    Fuji IR

. don't use IR for portraits ;-) by Christoph, auf Flickr :.
  5. My name is Christoph; i live in Basel, Switzerland. I've studied Biology but work as software engineer since many years. I had to learn the theory of fotografy and analog (b&w) processing in school a few decades ago; however, my "passion" for fotografy started not before the arrival of the Fuji X100. I loved and still like very much the simplicity of the X100 with its fixed prime. Anyway i prefer primes, have some fujinons and few legacy lenses (some of them i started to use for film, too, recently). ... measured in time i'm a complete newb and for sure a "dumb" amateur fotografer. In vacation i like to fotograf landscapes. Besides that i always observe my environment and sometimes i find an interesting, strange or funny situation, which i try to frame, be it with people, animals, flowers, things, or just the atmosphere ... Now and then i dare to criticise pictures in forums; i guess this should be ok since we are on a public platform. If you dislike my comments of your pics let me know. Personally i very much appreciate feedback for my pictures - be it negative or positive. watching myself by watcher24@flickr :.
  6. It is NOT an isue here (imho). If sombody likes this "shape" - it IS sharp in its context. Actually i even like the in-motion unsharpness of the foot of the slimmer sister. and last and off-topic: i also like the color contrast of this pic
  7. "We know" already that a 35/2 will come. don't we? And the XF23/2 was the first available Fuji-X lens. However, don't expect to get it uncoupled from X100/s/t. And when it comes to a smaller short tele, there is still the XF60/2.4
  8. I've never owned image stabilize stuff - neither a lens nor a cam. body. This said i don't miss it. However, if i wanted to have IS once, i'd prefer a sensor based IS. IS on the lens makes it bulkier and may decrease its optical performance. IS in body would allow me to use the function with legacy glass too.
  9. I like to photograph when it's raining or snowing. With my first X100 i was quite often outdoors on rainy days. I thought that "a bit" of rain is no problem for the X100. Then, after a rather wet New Year's Eve night - this was more then "a bit" of rain - shutter button and on/off switch unity stopped working reliable; the cam was sent to service and they had to exchange shutter button / on/off switch unity. Since then i've become more cautious using X100 (and later X-Pro1) in rainy situations. This said, i was really glad to hear when it was clear that the X-T1 will be weather sealed. This "feature" amongst others was a good reason for me to exchange my X-Pro1 with an X-T1. Concerning the X-T10: It is a very nice cam! I like it. (I had it in my hands shortly.) I don't think the lack of weather sealing is a deal-breaker. But i won't buy it. (I have more than enough equipememnt.)
  10. I like #4 when i crop it right under the fire. (it also works without the fire.) On #9 probably closing the aperture would habe been more interesting? Again on #13 the out of focus person disturbs (me), but the setting ("<- Nirvana") would have been a great frame! ... and ... if you allow. For me the "descriptions" are not necessary, a title would be sufficient. (as usual only imho)

  12. Drinks are pleasant objects to photograph. They do not run away, and while taking a picture, you enjoy the drink too. You allow me to criticize your picture? Focus aside and DOF too short. And the drink would look nicer with a clean or interesting background. Framing ... hm ... composition, well ... Not sure whether an ultra-wide fits well for a drink. :-) When i take a picture of a drink it's kind of a "finger excercise". If it just was a snapshot which you wanted to share, forget about my critics :-) And don't take it too serious; i'm just sharing thougts.
  13. I was near to buy a set from LEE a few times ... but finally never did yet. When it comes to landscape fotografy and when gradient ND filter is required, i guess a set with a good holder e.g. from LEE is a must. But that's the only use case (imho). Personally i have a bunch of ND Filters from B+W and polarising filters from Zeiss. Since the diameters of my fujinons were increasing +/- with every new lense, i also have filters in different sizes: 52, 58 and 62mm - i even have some with 49mm from my very first X100. Good filters are f.....g expensive, and HOYA would have been good enough too. However, a few in my collections are from HOYA ... which i regret ... because i love the predictable constant colors when combining B+W ND with Zeiss Pol. (When mixing up with a HOYA, it is, for sure, predictable too ... but i prefer to have the same colors when doing a series of pics with different lenses.) But, well, obviously i'm a filter geek :-) If i would start buying filters NOW, i also would buy one for every domain and a few step-up rings. P.S. Never ever buy vario ND filter ... they do not work on the whole range on which they should.
  14. I guess there is plenty of m42 50ish lenses. If it doesn't have to be m42, there is much more. However, the Super-Takumar 1.8/55 i can definitely recommend: Very nice build, for me a haptic dream. Optically also good. Rather small. Rather sharp wide open. Nice bokeh. But, when closed to a certain amount, it shows the saw teeth circles which you may like or not. Depending on age and coating a bit susceptible for flares on back light ... (however i love that). Affordable to cheap. There => https://goo.gl/oWoYfO <= are some samples i took with mine. Whether it is especially good for portraits, i don't know ... i use it more as kind of "fun lens", yet. (see pics) I also have an XF56 ... but the takumar including the "fat" adapter ist smaller and lighter.

  16. Hi Allow me top open another thread. I Don't not want to say the the other sport threads do not contain aesthetic pics, not at all. I just would like to see your sport pictures which emphasize on aesthetics in a certain way. Personally i have only one pic. atm ... what i have in mind is things like ice yachting, frisbee with dogs, the elegance of a boxer or Baguazhang master, ... ... i'd even consider chess as a sport and if you have an elegant thinking chess player :-) ... Be it the aesthetic of a movement, of a piece of sports equipment, the way the sporty animate being interacts with its environment ...

  18. I haven't completely understood the relation between "vintage" and sooc (straight out of the cam) JPGs. Sure ... most of the people in earlier days just sent their films to Kodak or fujifilm and received a bunch of picture ... ... but even then some people were able to do furter processing. however ... I like the one with the Peugeot ... well taken detail with very nice colors. Thematically the 1st one is very vintage. The position of the curtain (?) is nice ... but the whole picture appears a bit lifeless to me, and this "big fridge" (or whatever it is) in the background is disturbing. It doesn't touch me. The train station looks very arbitrary for me ... but i'm sure you feel different about. When i take a picture of a train station i was there, know the story (in which i was involved when i was there) ... this "personal feeling", the special atmosphere of a station is hard to "transport" to the visitor of the pic. On trainstation, i often take a picture which contains some people too ... but that's not everybodies approach and prbly. you wanted to emphasize the lonesomenesson such a station. The bugatti is a nice car ... very vintage ... the backround ... hm ... rather not.
  19. Smokers in interesting light are very interesting subjects to take pictures of, at least for me ;-) On this series i like the processing most. The first headshot is also not bad ... ... the others look very posed. (just my opinion ... nevertheless thanks for showing)
