  1. buy, buy, economy needs a boost and someone has to do this. Splish, Splash!
  2. we’ve been there already. I don’t like viewfinder cameras and have tried many in over 40 years (although my father started me on his super Ikonta 6 x 9). Anyway no camera is perfect and no camera is for everyone.
  3. I suggest you were simply unlucky in three years I have never had any major problem with the X-T1 and I am planning to use it for as long as I can and only ever replace it if the camera no longer works. I have no desire to buy a X-T2 nor have I any need or use for any of its selling points. I might enjoy the joystick but that is about it. I don’t understand the need for a larger file nor I understand the need for any across simulation which I can reproduce in post production way better than the camera would do for me. So all in all I am happy and count my blessings.
  4. All of my Fujifilm cameras X-E1, X-M1, X-E2 & X-T1, never suffered from any of these problems. Maybe I am very lucky. But, given the succes of these cameras, one of the most successful system on the market which revived the ambitions of Fuji , very depressed after years of unsuccessfully producing quasi-Nikons. I suspect that most buyers have never experienced any problems. I never had any. Nor have I ever experienced any bug of the most common lamented by this last and particular camera, the X-T1, which is accused of losing the bottom screws around the tripod attachment and the detachment of the plastic “ skin” and many more problems. So I don’t have any need to lucubrate on whether the bodies are bad whereas the lenses are or would be good ( although there are plenty of complaints about the 35 f 1.4 being to noisy, various lenses having specs of black plastic or metal inside, the clunk of the 90, the slowness of this that or the other lens and so forth). I strongly suspect that on the whole, these are minor and very limited complaints all addressable by the repair services and percentage wise not any more significant than any brand of cameras or electronic appliances anywhere. Should this not be the case we would be a lot of remarkably prone to masochism, don’t you think? If Fuji would sell bad stuff they wouldn’t have the market position they have. As simple as that.
  5. it’s a nice picture with a different view than an ordinary one. I am sure it was made on purpose or that the publisher made good use of an exposure other than perfect. I like it. I would have cut out the top
  6. No complaints about any of the bodies that I have or have had. The camera (X-T1 now the others I’ve sold) works as well as any of my Nikon, Contax, Pentax of the past. I am used to shoot manual and non autofocus, when I started taking pictures there were no autofocus cameras. Sometime I wonder what the fuss about slow autofocus is. No complaints about any lens, both original or not. I own the 60mm, 18-55 and 50-230mm all perfect for my use of them. I have no complaints for the 60mm or the 50-230mm. I suspect that many whom do complain are used to debate how many angels would fit on a pinhead. You can fill your life of ifs or buts or you can deal with things. The Samyang 8 & 12mm are among the best lenses that I’ve ever owned in over 40 years ( I have also owned the 10-24 and swapped it for the 12 since I used it mostly at 10mm ). The Petzval 85mm does something that no lens (without heavy software intervention) could do. My resuscitated Oreston 50 f1.8 is both soft and sharp depending on the aperture despite its age and some particles on the inside of the lens. My Adapters allow me to use tilt effects ( Kipon) or use the Petzval or other lenses at a reduced focal close to their equivalent on a full frame.. I have also built a lens( well, almost) by using and modifying a Leitz Elmar 50mm f2.8 Projection lens. The results are stunning or so I think
  7. we’ll see, I intend to buy them since I am saving money by not upgrading I have money to spend
  8. The new Batteries have been especially developed for the X-T2 by using other batteries you are impairing the performance of the new camera http://brandonremler.blogspot.nl/2016/07/fujifilm-x-series-batteries-np-w126-np.html here a test the non original batteries, their performance is often poor and certainly not capable to support the X-T2 in high performance mode. http://www.fujirumors.com/tested-third-party-fuji-batteries-inflated-capacity-values-some-batteries-almost-fraud-and-the-winner-is/
  9. still in whatever printing test I have seen between the X-T1 and X-T2 the difference is almost invisible.
