So, apparently I need an adapter that is 24.3mm (mount to mount). Any longer than that and it wont focus at infinity. The Kipon adapter I currently have looks to be slightly longer (28-29mm), and so this might account for the inability to focus the FD 50mm at infinity on the XE-1. Do you know the length of the adapter that you recommended in the above post? Many thanks in advance for any help.

So it looks like the Kipon adapter I am using has a similar length, mount-to-mount, to the Nikon - FX in your picture: around 28-29mm (I am measuring it using a standard school classroom 30cm ruler! So it may not be completely accurate.) So, perhaps it is the Kipon adapter that is the problem; though I am sure I have seen comments here, or on other forums, that say they have no probs with using the Kipon and the FD 50mm 1.4 for the XE-1. I wonder if Kipon does different length FD-FX adapters. It would seem a strange thing to do. Do you know of any FD-FX adapters that are the correct length and would allow me to focus at infinity? Great tips. Thanks! Getting stuff delivered to Brazil is a real pain though, so I may have to wait a while. Plus, you're right, I need to find out if the lens is at fault before I invest in another adapter. Process of elimination!

Ok, thanks. I've re-posted in the Canon discussion thread. I'll measure the adapter length. If it measures 24.3 mm, perhaps it is the lens that is at fault. Is it literally just the depth of the Kipon that I am measuring?

I currently have a Kipon adapter and it cannot focus at infinity with the FD 50mm. It is fine for anything up to around 5- 10 meters, but after that it is terrible. I am not sure if it is a fault with the lens, the adapter or the optical set up with the flange difference created by the adapter. Many thanks in advance for any help or info anyone has.

Hello, Has anyone experienced any trouble focusing the FD 50mm 1.4 SSC at infinity on the XE-1? I use it with the XE-1 and it's great up to about 5-10 meters, but cannot focus much further. I'm not sure if it is the lens itself or the adapter. I have the Kippon FD-FX adapter. I have been wondering about trying a different adapter but I live in Brazil, so acquiring gear is a pain. Any recommendations for other adapter brands? Thanks in advance for any comments or replies.
