  1. I wouldn't trust any portable solar charging solution in the wilderness, unless the trip plan involves camping above the cloud layer.
  2. Moonlit pines. X-T1, XF14mm @ f/8, 15 minutes from the tripod.
  3. Added a dedicated RSS feed, if anyone interested. *feeding crickets to the birds*
  4. "Optical quality is 5 out of 10". Dude is rather optimistic, I'd say it's more 3 out of 10 by 2015 standards, or marginally better than a cellphone with "telescopic" gizmo. Besides, you shouldn't use a 600x1.5 lens for the reach, its intended use is it to blow up relatively close objects like birds. That's where a built-in extension tube comes in handy.
  5. Ouch, I won't call this damage "minimal". Please use a weight hook on that tripod next time you shoot in the wind. Keep us posted on how the repair goes!
  6. You're not going to get stellar results with adapted superteles, period. Just a bunch of expensive glass to lug around. Do yourself a favor and get a mirror lens, such as Samyang 300/6.3 in Fuji X mount. It's lightweight and as sharp (if not sharper) as any adapted 400/5.6. I do not recommend using anything longer than 300mm on APS-C cameras if you're not an expert shooter.
  7. Have a closer look at the fishing tackle boxes. There are some lightweight and affordable ones out there that have cells with a perfect fit. Another option (same store probably) is a small firearms mag pouches, like for the Ruger 10/22 stock mags.
  8. It should work (that's what I use for YN flashes). Make sure you've set it to TX mode, not TRX. Also check that you don't have ES or MS+ES enabled, as it disables any flash.
  9. Clamp your camera to the nearby branch and use a remote to trigger it. With nesting robins, you can easily go full scale studio, including strobes. Just make sure that your gear is poop resistant
  10. Gotta love forums. – After a short run on highway 85, my car stopped and won't turn back on. There's a clicking noise coming from under the hood, black smoke and some flames. Just a little, I haven't tried to put them off yet. Oh, and it also leaks gasoline. – Oh dear, oh dear, I've been driving on highway 85 too! I hope it won't happen to me!…
  11. The main benefit is an optically impossible DOF/FOV ratio, which looks somewhat like a 14mm f/0.002. But you're right, X-T1 doesn't do anything that particularly benefits this effect (which is also known as bokehrama).
  12. Somehow we still don't have a dedicated panorama thread, so let's start one! Objects In Space by Trenton Talbot, on Flickr (X-T1 in-camera 360 pano, polar in PS) Anything panoramic goes – as long as it's been stitched. Multi-rows, little planets, bokehramas, everything.
  13. Looks very interesting, thanks! However, it seems that their system is only compatible with their own Arca-compatible plates. You can mount their plate on your Arca head, but you cannot use your own, for example, RRS L-bracket.
  14. Just outside of my apartment complex. X-T1, XF 14mm.
  15. Added more mirrors/crossposters: on Tumblr, Filckr – and of course, my own Facebook page. Still waiting for Sella174 to join the club Anyone else?
  16. Most scenic weather events (dew, fog, rain, hail etc) that require a waterproof camera typically have one thing in common: the light level is low.
  17. Why not X100U then (U for Underwater)? Something in a ballpark of Nikonos V, but with HVF and much more compact…
  18. NB: I've added an automated Livejournal crosspost. Does anyone actually use the Livejournal in 2015?!
  19. Some people like to abuse a Clarity slider even on portraits. Then DR400 starts to look bad indeed…
  20. Yes, that would be very in the spirit of original X series if manual controls had an absolute priority… but we are already in an awkward Nikon Df territory with 1/32000 shutter speed (and a way to set it), aren't we?
  21. I regularly consider the idea (on paid assignments I typically wear not just a belt but Steroid one))… and quickly discard it for aforementioned reasons. If only someone made an Arca-compatible belt clamp…
  22. That's a lot of random stress on a tripod mount. It's been designed to withstand a push/pull force, not a constant wiggling with substantial leverage.
