Quick tripod shot in my wife's home town (Canterbury, England). Never taken any long exposure stuff there before, but will definitely go back! Shot with a XT1 and 14mm F2.8. Westgate towers and Stour by naddan28, on Flickr

Couple of shots of Reculver Towers in Kent. No filters required and a single frame for both, I love the DR of my XT1! The first was shot with the 14mm F2.8, second 16-55mm F2.8. 3 other photographers decided to shoot the sunset, and unfortunately all three of them decided to stand in the same spot, so I thought I'd try and get a different angle! Thanks for the posts. I decided to go for the Xpro ball head by Manfrotto in the end. Certainly rated high enough and has the friction controller you referred too.

Hi, I did a quick search and had no luck so thought I'd post directly. Does anyone have any experience with geared tripod heads? Specifically the Manfrotto 410 'junior'? I'm in the market for a new head, having had a cheap ball head which drooped and a slow and not much better 3 way pan/tilt Manfrotto head and noticed some solid reviews for geared heads. Does anyone have experience using such heads? Specifically with heavier lenses and shooting panoramas? Thanks, Daniel

Thinking of switching or at least adding Fuji
Naddan28 replied to photoSmart42's topic in Newbie / Self Introduction
Former Panasonic G3 & GH3 user here, I started with an X100S and I really liked the ergonomics and images. I decided to trade my M43 gear in an XT1 + 14mm, 35mm f1.4 & 56mm. Never looked back since! The colour, depth of field and resolution alone are a huge step up before considering the ergonomics and other benefits. -
Ditto and it's only on iOS devices.

A covert bag for traveling in cities
Naddan28 replied to ajurjans's topic in Bags, Half Cases & Straps for Fuji X
I use a Billingham bag, not obviously a camera bag. Having very nearly had my Fuji gear stolen in Rome (literally the thief had his hand on the bag but a kind shop owner shouted him away) a couple of pointers: 1. Don't assume thiefs look like thiefs - mine was in a suit just tying his shoes! 2. Keep your bag In your eyesight at all times - mine was carelessly under a seat and I was drinking. Stupid error. If I have to place my bag under a table etc, I at least wrap the strap around my legs so it can't be moved. 3. As horrible as it sounds, in some European cities you just can't relax to much. Barcelona and Rome being probably the worst two! -
Travelling Combo X-T1 and Two Lenses (But Which Ones??)
Naddan28 replied to bhamx2's topic in Fuji X Lenses
I spent a few days in San Fran & Yosemite and shot the whole thing (bar a couple of panos on the 50-140mm) with a XT1, grip & 16-55mm, absolutely loved it and wouldn't hesitate on using that combo again. The WR & hassle free nature of the zoom (whilst still retaining prime like quality) was great. Ultimately it made my photography a lot less invasive on the holiday which if you're travelling with others is something worth considering. -
Hi, Is anyone else getting redirected to spam sites when accessing the fujirumors site? Dan

Interesting article. Echoes my views, camera phones are fine for snaps etc but lack the control, specialism (through lenses) and IQ for serious images. Although saying that I'm not sure the average joe can always appreciate these points. My dad for example has a iPhone pano printed on canvas (about 30"x12") above his stairs. He's happy with it, I can't abide it, composition aside, every step up the stairs and you get closer and spot more deficiencies in IQ.

Wow, great to hear and see such large prints being made Fuji X cameras!

Thanks guys for all the advice. I went for the 16-55mm in the end, didn't regret it, we had so little time in so many places not having to change lenses significantly increased my shooting opportunities. The lens itself is an absolute peach, a bit big but you get used to it pretty quickly, after a few days I would say I didn't really notice the weight. Now to process all the images!

Thanks for the input guys. I'm still on the fence, I know I definitely don't "need" the lens, I'm lucky to have such a great line up already. The convenience of being able to spend a day in the bay with one lens is pretty tempting! Cug, you appear to be a local/past visitor, any top tips?

Michael Freeman's "photographers eye" is very good.

Hi All, I am off to San Fran on Saturday for 6 nights, including a day in Yosemite National Park and another day in Napa Valley. I currently have the 14,35,56 and 50-140mm lenses and have been considering adding a 16-55mm to my kit bag for a couple of months. The idea to provide a single, high IQ lens that could let me leave my 14mm and 35mm at home, whilst also having the benefits of a zoom(i.e. no changing lens, variable focal length). Albeit the weight and lack of IS have made me hesitant. So I guess I'd like some help on the following: 1. Views on lens selection, can the 16-55mm really cover the 14,35 & 56mm? 2. 16-55mm, any views on it as a general landscape and travel lens? I've seen lots of great wedding/event orientated write ups. 3. Any useful experiences or views to share with my proposed travel plans? Thanks in advance. Dan

Thanks for the post. I think I'll wait and see what the Xpro2 holds true and make a decision around March. Solid 4K video, 24mp & across the frame PD focus points would be great!

Bag for X-T1 plus 50-140mm Zoom
Naddan28 replied to uva's topic in Bags, Half Cases & Straps for Fuji X
Any preference on shoulder vs rucksack? I larger Billingham and flipside 10AW & 20AWs, all of which can accommodate the 50-140mm and 2 smaller lenses but if you're after carrying other bulkier gear, (eg filters) then the larger 20AW is great. I could easily squeeze the 50-140mm, 35, 14, filter set and another smaller 3 lenses. -
I assume that's a no then!

Love the mist in this shot. Really adds some atmosphere.

Couple of early morning sunrises in my local area and some mist/autumn has led to the following: The church in the mist by naddan28, on Flickr Mist and powerlines by naddan28, on Flickr Trees by naddan28, on Flickr Trees 2 by naddan28, on Flickr I don't know why but I've really got "into" shooting panos of late. Also, I had to force myself into the woods for the last two shots, as I really struggle with tree/woodland photography. All of the images above were captured with an X-T1 and 50-140mm. All images involved multiple frames (with the last image being an experiment in focus stacking).

Hi all, I was wondering whether any forum users are actively using their XT1 setup for videography? I've been thinking about shooting a small family documentary with an elderly relative but I'm concerned about various comments/issues raised over image quality and I've seen some bad examples of moire etc. Similarly from my research, it appears the mic Jack is 2.5mm, how are people working around this issue for quality audio? It's such a shame that Fuji can't get good quality video output from the XT1 and let us use our great lens and Fuji colours. Solid video output for occasional use such as this would be much appreciated! Being a former GH3 owner and seeing what Sony have done with the A7 range, I think Fuji are missing a trick and risk losing customers to other formats. For example, I noticed that Zack Arius has opted for a GH4 to make up for Fuji's lack of video support, but had kept his Fuji gear. Whether he'd have made the same decision had the A7Rii been available, who knows! Either way, I would be grateful to hear from any XT1 users with experiences to share. Given the importance of the project I want to make sure I've got the right gear/fully aware of any quirks before I start. Thanks in advance, Daniel

Thanks! I got lucky with the sunset and low tide! I also got very wet but I think it was worth it in the end!
