Evening lens ?

Hi all,

 

wonder if anyone could help me decide on a lens to compliment my 16-55mm and 55-200mm.

 

Family holiday soon to US - LA, Disney, Vegas and Grand Canyon. Clearly most places covered by existing glass but am looking for a 3rd and final smaller and lighter lens for those times when taking a big one just won't be practical. Am thinking here evenings out, possibly Disney too etc. Trying to decide between 18, 27 and 35/2.

 

Thoughts ?

Having both 27 and 35f2 can say that 35mm without doubt has overall better quality and handling, it's one stop faster, quick and silent... but 27 has "unic" angle of view that let you be nearer and capture more context (18mm might be too wide). So i'll definitly keep these two in my bag.

For crowded places, I'd go with the 18mm on the basis you may not have enough room to step back.

I still love my 35mm F1.4, so I'd recommend the 35mm

35, either version will do fine.

I know you didn't mention this lens, but what about the 23 1.4? It sits right in the middle of the focal lengths you mentioned, is a stop faster than any of the lenses you mentioned, and is IMHO the sweet spot for shooting everyday life (wide enough for most situations, but tight enough to still be versatile).

35/2 is probably too tight indoor, especially if you want to take group photo of people.

I would choose 18 over 27 for extra stop of light in the evening.

 

If you have the 23/1.4. That would be ideal in my opinion.

My go to is the 16 1.4 which has a 24mm FF equivalent.  It's just amazing!  From food photography with it's close focusing, to wide expanses it can't be beat, though I do LOVE my 35 1.4

The 16 1.4 is a wonderful lens. My only issue with it is the size and bulk, which is why I often use the 18 2 instead.
