  1. I think it's good idea, if you like prime lens more. I'd recommend to spend a week with 18-55mm "locked" in 35mm to simulate that before you try.
  2. Yes, it would be interesting to try 50mm 1.4 + booster combo. I think that will give totally diferent and also very nice looking pictures. The main pros of choosing ZSM for me are: - focus ring is closer to camera, so more convenient to operate - optical formula is optimized for 35mm, so better optical corrections and overall IQ - 9 aperture blades there are many other differences, but they are not so important, so I mostly "overpaid" for things listed above : )
  3. I'll have that option on Thursday, if not resolve with seller earlier. I've called the store this morning and spoke to store owner. He promised to personally investigate the origin of the lens with SN: 48A1.... . It was very polite and friendly conversation, I explained all details and concerns. I hope they'll discover what went wrong soon. I've discovered similar situations online, and looks like it's the not the worst scenario that could happen. You may see "lens imitation cups" on the market that looks close to the lens. So one buyer returned "open box" to some store with fake lens imitation, claiming he received it instead of lens. I'm glad that I received at least real and fully functional lens : ) I can understand the dealer, they do many transactions each day, and may often have troubles like that. So they also have right to defend their point. It does not sound true that they checked the SN, because if it was "cheating return" they missed that twice. That makes me worry. However I still hope they'll find who made a mistake, or maybe cooperate with Fuji US SUpport to trace the lens to its latest owners.
  4. To understand ZSM 35mm 0.95 II lens better I'm following old approach noticed in many lens review articles - using only single lens for some time. 3-4 weeks of daily shooting with single lens helps to discover its potential, and figure out if you like it. BTW, I've contacted seller from Hong Kong. He was very kind and checked other 2 lens samples for me - all have similar slight shift of aperture blades. Obviously it's not Zeiss or Voigtlander mechanics, so aperture blades are not perfectly centered. Good to know it's not a defect, but just build tolerance. And it's not an issue for me : ) Meanwhile I mostly like to use f/0.95 - f/2.8 range for most shots.
  5. Awesome guide, thanks for sharing! Very impressed to see that dark textolite boards are used.
  6. Very good to know about 120 days, thank you! Unfortunately I've paid directly from credit to PayPal, so don't have this second protection. Can only file a credit claim. I always pay for eBay over PayPal, but its new UI is a bit confusing. This time it happened again - I logged into PayPal, and selected credit card directly, instead of selecting top PayPal option and then choosing credit card. So now this transaction is not shown in PayPal and I can't file claim there. About the SN, unfortunately box has separate SN. Seller checked it in database and confirmed they sent me the lens with such SN (like on box and in receipt). And he says that before shipping he checked lens SN as well (which is not true). These different SN - are the most tricky part here. Otherwise I'd just make simple eBay return. Thanks again for help and useful suggestions.
  7. Thank you very much! I forgot about this option. I've filed credit card claim, hope it will help to proceed with successful return and refund.
  8. Thank you all for comments and good words. I opened eBay case right after noticed damage. And later realize SN is different. Hope to do return and get full refund. Wish you all never get into such situation. And yes, it's always good to check SN first before checking the lens itself, even if it's Fuji Dealer.
  9. Thanks for suggestions. I've already tried to call Fuji US, but they are online on Mon-Fri, so will call them again on Monday. Fuji Support is very responsive, I've recently called them and sent X-T1 for rubber grip replacement, and they did that very fast and for free. That's main reason for me to buy 50-140mm with official warranty. I didn't expect such thing from official dealer. I successfully purchased Fuji lens and cameras from other Fuji Dealers, and everything was perfect.
  10. ! UPDATE ! [Mar 28 2016] - Issue finally got resolved and that official US Fuji Dealer accepted return and sent full refund. --------------------------------------------------- Original post starts here [Mar 18 2016] : I've recently purchased Fuji 50-140mm from one of official US Fuji Dealer. It was good price deal on eBay for "open box" item in "truly mint" conditions, with 1 year US Fuji warranty. Unfortunately I received different lens sample, with damages on the lens body and on the front cap, despite "truly mint" description. But the worst thing - the lens has SN: 48A1.... , and box/receipt have SN: 55A0.... I've contacted store through eBay, and seller representative replied that he personally checks all SN, and the lens I received should have SN: 55A0.... Again, it's official US Fuji Dealer. They sent me wrong sample. And they say "Do you have more than one 50-140? Perhaps that is the source of the confusion.....". I feel very upset. But I'm going to investigate this case with all the possible ways. Looks like SN: xxA.... should be prefix of US models, and I hope US Fuji Support may may tell who was original dealer of this sample. 48A1 looks like very early production. I'm also curious where is the lens with SN: 55A0.... , and what's the point of having it without it's official warranty. What would you recommend to do further in such situation? What would you do in case SN doesn't match the item purchased from official dealer?
