Firmware Support
milandro replied to dbr.ro's topic in Fuji X-E4 / Fuji X-E3 / Fuji X-E1 / Fuji X-E2 / Fuji X-E2s
that is the assumption that everyone has been operating under since the messy introduction of the X-E2S ( which didn’t seem to offer much, in the way of hardware or software, difference from the X-E2) which followed the X-E2 firmware upgrade that maybe wasn’t planned to have been carried out. Yet, the fact that the entire sensor generation will be upgraded makes this exercise rather futile. The X-T20 is already there and the X-E3 will follow suit so what would be the point for anyone to buy the X-E2S and what upgrade could be expected (if not in terms of Flash capability) that couldn't surpass the limitation imposed by its hardware? -
the best way to find out about an oracle credibility is to go to visit him at home and ring the doorbell. If he or she asks “ Who’s there?” they are no good.

of course ... Just remember that green is the international coded color for GO!, while red is the international color code for STOP!

they have tried and failed in the beginning of their run this has costed much money, now they have learned from their previous costly faults. The X-A-1-2 ( and their new X-A3) was disappointing in the whole world except from Thailand and South East Asia where they sold in great numbers ( That’s why they are doing this again). I am not going to miss the 33.

I suppose, since this is their business ( they’ve been doing this a long time and wake up every day to take such decisions as part of their job, for which they are paid...), expertise and their money, that they know what they are doing.

Seems that someone has finally reached the conclusion that to produce anything one needs a market large enough to justify it. Of course there wil be many who will cry their outrage ( but not all who will do so would have put their wallet where their keyboard is) at this act of disrespect. But they are not running the Fuji company and have to justify their act to several share holders who already wonder if and when they were going to see their money back.

well, I seem to have this permission, because I see them just fine. There are many such tests, some tell us similar things some tell us otherwise. I like Fuji cameras and don’t like Sony’s, lens come with the camera which is the thing that determines a pleasurable experience in shooting it, or not, but nobody and no camera is perfect. The thing with digital images is that variables are great and number and end results are greatly varying by means of tiny variables. So there can be results that are contradictory, resolution of a text is not the same as resolving grass or foliage or clouds some would object. I have made my choice already.

There are many ways to sell things, the worst is belittling, patronizing and antagonizing a potential buyer even when he is not buying anything because, one day or another this person will be a buyer and will remember the way he or she was treated. Often, this is an attitude held mostly by a certain type of know-it-all sales person, one who looks down on his customers who are all, to him, inferior human being which should drink at his source of all knowledge . More often than not, when one sales person is like that the rest in the shop also do the same thing. One time treated like that I never set foot in that shop again. I vote with my wallet, here are so many places to chose from. If some shop is run like that I spend my money elsewhere where I am treated as a treasured customer.

very nice, you Sir are a very fine photographer. I like the good use of the compressed view of a tele for landscapes with trees and the meadows with the sheep, the one with trees I would have enhanced contrast a little ( or maybe go the other way around) to deal differently with the haze in the background.

Do we tolerate the bodies because of the lens qualities?
milandro replied to frankinfuji's topic in General Discussion
Just as well that they seem to ( and very right they are in doing that!) follow their nose because if they were to go all the directions that people want them to go, they would have to go practically everywhere. -

fuji reached, for the first time in years and years, a market position that it never had when it was trying to imitate and keep up with the joneses , they created their own niche and have a following of users who are obviously dissatisfied with other brands. No one can please everyone all the time. -

The point here was people who don’t like the bodies and like the lenses tolerating the body for the lens. Chose the body and lens which suits you and stay with it. I suppose you meant viewfinder, a view camera is something completely different. I am a GREAT friend of those, used them for many years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/View_camera I never bought a fuji viewfinder camera BECAUSE I don’t like the concept ( owned a few over the years never liked them), so, I’ve never moved in, therefore no need, for me, to move on. I like XT and XE series, the X pro, I don’t care, but you, please, carry on! -
Most pleasurable activities, of which photography is one, benefit from lowering speed and enhancing the intensity of the experience. ... I am thinking of slow food! Taking 5 more minutes for a picture reduces your free time? In the times when I shot 4" x 5" or 8” x 10” sometimes I went out a whole day to take 1 picture... I am very sorry that you live such a rushed life, must be terrible! Well, to each his own!

