  1. Well it's obvious to anybody who knows a bit about programming that providing a beta, quickly "hacked" firmware to four people to beta-test and delivering a finished product to the world is not the same thing. I'm not arguing they could not have done it, but don't jump too quickly to conclusions like "they could just have released it to the public". We're not aware of everything, the bugs, side impact on performance, who knows.
  2. Why not, but can you explain why you'd want that? Do you print really big? Do you feel you'd need better low light capability, or shallower dof? Why would that be worth the weight and size penalty in your opinion?
  3. Just when I thought everybody had stopped making pictures with their X100S because it's unusable and can't make photographs, now that it doesn't have CC or a better AF while its successor has it, and I see this taken May the 30??? Someone should tell this man to stay at home and complain on the internets! Untitled by gioVanni stiMolo, on Flickr
  4. Well if you want to maximize absolute dynamic range to expose best (or better said the reflected DR in the histogram), nothing beats provia, with HL -2 and Shadows -2. This will however give a really lifeless jpeg, but maximizes the histogram DR so you can make a good exposure in a difficult scene, and have a good lattitude to work with in post afterwards. Pro Neg Std is second I believe in DR. Velvia is worst it clips shadows like mad.
  5. You sound like a sensible person. For your next purchase, I then suggest to not buy the thing immediatly (and pay a premium for that) after it comes out expecting 2 years of continuous improvement, but rather to wait a bit and buy it as pretty much a "finished product" (in other words : you get what you buy, and don't expect anything other than possible bug fixes / news lenses addition). So that would be after a few bugs are corrected for all companies except for Fuji, you'll have to wait more than a year because they keep adding stuff for free. Then you won't feel so sorry because another newer camera gets a new colour profile you probably won't use more than ten times, but you don't have it so it's really frustrating, others have it, and you don't, WHY??? Life is so unfair. Disclaimer : I'm not mocking people who want CC because they would actually use it most of the time. I'm getting bored with people who want things they don't need / use and use it as an excuse for talks like "BETTER GIVE IT FUJI OR ELSE...". If you need an excuse to switch brand and spend your money because you feel bored with your photography and think that new gear will give you a boost again, it's fine. Rinse and repeat in 6 months. If you need an excuse so you can stop going out and make photographs because you can't make great photos without CC, so you are stuck waiting for the next FW and therefore for inspiration to suddenly strike it's fine. Rinse and repeat in 6 months when the next colour profile is out. But don't blame it on Fuji, please. Either you really NEED it and you act like a pro, buy an X100T and don't complain. Or you don't really need it and carefully consider if it's really worth it. But you already know the answer to that deep inside.
  6. Ok. Just stick to Oly then, farewell and thanks for the fish.

    bedtime story

Yes but you should rename the topic to add [NSFW]
  8. Shhhht you are way too agitated and loud I can't here the sound of nature in my garden here. Go out and make some photographs.
  9. Moreover you are on the wrong track. Fuji does not make cameras for people who constantly change their mind, toy around and think having CC or ibis will suddenly make them a better photographer. People who don't do photography, for photography itself will always have something to complain about so they have a "reason" to change gear / brand (repeat in 1 year at most). There is nothing Fuji can do about that and that is not the crowd they targeted with the X100S. If you bought one you should know better : it's not limiting in any way to have a very decent AF and no CC. Show me a pic where it was limiting your skills.
  10. Why are you here posting if you're so disgruntled, just go to canikon and enjoy an uninterrupted flow of firmware goodies for 10 years long?
  11. Sure but you can't always step back enough either. If you don't have enough reach with a 56 you likely won't with a 90 either. Or that will be too much. Either way you're screwed if you can't move. And you lose the ability to have a "normal" compression for portraits, with a 90 you're just crushing everything. Really to me the 90 is a fourth lens to have, not a third one. Maybe it's just that it's new so people are excited but will change their mind in 6 months as usual.
  12. I wonder tho how long it would take for most people to get bored with CC and come back to raw editing or other simulations... CC is not the holy grail of film simulation, blues turn green-blue, it has a quite strong red hue shift as well so while it may suit some people, that's certainly not something most would constantly use yet people feel they must have it vOv And I say that as someone who would probably use it way more than most people as I'm interested in shooting JPEG to get a constant look and improve my framing / exposure / effects on hard mode ie with the camera.
  13. I don't think Andrew refers to grip size only, as he stated that the x-pro1 has a perfect size for him, that's about the same grip size as an x-e2 but less than the x-t10 (and even less than x-t1 of course) so it might have to do with narrowness as well?
  14. Indeed, nature's finest but I somehow prefer birds shots with some context like here : 3 by Christophe Branchereau, on Flickr
  15. Well if you ditch your DSLR for Fuji it's usually to get a smaller / lighter package so the argument seems moot to me, you have to make do with the inconveniances coming with it. I know people who stay with DSLRs for this very reason (big hands, mirrorless doesn't feel right etc.) and I say very well. To each his own. Now if I ask them if they always take their camera with them when they go for a walk the answer is invariably no. You can't have everything in this world.
  16. I don't really see how it makes sense to take a 90 over a 56 when you're restricted to 3 lenses only, it's surely not as versatile? I see the most versatile packs as : Cheap, compact and light : 18 - 27 - 35 (35 can make great portraits tbh and is very versatile) High end, more heavy / bulky : 16 - 23 - 56
  17. That's around 6"4. So I have really long fingers. But I don't complain, if a lens is too big and feels unbalanced, you shoud support it with one hand, way better than adding as much grip as you can on the body to hold it with two hands, will never be as stable.
  18. The last thing to worry about is sharpness really, they are all very sharp. The decisive factors are more size, weight, max / variable aperture. In bright sun the evf helps definitely.
  19. Then don't buy it. Then buy it second hand or wait for the price to drop. See, no problems, only solutions. Their main market is Asia, deal with it. Stop whining how a company doesn't design its stuff especially to suit YOU (we understand how important you are but I'm not sure they do) and either adapt or switch brand. Do I complain how an Austin mini is too small for my 1m93? No I drive a Mercedes. Adapt or live unhappy.
  20. But, but the 18mm is garbage it can't take pictures look at the extreme corners at 200%
  21. Ah good, maybe I'll get one once the price drops and keep the x-e1 + 27 for daily casual shots or not so safe environments, I was referring to the x-e1, I'd prefer to see such things that enhance / correct basic functions implemented than new thingies like CC or electronic shutter (we don't even really know if it's doable and some stuff still need fixing or enhancing before adding functions)
  22. Yes spot metering in focus point would be great, also some way to batch process pictures in camera, or at least to remember the last setting to apply on further pictures, it makes me mad
  23. No problem, I'm trying to work on photobomb, "failed" or generally falsely naive picture done on purpose, and there is a long way before I manage to make it maybe more obvious, personally I like these pictures because there is attention paid to the framing and position of people in every single one so even if it's certainly not very good it's not brainless snapshots at all. Maybe you are right and I should keep that for myself tho, and begin sharing only when I'll reach a better level. Cheers, and you can just edit the quote (replace the content with "..." Or something)
  24. OP I look at your book "Searching for Edward Hopper", it's a lot of work and I really apreciate it and the overall feeling, but regarding your post one thing strikes me : I don't think any of those pictures could NOT be taken with a fixed 35mm equivalent, heh.
