  1. Good evening, One wonders what the market for fuji is going to be - they were popular in UK outlets like dixons but are no longer on much display, what of the Fujifilm FinePix HS50 & S1 which no-longer are on display, the XS1 is still obtainable at Dubai Duty Free which has a good display of older X interchangeable & instant cameras ( Duty Free is always later than camera specialists ) Is Fuji going to be a three line outfit? - small compacts, instants & x series APC David
  2. Good evening, it is now in my hands and it is great I am suprized how fast the focus is and how well the stabilization works for hand held its not a rumour anymore! https://www.flickr.com/photos/davidthompson444/26586875301/in/photostream
  3. Good evening, fantastic choice of camera and lens, Its got to be auto first, Fuji spent umteen hours getting the auto right, next step for scenes where auto just will not do - aperture priority or shutter priority only when they will not do, play with both dials at once! and when you have pressed to many buttons - press the reset haha you will find it real easy in the end focus is the hard bit!!!!! or maybe its exposure --------- is the film simulation right ----------- composition really really enjoy
  4. Gear, love it, just got the XPRO1 with 2 lens for 500 UKP at Crimbo - Set a target price of 400 pounds for the XT1 purchase
  5. Presently our cameras are evolving quicker than they are ageing, they are discarded before wearing out, bad news for manufacturers but will we have a plateau shortly?
  6. The images are good, like a movie shot on green screen, it has its place, but not in my photography, and if I was buying an image for the wall, yes, my pictures are memories, framed for my wall, RAW to JPEG to Print or SOOC
  7. Good Evening, the far end is important to me, I am an XS1 fan, paid about a 1000 pounds for it, when the HS50EXR came out compared them both and there was little difference difference in the result, one had a bigger sensor, the other a longer lens, did not check out S1, got the XA1 with a XC 230 lens and that was clearly better, now with the XPRO1 and looking to the 100 - 400 waiting for me I expect a great difference, truth is if Fuji brought out a game changer replacement for the XS1, ie the ability to bring small birds close on Safari and be able to crop in,as well as take good landscapes i might buy it, it would save taking two cameras round the world, I have not checked the sony out, it has a 1in sensor which makes it a straight competition for an XS2 - will they make it - or duck out of the market? chasing the IQ is not everything! its also the moment
  8. Good Afternoon, After purchase of the X Pro 1 in the recent fire sale I find I am actually closer to birds with the 50 to 230 XC than the XS1 at full zoom. I intend taking the XA1 & 27mm lens to avoid changing lens on my forthcoming Safari and retiring the XS1. I will buy the new lens eventually but would not have gone down the present road if the XS2 was in the hand. The XC ... was bundled with the XA1 a year ago but I really need a viewfinder to use it. I will buy the new lens but not at once, I will see if the long awaited XS2 becomes a reality before deciding finally. David
  9. 37,000 feet, stars & the earth, brilliant, not seen an image like that before, I am astonished the plane is so steady David
  10. Good morning, You have to leave the shutter open long enough for light to react on the "darker" regions of the photo/recording area maybe dynamic range should be considered at the same time, if a maximum sensitivity from light to dark is aimed for the brightest part should be near the highest reaction voltage of the sensor whilst at the shadow end differences in light falling onto the sensor should still be distinguished, to my thoughts this may not be achieved if you dramatically under expose the plate as we are not taking advantage of the higher voltage part of the sensor. The shadow end is compressed into a smaller voltage difference. If underexposing consistently was the complete answer the Camera Chip ( taking in JPEG ) internal converter RAW to JPEG would use it, multiplying the total plate brightness or stretching the recorded range ( contrast ) hard subject! best regards David
  11. my problem - exactly, the XC 50 - 230 does not quite have the range - the XS1 still competes with the rest due to its sensor, processor and quality lens - tried the longer lens eg HS50 but they do not preform better than the XS1, the other long lens are 1 - 2/3 sensor and end result no better than the XS1 = tried the Samyang 300 but it was manual focus - at end of day no better than the XC zoom. I wait now = for the XF100 to 400 or the XS2 ------------------ traded the samyang 300mm at a loss as part payment against the XF35 - if gaining experience is a loss - u can profit by it uk i play with changing lens - on safari in Africa i only pack the XS1
  12. Maybe this is related to the commission of an XS1 replacement! ie 1 inch sensor within 3 month Market for both? who knows = but puts my plans on hold David
  13. Greetings, I wander, home is the UK & appreciate taking photos in Africa, had cameras for many years & learnt with a Zenit and have had different Fujis for a long time, ( + the odd Pany ) now use the XS1 & XA1 with a finepix F300 EXR in my pocket, - the XS1 is my main camera, in spite of having several lens for the X-A1 it goes out with one lens that will not be changed! see my photos on flickr - davidthompson444 - believe it is hard to buy a bad camera - maybe not so hard to buy a wrong one! hope all enjoy digital photography with as much please as it has given me David
  14. Good afternoon Panasonic FZ 1000 or SONY RX 10 competition if a fixed long lens? The P900 is a whopping 83x telescope with a 1 - 2/3 sensor behind i think i read Nikon have interchangable lens system based on the 1 in standard if think i read the specs. right - with an 800mm equivalent lens! What goal for the fuji? David
  15. Good Evening, Sensors are always an interesting subject, the 1 in is twice the area of the XS1 2/3 & about 1/3 of the size of the APS-C 3 yrs younger than the XS1 performance / area would be expected to be better and then you have to think of the size of lens that you have to front the camera with to gain the 600 odd equivalent mm Its not going to be small ! The XS1 comes in at about a kg most interesting and IQ for me is not the problem - I often print to A3 but no bigger and they are not for looking at with a looking glass but to be slapped on the wall behind glass the faster auto focus - better manual focus - higher low light sensitivity - they would be higher on the agenda quite prepared then to carry two cameras - never fancy to swop lens in the field - if the wide angle is not sufficient too much can go wrong! it may be a stop gap until Fuji Perfect the long lens for the XT Series each to their own David
  16. Good afternoon, to be logical would you replace the X30 with a camera based on a 1in sensor? why? the XQ2 is new if you don't want it for the XS1 postulate - purpose of a forum and anyway - I want an XS2 would be good for some - like me David David
  17. If one considers the x series as a quality mark rather than a particular mount or sensor, examine the marque and a long lens is missing, simplistically putting the XT10 behind a XC 50 - 230 or XF zoom with a 1in sensor you then get equiv. +/- 600mm to replace the XS1, just means carrying 2 cameras, 1 long zoom & 1 short zoom which is now a viable option, rather than 1 and a bag full of lenses, and how many photographers go out with 2 now anyway = just a thought!
  18. you are so right about how dusty a camera gets after a day on dirt roads, but it can be addition to rather than instead of system cameras - let fuji judge what they can turn a coin on - they are well into other niche markets and a better super-zoom than the XS1 would blow a lot of DSLRs out - I used a 500 sigma with nikon body from Pangolin Photo Safari in Botswana and I just could not carry that gear around the world - and few safari companies are out there that lend you gear! I really like my 50mm lens & X-A1 but they are for a different job!
  19. I have the XS1 & X A1 and would buy an updated XS2 with faster auto-focus = imho the XS1 is a great all in one camera for travel in Africa ( & other spots ) and without a long lens the system cameras do not replace it = would love to take pictures of birds in flight = when I tried the HS50EXR the birds were no closer when you compared the photos with those of the XS1