  11. Looks like not much activity there, so I'm posting the answer : ) I think it'd be higher activity if I could add real poll engine here. SAMPLE 1 - ZSM 35mm II SAMPLE 2 - Fuji XF35mm I'd also add how I detect the difference. I've noticed that things while shooting with Nikkor 50mm 1.4 and 50mm 1.8 lens on same apertures. Despite the artifacts, colors, shadows, contrast, sharpness there is significant difference of how the OOF blurs. Usually faster lens will have more smooth OOF, even if same aperture is set. Here we can observe the same by looking at OOF area. Glad to see that many experienced shooters easily detected XF35mm : ) Thanks for participation and valuable arguments!
  12. Here are full size samples, with JPEG quality 100%, should be no significant artifacts there. BTW, NR is -2 on both shots. I don't observe any halo, can you explain that in more details? Anyway, samples are targeted for subjective comparison, so you did, and it's one of great and detailed feedback, thanks. SAMPLE 1 (full size link) SAMPLE 2 (full size link)
  13. BTW, I've posted such poll on another forum yesterday. So far both samples have similar amount of votes there - about few dozen each : )
  14. Yes, they are SOOC Jpeg, no PP, just resized to 1300px top samples, and also cut 100% crops to compare. I've also purged EXIF by re-inserting JPEG into new file, saved with 90% compression all samples, so the comparison is fair without looking into EXIF. I'll post originals with EXIF later as well.
  15. I think TS wants to find the Leg replacement. I was also confused first by the thread name. It's interesting. I've explored market options of whole packs of "quick release lens collar", and they are all quite expensive. Potentially, it's possible to cut upper area of such leg+collar, then drill 2 holes and put there 2 connection screws.
  16. Following 2 pictures are taken at F1.4 on 2 different 35mm lens + X-E2 : Fuji XF 35mm 1.4 Zhongyi 35mm 0.95 II Do you see any difference? Which image looks slightly better? Which SAMPLE is XF35mm ? I'll post the answer soon, just curious if it's easy to say for experienced XF35mm shooters. SAMPLE1 [F1.4] SAMPLE2 [F1.4] Also 100% crops from each shot: SAMPLE1 crop [F1.4] SAMPLE2 crop [F1.4]
  17. I'd say 700-800 for X-T1 without warranty, and 800-850 for gently used official X-T1 with still valid warranty.
  18. [F1.2] Few shot crops on 0.95, 1.4, 2.8 with backlight reflections. It's visible that aperture blades are not symmetric from the center. It's round on most important values of 0.95-1.4 and then starting to distort its shape. [F0.95] [F1.4] [F2.8]
  19. Like with Fuji 35mm, this lens allows to easily focus on very close distances up to 35mm. That's quite handy. [F0.95]
  20. Well, I think in each case it's subjective reason. Most people buy 35mm alternatives to receive something that XF 35mm 1.4 does not provide. From the perspective of picture you may look for different rendering, DOF, contrast, colors, flare resistance, etc. And from ergonomic perspective it can be: real manual focus, lens size, weight, durability, etc. Also economic reason, or just curiosity. I have XF 35mm 1.4, and plan to keep it - it's very sharp, light, small, and has autofocus. That's nice option for many situations. I personally like how fast and completely silent camera operates with manual 35mm alternative, and I like precise and responsive control of manual focus. I tried different Voigtlander 35mm lens: VC 35mm 1.2 II, VC 35mm 1.4, VC 35mm 2.5. All they are awesome glass, I spent nice time with that lens and made a lot of different pictures. Zhongyi 35mm 0.95 II just surprised me. Its set of POS and CONS in general attracts me more than any other 35mm lens I had chance to shoot with for a long time.
  21. One noticeable flaw with this lens - aperture ring feels almost the same as focus ring. I quite often start rotating aperture ring, and increased DOF in EVF looks like focus is moved : ) Stepless aperture also forces me to look at the numbers each time. I got used to count "clicks" on other manual lens to know which value is selected.
  22. Few shots of the lens itself. It feels just a bit smaller than 18-55 on X-E2 body, though the weight is more noticeable. Comparing to XF 35mm it's longer but slimmer. On that pix the lens is with attached 58mm filter using black vinyl film, so it's about 7mm longer.
  23. That's right, thanks for correction. Nikkor 85 1.8 is also awesome lens. Looks like in terms of same DOF it should be "magic" 0.95 56mm on Fuji then to make same result as FF 85mm 1.4 I never had chance to use Canon lens, but theirs 85mm 1.2 is even more tricky to focus on FF. Fortunately autofocus on Canon and Nikon is not a problem on such fast lens. Manual focusing with Zhongyi 35mm 0.95 is a joy. It has about 60mm diameter focus ring that rotates smooth, very well dampened and takes only 90 degrees from infinity to 0.5m, then about 45 degrees more to 0.35m. On 0.95 focus peaking works better with this lens, but I got used to focus zoom.
