  1. Good Evening, I used ISO 3200 the other day! With the difference in just about everything is the only thing in common the fuji name Maybe the X Series maybe a consumer feeder to the big boy on the marque I cannot see the geegee affecting X Series sales Having progressed to the XPRO2 via Fuji Compact to Bridge to XA1 etc. I never saw them in competition. It was need for a better quality to do what I required and opportunity ( money to progress ) Double the performance in autofocus of the XS1 & range of HS50 etc with a 2017 sensor processor etc. and the argument to buy the long glass of the is harder to make. I am fairly certain each lens/body will be expected to stand alone in the contribution to the company profits and little credence is given to filling gaps or making a faster lens unless projected sales justify it Suffering from GAS, when I have acquired what works for me it sticks, my car is 25 and has wheels at each corner that turn The camera market has been sustained by remarkable quality/cost strides. We had a northerly wind two weeks ago driving high seas across the pier, the number of photographers straining & braving the elements with class gear to get there own shot of the big wave in futility crashing into Victoria Mighty Engineering was a sight to be seen. Ten years ago they would have been content to buy a professional taken & framed memory. The well heeled amateur may run to x series - the geegee is a horse of a different ilk. The competition is from a different direction. best regards David
  2. Good evening huh - good thinking & interesting , however as TIKUS points out the natural sensor size may as well be used, would it not be wonderful that instead of having the cut done within camera the viewfinder showed the output frame required in the viewfinder recording all the detail as u may want to move it a bit to the left or right, up a bit , down a bit then when u got it press a print/save format button David
  3. Good evening, Date about 7th March or later meet Entebbe - anybody have a plan or want to meet up Moses is our professional guide David
  4. Good evening, This may be slightly off topic As per the posts above I really think Security is a problem tourists prefer not to think about Being a professional traveler I assure all that it should be the first consideration. Every trip should risk assess the situation on the ground and the protection offered. Prior experience in the area maybe vital. When travel to Africa security is on the table with the itinerary and there is always a fallback plan if where we are going becomes untenable - even if this means the voyage is abandoned ( very rare but the trigger level has to be preset ) Hired in local people may be quite callous when incidents happen expecting people to know the risks. best regards David if fuji shooters require heads up particular to Uganda or Zambia send me a private message Always assess your gov advice
  5. Good day, The XF 18 - 55 & a couple of spare batteries If you have no use for the lens afterwards consider the XC 16 - 50 as the quality is fine & save the cash & a little weight If security is going to be a concern camping overnight etc. I would leave my primary equipment at home and rely on the XT20 & XC 16 - 50 Consider where you going to secure your primary camera when on the trail! David David
  6. have camera, will travel, you are correct, it is a dream destination my excuse is to see the animals in the wild before the wild has been swallowed however Uganda seems to be doing a good job of keeping it still no plan yet so if anyone wants to join would be good
  7. Good morning, Africa Safari requires long lens - my present set up is Fuji X Pro 2 with 100 - 400 lens and then 2 times converter when taking small birds then a 27mm lens for the XPro2 Panasonic DMC LX5 for landscapes etc. Very careful about changing lens in the great dusty outdoors However if I want to carry a second interchangeable lens camera will take the X E2s with the 18 to 55 zoom then no lens changes are needed Went for a couple of years with the X S1 which was a great solution My route from XS1 to the ZOOM 100 to 400 passed through the XC 50 to 230 which I did not regret Will be off to the Pearl of Africa in a month or so to get away from the English Winter Bird watching is amazing at Entebbe Hope you find your optimum solution Taking the photo and having the experience is for me more important than the photo! David
  8. Good morning, Anybody up for a photo safari 2nd half of Feb - Uganda - Basis independent travel & share costs of Driver Vehicle etc. David
  9. Location wise this is now a no brainer bright shiny XT10 bundled with the 18 - 55 XF or 16 - 50 XC and then save up for 100 - 400 lens trouble getting a second hand fixed - ha - and camera second hand gear is over priced on the belief people look after the gear! there is always a reason for sale! - and with fuji it is not quality David
  10. ? - I picked up the XPRO1 with two lens for 500 UK Pounds last xmas. (new ) Its a brill camera got the x2es + 18 - 55 for less than you are quoting for the xt10 seems your prices are a little high best of luck
  11. Anybody up for Uganda Photo Trip Jan 17? No programme yet - free to suggestions David
  12. At the long end there is only 1 stop in it, easily taken care of with the iso - my outdoor photography u either have light or you do not, I have the xc and quality of photo is great - for double the money I would want more than an fstop different and an aperture ring, get the xc and save up for the 100 to 400! there is an xc group on flickr, respectfully suggest look at the photo quality there
  13. back from Safari - 2x Converter + 100 to 400 was no problem - this fellah normally sings at you from inside a bush!
