Adam Woodhouse got a reaction from Curiojo in Recommandation for a >85mm landscape lens
I have tried a few different adapters, but have had the best consistent results with K&F Concept.
I have a Fotodiox adapter for Nikon G (has ring to adjust lens aperture on modern G lenses) and it fits and works great on XT1, but does not fit on the XT2. Something about the lens mount on the XT2 is slightly different than the XT1 and the one Fotodiox Nikon G adapter (purchased 2.5 years ago) won't fit. It is very very tight to put on the XT2. So tight, that something isn't right and I don't want to force it. But on XT1 it fits perfect.
The K&F Concept adapters I have for the other mounts (Minolta, Nikon, Canon FD) all fit great on both XT1 and XT2.

I recently got off ebay (for $50) the Minolta 58mm/1.4 Stopped down to F2.8 - F5.6 it is impressively sharp.
I got it to have a F2 portrait lens and its great for that. I shot some landscape/misc stuff a week ago @ F4 and F5.6 and every image was very sharp.
Two thumbs up!
I also have the Nikkor 105/2.5 mentioned above. For a greater focal length its great but DOF is noticeable smaller and thus a bit harder to nail focus.
I haven't posted my personal experiences with the Minolta 58/1.4 but I have posted my experiences with the Nikkor 105/2.5 here -> http://www.adamwoodhouse.info/

Adam Woodhouse got a reaction from cweath in Lightroom for x-trans... seriously?
Would different sharpening settings in LR result in LR looking closer to Capture One?

Adam Woodhouse got a reaction from glospete in Recording Video: Write Error after about 9 seconds
Ya, we need to watch the speeds posted on SD cards as it it typically the READ speed they post, no the WRITE speed. So you may purchase a card that says it is 80mb/s but in fact that is READ when the WRITE may be 40mb/s.
I use the Sandisk 95mb/s READ which has a 90mb/s WRITE ... they cost a little more but prevent any issues.

Adam Woodhouse reacted to Larry Bolch in Lightroom for x-trans... seriously?
Sigh...
The ever recurring thread. It will go on endlessly between those who view images on a pixel level vs those who view images normally. The pixel peepers will become personal and abusive and the photographers will respond in kind. Pixel peepers will fight among themselves over alternate software, each promoting their favourite, with contempt for the others who don't see the difference.
As the thread finally winds down, someone else will blame Lightwave for waxy skin and it will begin all over again.
<sigh>"Sigh"</sigh>

Adam Woodhouse reacted to Jose Carpin in Fuji Birds
Hi folks,
The sunrise did not reach its highest point yet. It was 5:45 AM in the morning and I was already inside the photo hide, where I was waiting for the raptors to come down. I looked up to the dark blue sky and saw a big venue of vultures coming down. Soon, Griffon vultures and Black vultures arrived and start fighting for carrion. The Crepuscular rays didn’t cover the land yet and the dark vulture shapes were dancing in the darkness.
Behind the rocks a red fox appeared timidly, observing the vultures and looking for some carrion to catch. As soon as I saw the fox, all my interest was instantly focused on him. Watching a wildlife documentary is probably the closest experience to being hidden inside of a photo hide while wild animals are behaving in their own habitat.

Adam Woodhouse got a reaction from adzman808 in Too many choices!
I downloaded the demo of X-Transformer and did a batch conversion with default settings to DNG then brought the DNG into Lightroom to test highlight and shadow and sharpening settings. Glad to see it was just like the original Fuji raw RAF file, except starting with a sharper image. I found I could then do a bit more sharpening in LR as desired, but less was needed than normal RAF processing since the image is imported already sharpened. It was pretty slick.
I then tested same batch process with Fuji's endorsed (and free) Silkypix. It has a batch process as well, but the problem was I could only export as TIFF. So when I imported it to LR it was a baked-finished image, so I could not apply the colour profiles in LR. That had to be done before converting to TIFF (as it is simple to do in Silkypix). But I wanted raw capabilities to stay in LR since that is what I'm familiar with and fast at ... plus to jump around to the different Fuji colour profiles to see how the image looks.
For flexibility, the batch X-Transformer to DNG, then import DNG into LR is the winner.
In regards to sharpness and fine detail, I was hard pressed to see a difference between Silkypix and X-Transformer results. Both were great at that.

Adam Woodhouse reacted to RadBadTad in Too many choices!
After doing much searching, comparing, and being frustrated, I've gotten my routine to be based around converting to DNG with X-Transformer, and then processing the resulting files in Lightroom. It's smooth, simple, and relatively painless, and gives the best fine detail I've seen, without the compromises of giving up natural looking colors or an obnoxious workflow (like I had with Photo Ninja).

Adam Woodhouse reacted to Torturro in Too many choices!
Yes. very simple. I upload 500 raf files and get 500 DNG. Thou it takes time. so I do it when I dont need my computer. On my machine (macbook pro 2,16ghz, with 8g ram) it takes approx 1hour for 100 rafs to be converted.

Adam Woodhouse got a reaction from kimcarsons in Colors on iOS...I must be missing something
Did you purchase your iphone new or used? If you purchased it used, there is a good chance it has an aftermarket screen on it due to it being replaced at a non-apple repair centre. The colours will be off. I had one of my phones replaced at an apple certified repair business, but they offered a lower cost screen option which I took. It was not a genuine apple product, but I thought if it did the job, that's fine. First thing I noticed when I go the phone back is colours were slightly different.
