  1. The X-A series ( now comprising also the X-A10 which appears to be simply a re-packaged edition of the X-A2) is especially made for amateur photographers and targeted to the Asian market which requires cheaper cameras. In particular it is obviously made for the amateur market and in practice the X-A series has ONLY sold in Asia for reasons that must lay in the particular marketing situation there. The X-A series has a different type of sensor, not the X-trans sensor of all the other X cameras. The X-70 had a broader market and it was especially targeted to a wider audience but especially among the younger people. Yet the sales are not spectacular, or so I am told by my local shop, and after a first enthusiasm now they are certainly lagging behind the new generation of X cameras ( the pro 2 and T2). This cameras, the X-70, has also yesterdays sensor and will be either discontinued completely or replaced by a newer model with the new sensor soon. So my advise to you is to wait. Soon there will be the cheaper X-T20 and maybe the X-E3 will follow suit. In my opinion buying the X-A3 will be a choice which few European, American, Australian buyers will make because these markets go for better quality cameras which I am afraid are more expensive too. However the X-T20 and possibly the X-E3 will be certainly only a little more expensive than a X-A3 and probably as expensive as a X-70.
  2. as often happens using the Search function yields more results than asking a new questions. Some M users who have posted their use on X pro 2 or X T2 but alsoon other X cameras. http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/topic/398-x-pro-1-with-m-mount-lenses/ http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/topic/2432-xpro-2-and-leica-zeiss-zm-lenses/
  3. Welcome to the forum, if you run a search for X-T2 and sport you will find a lot about the topic interesting you http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/index.php?s=83f3289295af81aad230ffc65e3d2b5e&app=googlecse#gsc.tab=0&gsc.q=X-T2%20sport Anyway, the X-T2 has, yes, improved autofocus performance compared to other previous models BUT this is only possible with the new batteries and new grip, making the camera from a very small camera a much bigger affair and certainly NOT as small as other cameras. The performance in high ISO of the Fuji cameras is questioned by some http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/topic/4281-is-it-just-me-or-the-lowish-light-files-are-too-noisy/ and it might very well not be your thing, I can’t decide for you, again, search for “ high ISO” and you will find more http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/index.php?s=83f3289295af81aad230ffc65e3d2b5e&app=googlecse#gsc.tab=0&gsc.q=High%20ISO%20X-T2 Good luck!
  4. This might be determined by the fact that few people (only flash users) have bothered to install this upgrade which, per Fuji info,:” Compatibility with the Shoe Mount Flash EF-X500" contains only Flash related matters. Many users, like me, don’t really do any flash photography and for us, this upgrade was totally irrelevant.
  5. well, don’t forget that this is not marketed as being the sharpest lens on the market. For that I can use the 60 macro which is really sharp to the point that comes with a warning when you take pictures of people above the age of 10 . The Petzval is called an “ art lens” for good reasons ( and if you see the daguerrotype “ like” lens even more so), you don’t use it for documenting things or scientific photography, you use it precisely for its less than precise performance. However, I think that the bark of the tree in the second picture and some of the leaves in the first are sharp enough even only at f2.8 I’ve done some portraits as well (of people whom don’t like me to show their face) I am pleased with the results, sooner or later I will share some.
  6. Aperture and LR , for example, do that. It is way quicker to do reframing and unless you are shooting completely open, the depth of field will work to your advantage.
  7. A lot of programs do that, of course the thing is that if you use a lens which has no electronics the whole thing doesn’t work, besides, if you, instead of positioning the focusing point on the place where you wnat to position it just move the camera form one place to another holding the focus, this will show somewhere else that you really pointed it at.
  8. So, the XT20 name has been registered , which, I supposed, will be a slightly tuned down version of the X-T2, like the X-T10 was compared to the X-T1. Until when will we have to wait to see the X-E3, a camera like the X-T20 but with a rangefinder style architecture? I wonder. I suppose that this late introduction of cheaper models essentially featuring the same characteristics as the X-T2 and X Pro 2 is now a pattern.
  9. and here a few examples. always F2.8 and NIK post production.
  10. It is also possible that we won’t even see this in Europe and that this would be offered only on the Asian markets.
  11. this was the next widest aperture, f2.8 and a quick shot. I took this with a Lens Turbo II Focal reducer. In the coming days I will acquire another “ dumb” conversion adapter. I am toying with the idea of buying an EF to FX adapter with aperture, in this way I might be able to achieve a different type of result than using the waterhouse aperture plates. About this waterhouse slides, now they have also other slides for their Daguerrotype lens, those slides have different purpose and patterns, maybe it can be interesting to see how this would go together with the Petzval.
