  1. I take a slightly different view to some people with smart phones. I think they'll kill the point and shoot category of cameras very quickly but serious interchangeable lens cameras will continue to exist, just because a smart phone will never be able to "do" certain types of photography. Things like shallow dof and telephoto would stay out of the the reach of a compact smartphone. I also wonder whether smartphones might become "gateways" to mirrorless cameras with their EVFs, as long as such cameras can continue to offer discernible advantages in IQ, lenses etc.
  2. Welcome to the forums
  3. Thanks for the response Larry. I just need to take a series of print worthy landscapes now then!
  4. I am yet to print anything from my XT1/X100S but we are moving into a much bigger house and therefore planning on making some wall prints. From what I am reading, to I should have no trouble printing landscapes at A3 size or slightly larger and retaining detail etc, is that fair to say?

  6. Thanks for sharing. You've done well, given the time and inspired me to dust off my x100s!
  7. I have never used a film camera, although have considered it a few times, having only taken he hobby up in 2011. In the end, I never did. I preferred to spend the money on expanding my existing gear and learning about photography as a whole, instead of film/printing/developing etc. Why did I move from my micro four thirds setup to Fuji? Mainly for improved Colour rendition and the ergonomics of a Fuji set up. These are two areas that film fans often cite as major selling points for film. So I guess fuji's heritage in film has been successfully carried through to the x series and that's why so many people love them.
  8. I spent four days in Rome and used the 14,35 &56mm lenses throughout the holiday. I found the 14mm was great for architecture and interior shots and 35mm covered general street stuff. The 56mm was more specialised, mainly a few portraits and some cityscapes. I used a gorilla pod too, instead of a full tripod. In some ways I wish I'd taken the tripod but not sure I would have carried it all day. A series of the images from that trip (with exif) can be found here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/77034028@N07/sets/72157651390711318
  9. I use hitech filters, as a good compromise between price and quality.
  10. I love mine, great landscape/architecture lens and a nice half way house between the speed of the 16mm and width of the 10-24mm for me.
  11. Thanks for sharing. Have you got any example images using the above set up? Also, how do you position & modify your flash setup? Thanks again.
  12. I moved to Fuji for: 1. Manual controls 2. Great lenses 3. Colours 4. Company ethos - i like fuji's philosophy with firmware updates etc
  13. Can I please ask how are people generally lighting these great images? They appear to be on location shots in a lot of cases, which I guess makes studio style lighting more difficult. I am looking to branch out from travel/landscape photography to include some portraiture shots too, but lighting is my biggest fear! In fact here is two I shot yesterday using natural light and my XT1's flash to lift some shadows. Both shot with the 50-140mm lens. Katie by naddan28, on Flickr contemplation by naddan28, on Flickr
  14. Hi all, I just wanted to post a brief intro thread, having recently signed up. I am an amateur photographer, who shoots with a Fuji XT1 and X100S. I previously had a M43 set up and was curious about Fuji, until one day I came across a used X100S in a local camera shop. After several months, I decided to make the leap to a full Fuji set up, being swayed by the manual controls, beautiful colours and greater IQ I felt the fuji set up was giving me, over my GH3 and G3. I brought an XT1, 14mm, 35mm and 56mm as my starter kit back in October and have since added a battery grip and the 50-140mm (got a great price on a used lens that had been used once) to my kit. I shoot a combination of travel and landscape, although i'm starting to build some interest in portrait photography. That new interest has encouraged me to look into the forum, as the Fuji flash set up appears limited at the moment. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read and I look forward to getting involved over the coming weeks. Dan
