'Reflecting on the Calm, Warm Water'

Yesterday, while enjoying the day at Club Med in Grace Bay, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, I took this photo in the harsh, mid-day light.

I'm not totally sold on Fuji as a landscape camera, but it rocks for seascapes.

Can I ask why you believe it rocks for seascapes but not landscapes? Just curious as the two types overlap quite heavily, I've not had a chance to shoot any seascapes with my kit yet, looking forward to it though!

Sure - it's been said to death, and I don't want to annoy anyone, but briefly, I'm one of the people who does have issues with certain landscape shots in RAW (probably exacerbated due to where I live, where there is a lot of fine, green grasses/foliage, which is kind of a worse-case scenario). It's a bizarre issue though, as it's there on a percentage of shots, and not really a bother on others.

I also live near the sea, and don't have any problems at all with seascape shots, as this type of pattern/texture/colour isn't encountered much. Similarly, I find it's a great street/people camera.

These days, I tend to use my X-T1 for those applications, and leave verdant landscapes to my E-M1. That said, I'm liking Capture One more and more, which seems to play nicer, and I may move back full time to the Fuji at some point.

Fair enough, I wondered whether it was linked to the grass/foliage issues from RAW. C1 is meant to be very good at eliminating this issue and LR has come on a long way since. Perhaps you should give it a go this autumn and see whether its's worth the shift?

I use raw sharpening presets for the XT1 and then adjust masking to eliminate excessive sharpening to sky dtc. Seems to work okay but certainly Lightroom could step up its game, when it comes to Xtrans.

Agreed, and what you said about applying sharpening selectively is key - sharpening slightly OOF areas seems to highlight the problem worse, although it doesn't seem to be as much an issue in C1. I only learned that recently, though. Which sharpening presets do you use - do you mean the LR ones?

    • I never knew the X70 existed! Looks interesting.
    • Equipment: Fujiflim X-M5 (firmware V 1.10). iPhone 15 pro (26.1) I am unable to properly connect my Fujifilm X-M5 to XApp on my iPhone 15 Pro. This setup previously worked without issues, but now the app only supports a basic remote shutter and no longer allows Get or Take mode, which are required for remote parameter control and shooting. I have repeatedly Initialized “FUJIFILM XApp”, re-paired the camera, reset wireless settings, and confirmed the camera is not in airplane mode, with both devices placed next to each other. None of these steps resolved the issue. Also, I am unable to update the camera firmware, as the process always fails with a “connection failed” message. I need clarification on whether this is a known firmware or compatibility issue and what the actual solution is.

    • Last day of autumn 2025. Autumn is gradual. Summer field crops slowly ripening. Cool, longer nights turn into morning fogs. Color (colour) touches here and there taking the place of flowers now resting until Spring. Then, after that slow introduction, Fall is everywhere. Winter is brash, Winter is not at all subtle. Freezing cold days and colder nights. The Sun struggles to get above the horizon. Bare fields, iced over streams and woe (‘Woe!! I say!’) to trees or shrubs holding onto leaves.

      Winter is coming.
    • For some reason, the EV dial setting does not correlate to the EV setting displayed in the viewfinder.  My XT2 used to have parity between settings such that when the dial was at "0", the viewfinder also showed "0".  Has anybody else noticed this?  I've tried a reset of the s/w but no luck.
