Mike K got a reaction from Drew in Fuji 100-400mm Received Today 1st Impressions
I ordered the new Fuji 100-400mm from Amazon DE last Friday and it was delivered this morning.

It was a grey rainy day today, really not great for photography. In any event, I immediately mounted the lens on my X-Pro1 and tried a few random shots around here.

    Very briefly, my first impressions:
Image quality is outstanding. Hand held at 1/15sec or 1/20sec is no problem, the OIS works beautifully, there's no motion blur, images are pin sharp. Auto focus is silent & relatively fast  -I need to still try this on moving subjects.  I'm doing a safari in Botswana in early April, it will be a good opportunity to test the lens properly.
I've been waiting for this lens, so I could make a final decision on selling my Leica R APO 280mm f4. After a couple of hours of playing, the decision's been made, the Leica is going tomorrow...

Images are all straight out of camera Jpegs no PP:

    #1- Hand held  1/15sec f5.6 ISO 200 @ 100mm

this shows, once again, that photographs, just like any other form of real art, shouldn’t aim at reaching an illusory form of technical perfection but they are worth as much as the emotions which they are able to awaken in our souls.

If one isn’t moved by this other WPP picture... then I don’t know what would! You could have taken this picture with any decent camera. John Coltrane the great saxophonist said, you can play a shoestring, if you are sincere!

Mike K reacted to CRAusmus in Poll: How do you use viewfinder, display, menus?
I don't think I've ever changed the focus point.  I just focus and recompose.  Been doing it ever since I started photography.  I really don't understand why people move the point around, when it is so easy to just recompose.  If I need to change the way my camera focuses, I change my mode, but I always have the point as small as possible and dead center.

Mike K reacted to fordfanjpn in Poll: How do you use viewfinder, display, menus?
A recent thread on the change Fuji made to the way menus display depending on the display mode you're in caught my interest primarily because I never realized before that some people apparently make frequent access to menus in the middle of shooting. This seemed strange to me because when I bought my camera I went through the menus to set it up the way I wanted, and after that the only changes I ever make are shutter speed and aperture. So except for formatting cards, after the camera is set up I rarely ever see the menus again. In other words, I'm pretty much shooting like I would if I was shooting film. Load it and go.

So this got me wondering how other people use their cameras. Since the forum doesn't seem to allow for polls, this one is informal. Which of the following shooting styles most closely resembles the way you shoot.

    1. VF only / frequently access menus
    2. VF only / rarely (or never) access menus
    3. Eye Sensor / frequently access menus
    4. Eye Sensor / rarely (or never) access menus
    5. LCD / frequently access menus
    6. LCD / rarely (or never) access menus
    7. Something else I didn't think of

If you're someone who frequently dives into the menus in the middle of shooting, I'd be interested in knowing what kind of changes you make on-the-fly.

Incidentally, this is not intended to incite a riot, I'm just honestly curious about how other people shoot. And hopefully I'll learn something as a result.

I would far rather buy a functional camera than one with unfinished firmware loaded with bugs. I love the idea of Kaizen, however, and am happy to be an early adopter. Use firmware updates to add and refine features as they are developed, not to just swat bugs like CaNikon.

    What's wrong with the 100T ?
I'm just coming to the end of a 3 week trip to Cuba
Shooting for my gallery sales so results are critical
    I've been using 2 XT1. and an 100T
All have performed faultlessly as they always have
I sell many pictures using this system and love it
I came from a background of Leica and Nikon and will never go back
I'm sat in the hotel reading all this and have to conclude some people may be better getting out their and using the cameras instead of trying to pull them apart when a little niggle annoys them
I've pre ordered 2 Xpro 2's and I'm sure there will be many saying oh I don't like this or that or why did they put that button there !
But I wouldn't mind a bet that I will be shooting consistent results with it from day one
Just go and shoot guys that's what you bought them for isn't it ?
    Ps
Forgive me for not posting Cuba pics yet but Internet here is rather challenging

I like it, too. I mean, it's mandatory, anyway. If you set the camera to Viewfinder ONLY, everything MUST appear in the viewfinder and nothing can appear on the LCD. I know several people complained about the LCD going on when they pressed the menu button, and it's also bad for folks who need reading glasses but shoot w/o them with the viewfinder: they couldn't see the menu on the LCD very well. They'd have to locate and put on their glasses first. Or they'd have to switch from OVF to EVF, then press the menu button, change the desired menu setting, then switch back to the OVF. Pretty inconvenient, especially for quick Fn-button-induced settings changes like changing the DR. These things need to happen fast. Most affected users probably didn't even know that the EVF behavior was different from the OVF behavior. Very inconsistent. So this bug (or user interface inconsistency) was fixed in the X100T and X-Pro2.
