, go for it. The XF 18-55 is perfectly fine to start with, it is a lot better than the competitor "kit" lenses.

What is your X-E3 wish list?
darknj replied to bhu's topic in Fuji X-E4 / Fuji X-E3 / Fuji X-E1 / Fuji X-E2 / Fuji X-E2s
If you don't have a top display, the dials are a bit easier as you actually know where the settings are. But most would use the Auto ISO anyway. I rarely turn the ISO dial, usually it goes from Auto to 400 and 6400 when really in low light and I need some more speed. -
None taken, and to stay on your point. Look at it the other way around. They could have NOT said anything, let the frustrated ppl buy the X-T10 for the new features and still launched the X-E2S for those that didn't grab the X-T10 and still leave everyone with X-E2 waiting for the XE-3 to be released. Many manufacturers (*coughs*Canikon*coughs*) would have done it that way and everybody would have been "fine" with it. Remember they are still a business and making money is still their number one goal. Everything else is secondary. Any business company that tries to convince you of anything else is purely and simply lying.

Meh... I am starting to wonder if I can mortage my grand mother at the bank...

They all do this nowadays. They even make cameras out to test water and make customer pays for the R&D for some specific features or an algorithm that will be used in the next flagship. Granted, Fuji might not have a super tight control over their FW and might skip some Quality Checks for new releases of FW, but where have you seen anything even remotely close of that from other manufacturers ? Canon almost never release any good FW for any camera, Sony had to be bemoaned at for several weeks before the introduced the 14 bit lossless compression ? Even Nikon is going to release a FW patch for the unreleased D5 because there have been enough ppl complaining about the ridiculous 3min 4k recording. But they are all doing it for their flagship cameras, the lower lines are pretty much disregarded. The X-E2 is still a 2 years old camera, I still find it remarkable that they still try to improve the features.

If you have some nice lenses, you might want to keep them and consider adapters, or manual focus if you don't mind that.

Meh... It's even more depressing... Basically all the countries around mine seems to provide a minimal of support while mine doesn't... Just great...

Wish I could have that in Belgium, I could drop the Nikon gear fully.

The real issue at hand is that Fuji service pro level is far behind Canikon, unless you are an X-Shooter, I am not expecting any kind of differences in processing the repair between a regular user and somebody who's actively trying to earn a living with Fuji gear. I had to send my XF 35 F1.4 back for maintenance because the dust filter slipped out of the lens barrel, I clearly stated that I had an even coming up in 15 days and I was planning to use that lens. It took them 3 weeks to get my lens back. No temporary replacement, no apologies, nothing that could have helped me out. I was stuck at either go at the event without my lens and find a way around that or just buy another one. It is good that I am not earning my living with Fuji gear because I would have dropped it as workhorse system and stood my ground with Nikon.

I am also not a fan of the GPS in camera bodies, they are usually crudely done and immense on the battery drain for something that is hardly any better than a gimmick. Most of the ppl will also complain about it not being perfectly calibrated when using that feature. Yes I am partisan of cameras that are good at what they are designed for, taking pictures. Anything that helps me enhance that is welcomed. But knowing exactly where that picture was taking is very very secondary to me.

I hardly ever have these kind of considerations, the cameras are mostly tools and I don't have any care if a hammer has a silver head or if it is fully black. My only concern is "Does it change my pictures or not ?"

If it is still under warranty send it back. It could be a case of minor dead on arrival, or maybe one of the few that was missed by the quality check. Until you know what went wrong with it, it is rather hard to say what could have caused it and the same behavior could have happened with any camera. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

Just going to quote part of your post for the sake of easier reading. The fact is, Nikon Gold NPS is the same level no matter where you are in the world. If I bought my gear in US, live in Europe and it breaks down on a shoot in Asia, I will get a replacement. No questions asked and hassle free. Fuji is still very far from such a service level. I had this issue a couple of times but it turned out to be the eye cup moving around a bit and blocking part of the eye sensor. Had also some odd behavior when the drive dial is stuck halfway between 2 modes, or speed dials sometimes too. The camera can sometimes do odd things when knobs are not turned fully or switches pressed all the way. Double check that part too. Also, if it is under warranty, it takes them usually 3 weeks including all the shipping but make to run it by your camera shop, it makes a lot of things smoother.

A MF camera is certainly not for the mass of shooters. Just like a PhaseOne camera isn't going to sit in everybody's living room. Those size camera are clearly targeted at users that have a need for it. A similar situation would be to compare the XF 23 F1.4 against the X100/S/T camera. Is the lens sharper and optically better ? Certainly so. The X100/S/T is smaller, lighter in every way and also easier to use. But to the shooter that needs that kind of rendition that only a F1.4 can do, there will be no trade off, he/she will pick up that lens, even if it is bigger, cost more and a bit more clunky to use. If Fuji want to start hitting at the Protogs in studio shoot, a MF camera makes a lot of sense.

Good question, the best answer I can give you is: How deep is your wallet ? If you have enough resources to afford both a new camera now and the X-T2 at the release, then yeah go for it. The X-T1 is still a very good camera. There are some slight issues with it but nothing really earth shaking just some slight annoyance.

Agreed, if there one area where the Nikon bodies have always done exceptionally well is the AF speed, even the Nikon 1 got a very impressive AF for such a small sensor. Anyway, I didn't run to get the pre-order on the D500, still waiting for the X-T2 announcement and if it comes with IBIS, I will snatch it immediately just because I recently got into legacy lenses, courtesy of Milandro

I can get behind that, my Gold NPS status has helped me in a pinch tons of times with my Nikon gear. Kind of wish there was something as good for Fuji...

Thank you ! I didn't knew that one at all, that is going to quite handy for a few moments too now !
