You should be choosing your camera body independently of 'the deal' you may be able to enjoy. Which camera would you rather own? Lenses, you'll find you acquire them here and there as you continue with your hobby.

Thanks Michael, solid and objective info there. ----------------------------------------------------- Perhaps off-topic, but I'll share it anyway. As one who normally wears corrective lenses to drive, but has a relatively strong left eye, I've always been in the habit of taking my glasses off and shooting 'left-eyed'. (These modern cameras with built-in diopters are a great aid to people like me, incidentally.) So I've never gotten along with Nikons, the requirement to have the film advance lever pulled back a notch to activate the light meter put me off them ages ago, never mind they focus in the wrong direction. With the X-T2 shooting left-eyed is easy (that EVF is nice to use, I gotta say) and the camera just delights me, whether it be in employing it to take pictures or scrutinizing those images later. If I ever want or need 'more sharp' images, I'll get a mortgage on the house and get a bigger format camera. It would, in all likelihood, be a Fujifilm camera - they're not perfect, but every one of them I've owned has delighted me.

That's an intriguing response, please elucidate. I realize that 'no rectilinear distortion' is probably a simplistic, subjective overstatement on my part. However, after shooting with the lens for four or five months now - and with an eye for architecture (even though I don't spend my time taking square-on pictures of brick walls) I don't think it's an exaggeration. I didn't make my judgment from the EVF or the little screen on the back, so much as the results I see on my computer screens. And while I'll grant that at the 55 mm end of the zoom range, there's a suggestion on pincushioning, nowhere in the zoom range - particularly at the 16 mm end, where I find myself using it most often - have I been able to identify any barrel distortion. And (perhaps because I'm an old fart who doesn't grasp modern technology) I fail to understand how the image that the lens transmits - be it in-camera or in-jpeg (new terminology, OK?) can be evidentially 'different' in terms of what's being passed through the glass to the 'film' plane. Just my 2 cents. If your wife enjoys landscape photography, why are you thinking of a 'telephoto zoom' type lens, more suitable for sports? Would strongly encourage you to consider the 16 - 55, IMHO an awesome lens - and as weatherproof as the camera body, I do believe. You can find reviews of it, here.

I have a question. Why is it that - according to one member here, not that I disagree with his premise - Tapatalk add-ons from those using their phones to respond to threads are annoying and unnecessary. Yet that same member gets to repeat his lengthy complaint, repeatedly, sticking it in our faces far more frequently than those Tapatalk contributors who more often than not probably don't realize what they're imposing on others by doing this. People need to get a life. And a sense of perspective.

Totally agree. I'm delighted that I 'spent the extra' and got the 16 - 55 f2.8 lens. And I'm a guy who used a bag full of prime lenses with my Canon 35mm film cameras for years and never thought I would go back to zooms. The two key reasons for getting this lens were the fixed aperture throughout the zoom range, and I've always preferred a 24mm over a 28mm - this lens provides the equivalent angle of view, while also working very well as a portrait lens and everything in between. Sharp, sharp, sharp. Excellent even wide open, super light transmission even shooting against the sun, no rectilinear distortion, marvelous colour rendition; I've never been more pleased with a piece of glass, and I've owned some very good cameras and lenses over the years. Sure, it's heavy and comparatively bulky, but even that's a positive when it comes to steady hand-held shooting. I love this lens, did I say that?

Sounds like a super vacation, I'm jealous! Italy is on my bucket list. That said, while you're getting overheated in the Med, I'll be in Ireland enjoying Dublin and Galway so I guess it's all good.

Well the X-T2 comes with a mini-flash that I assume is designed primarily to activate any slave unit, though probably one that's designed specifically for the SB-700 would be a good choice. In another thread here, I recall seeing some users reporting that sync works best at 1/200 rather than 1/250 in many cases.

I'm no expert, but my strong advice from reading these forums and personal experience is that the X-T2 is kind of a battery pig. Comparatively speaking, USB plug-ins are for mobile phones. And you want two of the best batteries available for your X-T2, the one in the camera and the other fully charged one in your pocket or whatever as backup.

Thanks for the update. Squeaky camera gets the grease, so to speak. Can you imagine what it's like actually designing and constructing one of these things in the first place?

I know little about this, but wonder if it's possible, instead, that he has a defective Lightroom? Just speculating. Meanwhile, and separately, I note that various 'issues' various participants report here seem to be associated with using their cameras in multi-speed applications; not sure if I framed that right, but capturing a large number of images in a short space of time is what I'm getting at. If indeed this is the essential issue, then would it be associated with the CPU (or whatever it's called these days), the ability of the camera to multitudinously (new word, OK?) process everything pretty much simultaneously? ------------------------------------------------------------- I'm also interested in this from a personal viewpoint, as I'm seriously contemplating purchasing Lightroom in order to best process my X-T2 raw images. What I know about a Mac or any other fruity computer would fit on the head of a pin. But as I understand it, you MUST download the Firmware upgrade to an empty formatted card - then put the card directly in your camera and upgrade from the info now on the card; it appears that you're trying to go through a different process, and I don't think that's possible.

In my opinion, if you buy the 16 - 55 f2.8 you'll never look back (though you may then lust for the 50 - 140 f2.8 just to complete things in two perfect zooms). As a 'senior' photographer (so to speak) my main reason for owning my last three Fujifilm cameras is their exceptional lens quality; and I never thought I would find myself using zooms again, until now.
