Canon FD glass performs in many cases very well on the Fuji-X-mount.

Personally i've tried out FD 55mm 1.2 S.S.C., FD 135mm 2.5 S.C and FD 20mm 2.8.

The FD 135/2.5 usually is sold for just "a few" bucks.

However i've sold them all because they are all rather heavy.

@Watcher24 Nice pictures. You're right they're pretty heavy. The 50 f/1.4 is kind of allright though. But it's nothing like the Fuji lenses. I already tried the 135mm S.C. and still have it around. It's very hard to focus without a tripod though.

i've been using a 50mm f1.4 since day one with the x system. 

 

wonderful lens, excellent bokeh

It would seem like so but I've found that the lens is good enough to get good focus most times. It stood out from the rest of my other FD lenses as it displayed very little CA.

 

I haven't had much success with the FD50 wide open. It tends to be very soft. From F2 onwards, it's more or less ok.

Any ideas which adapter is "better"?

 

Fotodiox, Fotasy, Metabones, Novoflex? The last 2 selling for $99 and a whopping $169!

 

Any feedback is appreciated.

 

What Canon FD 50mm are you using? The normal one or the S.S.C. one. I find the S.S.C. very usable wide open. 

 

I am using cheap Chinese adapters from eBay. No problems yet

I have both the nFd and S.S.C 50mm F1.4. Between the two, I prefer the S.S.C. However, both lenses are soft wide open.

 

I've been using it on my Canon bodies. Only after I saw your pic did I ask myself, "Why didn't I think of that"?

 

Will look at Chinese options also..

Hi all, I get FD 50/1.4, it's cheap but works great. But I sold it because wanted something longer for portraits. Now I get XF 60 and happy with it :) 

FD 50/1.4 works from open aperture but has a little nervous bokeh, and at f/2.8 bokeh is creamy and 3d-look. The following is at f/2.8 (and crop):

I also have the FDn 50mm 1.4 and it's an awesome lens at F2 and above. The other lens that is great is the 24mm 2.8. Super sharp...I love it. Anything over 85mm I think the lenses start to get a bit heavy on the Fuji bodies unless you are going to use a tripod. Especially the 200mm and 300mm. I would look for anything from wide to 85mm on FD great lenses. Some are less expensive than others but great on the Fujis.

I have several old Canon FD lenses, and I like very much to use them with my X-E1... recently i've bought the 55/1.2 s.s.c. (the normal one, not the aspherical). I love so much the creamy background of that lens...

 

Some shoots of my cat @ f/1.2 with lamp light, developed from raw with Silkypix 2.0 by Fuji and then some post production with Silver Efex 2 (tonal control, grain and borders)

 

As soon as I can I will upload also some images with the old but good 35-105/3.5

I have many FD lens. Both FD and nFD. IMHO, The nFD 35/2 is the sharpest one that I have. I see no diff between my nFD and FD SSC 50/1.4. If I had to pick one it would be the nFD for its light weight. For X mount adapters, I am pleased with the Fontasy adapters due to fit. Just the right amount of tightness at the mount on both ends. The metabones seems a bit too tight. Haven't noticed any infinity focus issues.

I use a lot of FD-Lenses as well. My favourite ones with the XE1 and X-pro are the 50 1.4SSC, the 35 2.0, the nFD 24 2.8, the 200 2.8, 85 1.8 (great for portraits..), the nFD 50 1.4 and 1.2, and the 300 4L ( a marvel) plus the latest one and quite special but great: the FL 55 1.2 ... I just like there sturdiness and the smooth manual focusing ....

Hello,

 

Has anyone experienced any trouble focusing the FD 50mm 1.4 SSC at infinity on the XE-1?

 

I use it with the XE-1 and it's great up to about 5-10 meters, but cannot focus much further.

 

I'm not sure if it is the lens itself or the adapter. I have the Kippon FD-FX adapter. I have been wondering about trying a different adapter but I live in Brazil, so acquiring gear is a pain.

 

Any recommendations for other adapter brands?

      Ahh, the infamous brick wall photos… 😀 According to internet lore, if the dng converter does not properly apply the corrections, you can have it apply custom profiles that should work for you. How to do that is waaaaaay outside of this comment’s scope, but there are plenty of sites listed in the search engines that step you through the processes. Best wishes.

      Jerry Thank you very much. That is extremely helpful. It seems that the camera and the lens have the latest firmware update, so it appears that the corrections should be applied automatically. The lens arrived this afternoon and I took some quick test shots, in which the correct lens information appeared in the EXIF files, so that sounds good. I used Adobe DNG converter to convert the Raw (RAF) files, and then opened the DNG files and saved them in PSD format. However, with a beautiful, clear, cloudless blue sky, there were no lines near the edges to check if distortion had been corrected. Another day I plan to photograph a brick wall. Thank you for your help.

      Typically you need to make sure the lens is compatible with the camera, i.e. check the lens compatibility charts for your camera, then make sure the respective firmwares are updated so older issues are resolved. After that, each lens has a manufacturer’s profile which will be embedded into the raw file meta data for the images captured using that lens. From there, it is up to the raw conversion software to apply the lens correction to the image. Different converters do that differently, some automatically, some only if a setting is turned on. For in-camera jpegs, the on-board converter does the corrections automatically, assuming the camera recognizes the lens, it applies a generic profile otherwise. I do not know if that can be turned off or not.

      How does one make sure that Fuji's image correction is turned on to correct barrel and pin-cushion distortion on a GFX 100 or GFX100S when using the GF20-35? Is it only applied to the jpegs and not to the raw files? (I was surprised to discover the barrel distortion on the GF 35-70mm lens.) I normally shoot in raw with jpeg back-up and use the raw files, which I convert either in Affinity Photo 2 when editing with that program or in Raw File Converter Ex 3.0 by Silkypix if I wish to process the image in Photoshop CS6. (Adobe DNG is also a possibility.) Thank you for the help. Trevor