Better sensor? Hardly! ( see how many complaints there are about the visible grid or red dot, for example) Bigger but for what? Bigger prints? What was the biggest print you had done in the last 3 years? Lager than 2 x 3 meters ( because that is what you can print in gallery quality with your 16MB). I find the “ bigger sensor because I can crop” an incredible argument. Isn’t it better to think more about making pictures? Well, of course there are those who shoot hundreds of the exact same picture. I shoot little less and think more. That’s better. There is a profound difference between using DSLR which has a mirror to focus and Mirrorless is that the EVF acts as a light amplifier. So, to a certain extent ( unless you are really shooting in the dark ... what’s in an idiom!) it makes no difference if you shoot at f4 a lens that has that as maximum aperture of 1.4 in the way that or both at f 4 they will all look the same on your evf. Try it.

no one HAS to buy fuji camera or lenses. You like them, great. You don’t like them? Move on to something else. -
Different kettle of fish for different dinners. Autofocus lenses are useful for everyday and general purpose photography but you cannot beat the rendering of most analog non autofocus lenses for portraits or effect photography such some forms of still life. Besides there is an emotional element involved in working with a “ slow camera” that is simply not there with a “ fast camera” , I promise you that that slow approach leads to s different photography, one that I am much more interested in. I agree that if you are doing this simply for the novelty of it, that quickly wears off. But I am not interested in novelty because it is no novelty to me. I’ve been doing this for a very long time and I was doing it when photography was analogic only. I laugh at the fact that the youth now plays with the Diana Flash Cacamera because it was the first camera that I could call my own 50 years ago ( and I had already used the Super-Ikonta owned by my father!). I like old photography. I am old too. I own different sets of lenses ( AF, MF, Legacy, Experimental) for different purposes and actually have been experimenting with certain things such as using projection lenses in portrait photography. Of course lots of these effects can be recreated digitally but the typical user of a camera with dials and buttons is certainly more interested in producing “ in camera” look as opposed to a complete post production way of doin g things.

Long ago, when I had a Rolleiflex ( I’ve had a few) I learned the obvious advantages of using a pistol grip especially in combination with a prism which changed the use of the camera from waist level to eye level. This made a much more solid grip with a camera that is essentially a box. I’ve been thinking for a while to do the same thing with my X-T1 and I was trying to buy one of these ( there are many cheap ones on the market) when I was actually given one which may have been originally having a shutter release or perhaps was used on a film camera like a Super 8. So here it is, apologies for the quality of the pics, obviously made with a not so good phone ( I don’t need a good phone camera, I am a proper photographer after all!). There are obvious advantages in using this both for portrait shooting position ( vertical) or landscape ( horizontal) when one, like me, has chosen to use a Lplate. You could, if you want to do this even faster, use an arca-clone plate on the grip and then switching would be a snip.

Welcome. Unless you go by the motto “ why doing things the simple way when you can do them the difficult way?"Manual exposure shooting makes only sense if you have specific reasons to do that. After a good 40 years of photography, much of it spent by being a professional photographer, I’ve used manual and automatic exposure (never Program though). My favorite was always Aperture priority and normally (still) chose first the aperture (which I consider paramount ) then see whether the shutter speed suites my necessities ( avoiding camera motion blur) or the situation ( subject moving rapidly or wanting to get subject motion blur). But with digital photography where the EVF showing " what you see is what you get “ things are even simpler because if the couple of shutter speed and aperture aren’t what you want you simply augment or reduce the ISO value and within very broad limits this will not impact the end result much or at all. Having said this. Also a “ fast prime” is for EVF cameras overrated unless you want the separation given by a very light efficient aperture. This is very different if you want to focus manually with a DSLR but autofocus with a mirrorless make little use of the lens at maximum aperture clarity since it is never there when stopped down ( check your lenses). It would be much more usful to have a FAST (in autofocus speed terms) lens than having a costly light efficient lens. Why do you want to upgrade? Is there something specific that you are missing? Do you need the speed that only the X-T2 would offer IF you buy the bulky grip ( the X-T20 won’t), do you need to print any larger the 2 x 3 meters (that you can already do)? Is the joystick (many complain about it) absolutely indispensable?

Quite by chance I’ve reacquired a Helios 44-B, this one has some helicoid problems but it works just fine on my helicoidal FX adapter (M42) , the price of these things has shot up since they’ve been rediscovered but you can’t beat them even now that some people ask good money for these old lenses.
-
Another chance acquisition brought me a Leitz Colorplan 90mm , which has to be one of the best projection lenses out there. The adapter that I’ve used was a T mount M42 adapter which I’ve used removing the T adapting ring ( and used the 3 screws to fasten the colorplan) then I have put the lens on my helicodal adapter shown above. The lens is rather heavy and can’t be used at infinity yet it is usable for portraits which is, what you wan to do with a lens like this, remember, there is no aperture here. The results are similar to the Leitz Elmaron albeit with a slightly different effect caused by different compression. Considering that these adaptations cost virtually nothing if you have the the rings and the helicoidal adapter I really think that you get a great portrait lens for pennies.

Recommendations for an Old Macro Lens
milandro replied to Savviest's topic in Adapting lenses to Fuji X
Although there are general rules the threshold of application depends on the country. Sometimes the Chinese shipping agent declares a lower value and you don’t pay anything even if it is more. By the way, in the olden days you could buy something like this all over Europe and would have costed you an arm and a leg. Perhaps there are Polish makers , there are certainly Russian ones ( buy they are again outside EU). You can see if anyone imports this in the EU
