Recommendations for an Old Macro Lens
milandro replied to Savviest's topic in Adapting lenses to Fuji X
if you select one of these at less than €30 including shipping you won’t be paying any VAT and the infamous “ handling through customs” which postal service or courier apply http://www.ebay.com/itm/Adjustable-Focusing-Helicoid-Macro-Adapter-Tube-Fr-M42-Mount-Lens-to-Canon-EOS-M/391578321390?_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D40805%26meid%3D366b9c7bc64948acb1b3ac1302ecc77c%26pid%3D100623%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D151091518641 -

Recommendations for an Old Macro Lens
milandro replied to Savviest's topic in Adapting lenses to Fuji X
I have to agree that all macro lenses are sharp and I’ve used with much satisfaction a Asahi Pentax Takumar 100 f4. Frankly speaking I think that the 200mm above is too large and impractical for most applications However I have another suggestion and that is using a macro helicoidal extendable adapter with a macro lens or with any ordinary M42 lens that you may have of course a close focus lens gets even more a macro reach. Naturally this comes at some light loss ( which, as we know decreases with the square of the distance) but it is very usable all the same even hand held. I’ve just shot two quick and rough shots with a 50mm Meyer f1.8 at f4. This lens is already a “ close focus” focussing at 33cm but with this adapter ( which is now for me the standard adapter that I use with M42 lenses) I can get 32mm of field on the wide side. -
Fuji and Red Dot Flare issue
milandro replied to dereksurfs's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
well, I may be “ very ignorant" but I never said that people don’t or shouldn’t shoot " in the sun” ( against the sun). I was saying that IF you chose to shoot against the sun THEN you can reasonably expect that there will be some flare. But please, show us your great accomplishments in this or any other department.- 35 replies

... that explains the confrontational thing

you probably mean a comparison...

try to put the selector of the meter on the center position, that will give you a more balanced reading.

fortunately, fuji cameras do pretty much wysiwyg, at least if set up properly, I consider the compensation dial the most used, useful and important dial of my camera.

Upset at the Vertical Grip discount for 100
milandro replied to Brooklynboy's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
what are you upset about? It is a well known fact that the people whom buy first pay more for something that later on will be discounted, besides, isn’t this te case with any special offer, they appear when products need a push and they aren’t there when products push themselves. How do you think the people whom bought a X-E2 when after some time the camera was on the market had a drop in price of almost 50%? -
that is nothing but normal in digital photography and hardly a feature of Fuji cameras. It's called color banding. There are many resources on line which talk about it and offer workarounds but some of it is built in the digital technique itself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colour_banding https://fstoppers.com/post-production/learn-how-fix-color-banding-using-just-one-simple-tool-7946 more on it... http://www.hdrshooter.com/2015/01/09/dealing-with-color-banding/

Possible to disable Advanced Filter?

We all want something. If I were to wish anything is that people wouldn’t sign with the use of the telephone brand and type and program to access a forum , all of this is useless information and free advertising. Sorry, it can be easily disable and its use I can’t understand. -
FUJIFILM M MOUNT ADAPTER SETUP?
milandro replied to V23's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
You put the real focal length in, the one on the lens. For all the rest look here. http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/accessories/lens/mount/fujifilm_m_mount_adapter/ -
Possible to disable Advanced Filter?
milandro replied to silverfstop's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
Not everyone has experienced the “ obvious flaw”. I for one have never but one time turned it unintentionally and it went to CL. Since firmware 3 update , I believe, it has been possible to exclude the working of this by using the procedure described. So, obviously they provided a way to prevent this. Again Fuji is not in the habit of taking part to this or any other forum to explain themselves. If you don’t want to risk doing this by mistake do the procedure as described. -
Possible to disable Advanced Filter?

The remedy that I suggest works, it disables the dial completely, you can try yourself. Fuji is not in the habit of answering pleas, prayers, queries on this forum or elsewhere. -
Possible to disable Advanced Filter?
milandro replied to silverfstop's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
it is not a button that needs being reassigned but the whole left hand dial (which has several controls) which needs being blocked. It is possible to do this, I’ve just checked. OP do this if you want to solve the problem. In the function menu ( the one with the spanners) the third menu has a Function Lock submenu, you can lock there a number of functions, also this one. FIRST t! you need to activate the function lock. Then you go back one step and you select the function that you want locked. Run though the menu. You select Drive Dial and now ALL the functions of the drive dial are locked. -

There is a way to disable some functions I am not sure that you can completely disable the workings of the entire multifunctional dial controlling the whole of the advanced filters. Check the one before last of the Functions menu . Only once I had this happening with the dial and it went on continuous shooting. If you leave in in some obvious advanced filter (like black and white with a color filter) you will immediately see that It goes there . I never anymore set any function ( continuous or advanced) off unintentionally though. Once bitten twice shy I suppose. -
I think that the best that one can do at this moment in time is waiting. AS you know I am going to skip generation 2 (or 3 depends what you cont and how you do this). But I’ve sold the X-E2 before it was impossible to sell. I only use one camera at the time. My X-T1 is my trusted companion for some time already and it does everything I want. Maybe, just maybe, in a couple of years Fuji will come up with something else, something better, which will have substantial improvements for me. Then, and only then, I will consider upgrading. In the meantime I have own many lenses which I will be able to use now , then, if any interesting (to me) improvement will come. Much better to invest in lenses than a camera body. A friend of mine used to call me every now and used to begin his conversations with “ André, we have to become rich!”, I told him that it was a good idea but that I had already all I needed. If we were richer we would have , maybe, a better house, but I already have a house to live in, own a better saxophone, but I already own a great one, a better camera, but I already own a camera that suits my needs. Sometimes I see some boring and useless pictures that some has made using the latest of the cameras but that could have been made with any camera. None of these mediocre photographers needs any of the things that they have bought to please their ego, but they did all the same. The comment that makes me cringe more than any other is : “ I can afford it, therefore I did it”. I find this the worst attitude possible, the epitome of the throw away society that we live in. I have money ergo I buy things that I don’t need.

Sorry, I meant the original charger that came with the camera. The OEM charger might have been stopping for many reasons to charge your batteries, especially if the batteries stopped being capable to be charged ( when they reach the end of the lives, they no longer charge). Anyway, why don’t you revert to a Fuji charger, there muct be some around? I have used several for 3 years and everything works perfectly

Indeed, I have the Fujinon 55 f1.8 which came witha 1971 ST 701 ( the first reflex with interchangeable lenses that Fuji ever made) . The lens has a pin but not tab. Unfortunately it also has no selector auto/manual like for example Pentax Takumars have. This makes it impossible to use with some adapters (those without a flange inside such as my kipon tilt adapter). Other than this this lens is spectacular and found it in incredible state.

, well, I want this look with digital photography, after having shot film for years and years. As usual, to each his own.

Get the 56mm f1.2 lens or wait for the 50mm f2?
milandro replied to hjalmarg1's topic in Fuji X Lenses
I have a number of autofocus lenses, so I know it does, but in my experience, not in this kind of portraits though.