  10. I am sending these messages from a comfortable ’60 vintage chair , using my fingertips, while sitting in front of my 4 years old computer, the brand and model of which is none of anybody’s business
  11. I am not selling my X-T1 on account of what I said before. I am using it. As long as it takes pictures I won’t be needing an upgrade. Maybe in 3 years time when the X-T3 shows up, we’ll talk again about it. On the other hand , yes, I am sure that we all have drawers full of phones ( I do) that are still perfectly working but that we replaced for no better reasons that we wanted a new phone and could afford one. Cameras apparently are no better. Same goes for the stereo systems... lots have replaced perfectly working systems for no other reason that they were no longer the latest flavor of the month. I have given my son my old amplifier and turnable from the ’80 with speakers. All perfectly working and state of the art back then. They still work perfectly now. Of course my son has a Sonos wi-fi system which he uses at home. A few weeks ago, we were at his place, internet was down, so the Sonos didn’t work. The good old stereo did. We played records (now trendy again) all evening. I gave him also 300 LP’s which I didn’t throw out, not as others did! I guess I get attached to things. Thrifty is my middle name.
  12. Good for you, then buy the camera that you want. You seem to have made up your mind already. Buy it, it is safe, won’t bite you back. Good luck!
  13. I love this lens it does exactly what I want a lens to be doing when shooting portraits. I want to find out if the aperture with the many holes can create something interesting with this lens. What I am going to also find out is how the lens behaves if used with a Canon Ef adapter with an aperture. True, you shouldn't put an aperture behind the lens , but if you try to do what you are not supposed to do you may come across something unexpected. The adaptation of the grip is a very simple one. I’ve been thinking for a real long time how to do it and after discarding many options I went for the good old cork. It is very easy to shape and the whole process took my less than 1 hour. I am afraid that I not going to go for the Rat Look or the even more modern derelict look ( a car that looks thrashed outside but under the bonnet has the best engine possible). However I would definitely go for a customized fuji camera like this Digital Nikon.
  14. Just imagine how many lenses money can buy with the money that you are not spending on an upgrade that you might not “ need” at all ( the verb “ need “ is used very loosely here since I doubt the many among the buyers “ need” to buy a new camera ). Those lenses might be very much more useful to you when the next flavor of the moth will show up. And I am not even talking of the X-T3, even simply, and more predictably, when the X-T20 will hit the marketplace! When I bought the X-T1 there wasn't any X-T10 on the horizon. Lo and behold, almost a year after, the X-t10 came out. I was still happy to have bought the X-T1 but for my “ needs” (...used very loosely here too) I could have used the X-T10 with as much fun and making pretty much the same pictures. After all I did own a X-E2 and enjoyed every moment I had had that camera too. You could buy at least two of the most expensive lenses of the system and quench your thirst and keep the Gear Acquisition Syndrome at bay.
  15. again, nice portrait, one which fits my definition of a portrait.
  16. yes, I did this and immediately have no more problems with dropping slide apertures when holding the camera for vertical shots. The thing is that most people are not aware of this trick ( which was clearly in the intentions of the lens makers from the beginning otherwise they won’t have left the two winglets). But, as often happens, I don’t know how many people here have a Petzval lens. This thread doesn’t seem to have enticed many.
  17. I am happy not to be the only one who would advise not to upgrade, I’ve been given a lot of flack for having done thins in the past, from the upgrading party. I’ve stayed with my X-T1, sold the X-E2, invested in interesting lenses. I have put money on the side for the day when Fuji will come up with such improvements capable to sway me over to their future new model. For the time being I am happy where I am. There is no picture that I could or would want to take with any other camera or the that I could take with the X-T2 and can’t take with the X-T1. Personally I think that photographers take pictures and not their cameras. And that: if you are a good photographer you will take good pictures with any camera and that if you are a mediocre photographer buying a new camera will do absolutely nothing to improve your pictures. I have seen it happening with some folks who did buy. They shot mediocre pictures before and they still do this now. Of course this attitude has proven very unpopular on this board, especially among those whom bought the new cameras. It is understandable that people are proud of their new cameras but the motivations for doing so are paper thin. Some quote the increased size for printing purposes or increased cropping. Some want to shoot film in 4K or need shooting very fast action sports. I rarely print my pictures, certainly very rarely at the top of the printing capabilities of my sensor, but I could print them up to 2 x 3 meter with good professional results. So, I don’t see a real advantage in 24Mp over 16Mp. The minute improvements of the new sensor are, to me, only shown at microscopic level and by comparison. You can’t look at a picture taken with a X-t1 ( and that was marveling you a few months ago) and say “ What a piece of ... unsatisfactory photography , if only would have been shot with a X-T2! Then it would be a great picture!) I don’t shoot any sport or film nor do I intend to do these things with the necessary( for this) aid of a bulky grip. I try not to crop much or at all and try to compose, in camera, as much as possible. So, unless your life would be a misery without the new cameras, ( was it when there was no X-T2?) why would you want to buy a camera that does things that you don’t do or need? My reasons to buy into the Fuji System ( I’ve used 4 cameras until now) are still valid as they were before. I am shooting pretty much the same things now as I did when I bought my first X-E1. I have never found anything that I couldn’t do back then and certainly nothing that will improve, as compared to what I could do with my first Fuji, with the latest cameras. My main reason to buy my X-T1 was that I was given a great deal on it ( because the shop had failed to fix, a couple of times, my X-E1 and gave me a great discount) and because the EVF was a vast improvement over the X-E1’s! Of course things would be different if I had no camera at all. If I were to buy a camera ex-novo then I would certainly consider the new models but I have a camera. The best way to save money is not spending it for things that you don’t need in that way you have more money for things that you want. I wish you a lot of wisdom.