  12. Not yet anything meaningful ( I took some at the shop but nothing more, you could tell that the lens is soft at best and that the effect, like for any Petzval thing is visible only under the right conditions) just now, a couple of shots out of my window. I had to promise my wife that I won’t wear a “ beanie” while shooting with this, it seems to be the official attire for the proper Petzval-Hipster look. I am planing to take some today but the weather is terrible, It has been a stormy night the morning is not promising . As for the look, the black version looked cheaply lacquered, to me, and it is also €100 more expensive. ( look here@petzval_58_black_and_brass_v2.jpg) How the look of both lenses is going to old up in time is questionable. I have a considerable experience with saxophones and unlacquered brass tends oxidate and lacquered brass wears the lacquer out. But black lacquer over brass will show scratches. It would have been better if they would have patinated the brass black or used anodized aluminum.
  13. After having looked at the lensbaby option I was so disappointed by that that I then decided to look into buying “ the real thing” and I’ve bought a Petzval 85. Not a 58 but a 85 ( which required also an lens turbo adapter) in the Canon version ( they don’t make it Fuji). There is a world of difference between this and the lensbaby. It feels very solid. There is a minute wiggle but it is nothing compared to the one on the lensbaby!
  14. So, I pulled the trigger on this lens. I bought a brass version ( really I don’t understand the black version, which is also more expensive) and I will be eagerly playing with this the coming days. It feels very nice and robust.
  15. I think they just revived the X-A2 with a new outer body ( slightly modified and new colors) to get rid of old sensors
  16. so, possibly a €499 in the EU. I fail to understand what the difference will be compared to the X-A2 which is still offered at the same price (even their special “ white” edition). If there aren’t any differences or negligible ones, as soon as the X-A10 hits the market the X-A2 will drop in price but they are essentially the same camera!
  17. Today I will try one of these lenses on my X-T1. I will try it with a focal reducer hoping this keeps as much as possible of the original swirl effect. Ideally one could use alternatively the more modern (and practical) 58mm (also part of another thread that I’ve started) unfortunately that one ( and this too) are not available in Fuji mount. So, you need to use a focal reducer to retain the swirl effect and not multiply the focal length to a value that will be placing (for my personal taste) the subject too far. Although the 85 is cheaper than the 58mm, It is not cheap though and still I will have to consider this choice.
  18. I sold my X-E2 non log ago but I’ve used ofter the upgrade with cards that were nothing special. In fact I’ve sold the camera witha very cheap 4Gb card that I had lef from years ago one that was very slow for sure and the camera worked all the same. Re install the software hoping that something went wrong and that installing on top would cure whatever went wrong. you shouldn’t have any of those problems after and firmware upgrade. I didn’t.
  19. Today I decided to go to the shop and try the Lensbaby Twist 60. Wow what a disappointment that was! Not only the lens feels very plasticky ( it is mostly made of plastic after all) but it wiggles like crazy! I had it on a lens turbo II Canon EF adapter, so I thought it was a matching problem. I then tried it on a Canon body, same wiggle. I tried another copy on a Nikon body, same wiggle! I then looked at a composer pro where you could buy the front element too, the coposer pro, unmounted, also wiggles. It is not (only) the from element ( which wiggles too) it is the base, by the ( well made) metal bayonet, the wiggle is there. Very disappointed! I walked out the shop, the sales person said that I didn’t have to see the lensbaby as a serious lens and he inferred that because it is cheap... I tol him that I still respect €260 and that Samyang gives me hell of a well made lens for that kind of money! So, now, back to square one. I am going to try a proper Petzval and see how that goes. Wish me luck.
  20. exactly... I stil read it the same way, maybe I am wrong, only OP knows for sure.
  21. that’s not how I read his post. I think he want to enlarge the view but retain 100% of the image, so that he cam look from a distance having a larger picture.
  22. I wasn’t rude, quite the contrary. But we are all different and that in the end means that one likes a system for what it is, or not. I don’t find the “ waxing” a problem, you do? Very well! In that case, you may very well, politely, make you point and I will equally politely make mine, this is what a forum is all about. Exchanging experiences and ideas. Don’t confuse a discussion with an altercation. In the end we both do what we do and will keep doing it, whether we agree or disagree.