  14. I am not going to drop it intentionally, scruffed the screen on my xpro 1 by letting it sit on the car shelf, was not happy at my carelessness, but won't cry as i use the viewfinder! if a do bust it its time for an upgrade! cases - do like them to pose with but normally have a telephoto so umph
  15. I am back - great journey www.flickr.com/photos/davidthompson444/
  16. Hello, X Pro 1 with 18 to 55 on front & X E2s with a 100 to 400 + 2x converter. Also have primes 18, 27, 35 60 for occasional use and a X A1 with the XC Zoom Lens which is redundant now. Next Safari will take the XE2s & zoom and the 27mm - but will not look to be changing lens in the field. And this all came from the XS1 which is still in use in the family.
  17. Good morning, Day one is getting closer, my gear will be a Fuji XE2s with a 100 to 400 lens and a 2x converter for the bright midday period whilst for landscape a pany dmc lx 100 to avoid lens changes in the bush got the converter two days ago and found no slow focusing problems on centre spot hoping to see Cheetah at Kidepo National Park The vehicle is a toyota hiace with a lifting roof to take the photos out of as one should avoid being eaten! David
  18. The great outdoors requires a long lens, somethings you just don't get too close too, waterfalls, bridges, safari animals, 100 - 400 is it! Zoom is the thing unless you know what you are doing before you do it! Then have a prime!
  19. well it goes up in the world with time - a couple of years back I had great shots with the XS1 - then moved to a XPRO 1 with the 50 to 230 which was noticeably better for focus & actually larger prints, now a X2Es with the 1.4 & 100 - 400 next week I am looking at the 2.0 as UK birds are that small and stay that far away. Off to Uganda on Safari again and really looking forward to taking the 100 to 400 - the only question will be what converter to leave on! You rarely get that close to wildlife in nature! Light will be the main consideration the 2x + 50 to 140 zoom I do not have but I am sure they will give good results - the 100 to 400 will be much better as it is made for it! David

  21. Good evening, have you been yet, wonderful holiday choice Single Point Aperture Priority Wide Open you may have to ramp the dynamic range up for black and white birds etc. control exposure with the + - dial have a great time David
  22. Fuji spent a fortune on those auto programmes for the scenes, you bought them as part of the gear & that is no cheat to use! in- fact - recommended! As is copying, nothing wrong with bookmarking Rico flickr, thats what he put it there for, I bet his how to books are an easier read than the infernal pdf manual! Did u get the xc 50 - 230 bundled as well? Milandro is not wrong, I have used it on safari! http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidthompson444/23893105884/in/datetaken/ this hawk has what you want!
  23. Good Afternoon. I recently purchased the XPRO1 and have a lesser problem preferring the left eye for camera work To use the left eye is little problem, my nose ends up at the screen however my right eye works well enough with the Optical View Finder I can also see enough (fuzzy wuzzy) to frame the photo and to see the green frame or cross to indicate focus still learning the camera but really enjoying it! I sincerely hope your vision does not deteriorate Just as the the camera's computer aids in determining exposure etc. it will aid with the focus etc. and I wish you many years of photo pleasure David
