dpreview X-T2 Review :: mixed feelings

It gets the gold award, but they also say that it is not for "professionals who need to be able to depend absolutely on the autofocus system."

 

and while on their X-Pro2 review they said that the waxy skin tone issue at high ISO in Jpeg's was now finally far better controlled (so that they didn't mentioned it as a "Con" anymore), on their X-T2 review the waxy skin tones issue is the first they list in their final Cons list.

So dpreview brought us back to the ground. The T2 may rule its class of mirror less cameras but the champion of all classes is still found among the DSLRs with the D500.

 

Of course, at one point I will buy the T2 anyway. T1 and E2s are good enough for most what I do. So the T2 will be good enough as well and will bring some improvement in the AF department and a little bit in the low light department. But it also looks like sensor technology is moving only slowly at the moment. Depending on the review is the T2 only 1/2 to 1.5 stops better than the T1 even if the higher resolution is used in post processing to reduce the noise. And also the latest Nikon D5 and Canon 1DX 2 do not improve the low light performance of their predecessors significantly. So the T2 will likely not be my last camera... So more fun for the comming years.

I really dislike that sentence! And for my experience is simply not true. And i shoot Hockey for work, i can't think to a sport that is more fast and difficult to shoot than that because of the combination of extreme speed/low light!

Every camera will have it's pro's and con's, there will never be an ideal camera for everyone and everything. And reviews are still just a person's opinion... If you want to know if a camera is good for you, rent one and try it out.

I know but when you make such a strong statement you must be 100% sure to have the reason... And that is why i dislike such sentences!

And that's why I called it an opinion and not fact. As long as your remember that sentiment, it's hard to get excited by reviews and personal statements.

 

I do the very occasional review (on request only), but I have no illusions that other users might come to different conclusions. Facts and art don't mix well.

DPreview is like that. They simply haven't got enough sympathy to this brand. So, never mind the bollocks!

The way I read the article was that AF was very good and much better than in past Fuji models.  However, AF tracking not as good as the best in class from their perspective.

I'm not a full-hearted fanboy of Fuji or anyone else (I don't think)  but I just ripped them a new butthole on my blog not so much with the focus issue, but other smaller issues I found, in my first stock outing with the -T2.  It's on my blog if you care to read it.  I don't normally do this, because I don't want to seem like I'm promoting my blog, but it does in fact relate to the X-T2 and a few issues I found.