  18. So Lomography got back to me, I’ve asked if they sell the “ lumiere” set of Waterhouse aperture slides meant for the new 64mm f2.9 Daguerrotype Achromat lens because I’d like to experiment with those aperture (which remind me of the Imagon and Fuji SF (soft focus) apertures. They told me that currently they are not yet available but they might be sold later on down the line. I am looking forward to try those.
  19. Cheers, it is a very old technique that they have revived. There is nothing wrong in it other that with a few pennies you can do it yourself. I am very happy to have bought many things that I couldn’t have found easily or cheap or made myself. Made in China or Russia. So, the lens turbo by Zhongy is an excellent product ( I have 2) the tilt adapter by Kipon is great, the macro helicoid/adapter M42 Fuji Fx made by Pixco is very good too and the cherry on the cake the Petzval lens is superb.
  20. it is, but I am not sure in which way you find it interesting. It is certainly interesting that a company puts out on the market a lens which does very little else than you could do yourself at very little cost. So, yes, you can either buy the ready made lens or make your own. All you need is getting hold of a CCTV lens and a couple of rings and you are in business. You can do the same thing with a number of lenses really no need for a CCTV wideangle lens. This solution for super macro has been out there forever and you can find on line many resources on the matter, or you can buy the Zhongyi lens. Whichever you prefer.
  21. yes, they are, L plates fitting ( also halfcases) the X-E1 will fit the X-E2
  22. only M lenses are “ tunable”. Other lenses aren’t.
  23. Someone at Zhongyi has knowledge of the old photographic techniques and creative marketing ideas and contrabands them as new products. This lens, which looks so strange to some (but not quite so if you look closely) , is most probably simply a repurposed C-Mount lens for a CCTV camera which has been quite simply inverted and they put a ring for different cameras on it, where normally you would have the front lens. Of course it gives a great reproduction ratio, it is an inverted wideangle (!) and, as to be expected under these conditions, you won’t be able to focus infinity! New lens? Not quite! Just good old photography ( for those of us whom are old enough to remember it! ) With a little of ingenuity, you can do the same. Look up (inverting wideangle for macrophotography). There are blogs, such as this showing you the whole process and I am not going to repost here thei pictures. http://vkphotoblog.blogspot.nl/2013/08/reverse-lens-macro-photography-with-x.html It will cost you pennies! Do this yourself! All you need is a wideangle lens and an inversion ring https://www.amazon.com/Pixco-Reverse-Adapter-Fujifilm-X-Pro1/dp/B00BBPK2AQ
  24. the second lens looks very much like the old Samyang 8mm f3.5, I’d bet they are VERY closely related. the first too looks liek the 12mm Samyang, but the F number is off, still they look like two twin brothers separated at birth. ...what do we know about this 6,5mm, It looks suspiciously like newer the 8mm Samyang ( establishing real the focal length in these things is very complex, especially for a fish eye!) My feeling is that these “ Meike” are rebranded Samyang
  25. indeed, I have said so may times myself, yet this who thread is about comparing new with old.
