Thanks for the input guys. I was eyeing the 70-300 as it'll travel very well and gets great reviews. I'll have to think about it a little more. btw I love your style Zurich those photos are fantastic

Welcome. You have to activate „shoot without lens“ in the setup menu of the camera.

I love using the Acros sim to guide my RAW editing. After using 20-22 MP Canon RAW's for years, it's interesting/fun to have all the latitude in these 40MP Fuji files. Yellowstone National Park by the way.

One way to feel better about Fuji's menus is to use an Olympus for a while.

Hi, Bought a 70-300 mm Fujifilm zoom a while back on the
good review of Dustin Abbot.
Couldn't be happier, what a great zoom with super image quality.
Good price to for such a capable lens.

I just returned from Yellowstone National Park with my 70-300 and a rented 1.4 TC. The combo was fantastic in many ways. Light, maneuverable, fast focusing in moderate to better light, fantastic IQ.
Here's a link to my Flickr account with that combo used in the wildlife shots and a few others. I went this route because I read time after time other shooters were happy with it over the 100-400.

That sounds fantastic, I highly recommend the 90 prime on the 5. It's a great match with the 40mp.

If I were going to hang with friends out of ALL my gear I would take two/three batteries, and my XT1 with my 27mm 2.8 (original version)
That's it. The XT1 with the 27mm pancake fits anywhere including my pants pockets so I'd be set.

Blue Zurich reacted to SGinNorcal in Very disappointed...
I have the XT-5 and I can assure you the menu system has a MF Assist with an option to turn it off. When you go to the Menu, are you first going to the AF/MF category and scrolling down to the second page, you will see MF Assist. Go into that and one of the options is OFF. This is the same menu where you change the color for Focus Peaking.
You seem determined to not see this and complain about Fuji. The functionality hasn't changed just the default setting. With this tiny bit of customization, you can control it yourself rather than it automatically shutting off. I think this is inline with the nature of the camera, program what you want and don't have things fixed a certain way that can't be changed.

Blue Zurich reacted to SGinNorcal in Very disappointed...
I dont think its a bug, just a change in default. Have you guys tried setting it up as I suggested? To me, having control of when focus peaking is on is better than the camera deciding. I switch it on and off as I need it with the F2 button, its very responsive.

Blue Zurich got a reaction from ajurjans in Ultra tele lens for Fuji
I do not have the experience of these lenses but have years of exp with EF 400 5.6 and would easily consider using it on my X-T5 with the Fringer. Sharper than most Fuji glass, exceptionally fast AF and gorgeous rendering. Great deals to be had as well.

Both! How is your comfort zone with getting close to strangers? How tight do you like the framing? I personally love the 40mm full frame perspective (27mm on Fuji crop) and believe it's a fantastic semi wide for street and environmental portraiture.

Light seals are something you'd expect to need replacing eventually anyway. I used an FM2, close relative of the FE, for over a decade with no problems at all.

I've only had one issue with ONE camera (Fujifilm S2 Pro) and that includes owning between 1973 and today:
Minolta SR-T101 (my sister still owns it)
Minolta X-E7 ( I still own it and it still works)
Digital: Fuji 4900z 4.3 megapixel - outstanding camera
Nikon 8700 8mp - never had an issue through sale
Nikon 300 6mp - never had an issue through sale
Nikon D700 12mp - Still use it and still works perfectly with over 200,000 images
RB67 Pro Medium Format
2 ea Mamiya 645 AFD Medium Format
2 ea Yashicamat Twin Lens reflex
Fujifilm S1 Pro - ONE of the BEST early digital cameras with gorgeous colors and a Base ISO of 320, 3.2mp
Fujifilm S2 Pro. The S2 Pro developed a bad sensor and Fuji in Edison replaced the sensor, and shutter free of charge with a. two day turnaround after I dropped it off.
X-E1 - never had an issue
X-T1 still own it. Rubber grip started to come loose and I used gorilla glue to fix it
X-T2 Camera took a salt water bath and self-destructed. Not worth repairing per Fuji's repair estimate, sold for parts
X-H1 - Still shoot with it never had an issue
G50R and 100S. -- Haven't had an issue. Fingers crossed I don't

Blue Zurich got a reaction from ChrisWebb in Proportion of people who have never had a problem
Interesting. I attempted to calculate all the various cameras and bodies owned since 1979 and I think it's about 30 - 35. I have never had a faulty new camera. Lenses yes, many times. Decentering was the most common issue.
Like all reviews, you always hear about the negative 100 to 1 over the positive.

Blue Zurich got a reaction from caliwinter in How has your photography evolved since you started shooting
Hi, I have been shooting for about 44 years. Starting with medium format and E-6. My vision and 'eye' back then was all over the place. When I came into digital in 2000 and then FF Canon in 2006 I developed a style and interest in a set of genres that appealed to me. What mattered to me most was the 'me' part not was others might want to see. These styles and techniques morphed and evolved over the years but the main core of what I shot stayed the same.
When I switched from Canon full frame to Fuji the biggest impact was being slowed down. This is something I have employed over the years from time to time but in a purely patience minded purpose. With the X-T5 it was due to ergonomics , menus and an adjustment to the system. Still, the result was similar as in previous years. Akin to shooting with a single focal length to strengthen your technique, I have grown again in my 'eye' what with composition and framing. I have always been a BNW shooter (film & digital) and the excellent sims and great 40 MP jpegs sooc give me further enjoyment with that process.
I am a very happy switcher!

Blue Zurich got a reaction from Drew Eden in Fuji X-T5: Full Performance with Classic Handling
After 40 years with mostly Canon, both film and digital, a brief summer romance with Oly and a background with Nikon film, I cannot state how pleased I am with transitioning to Fuji and the X-T5. I thought I would never leave full frame but here I am and with a widening array of versatile primes at my reach I have no constraints and the files are very manageable. Muscle memory from EOS and dial/button placement was a thing in the beginning but now after a couple months it's been reset. Nothing but enjoyment and great images.

Blue Zurich got a reaction from man-overboard in Are there new compact primes coming soon(ish)?
I would tend to think that the f/2 WR lineup is pretty steady (and not that mature) for the moment and Fuji would have no reason to update it as of yet, even if you have a personal need for compact and faster The 1.4 iterations are still very small by industry standards and are a balanced fit on the X-T series. 5 minutes with a FF body and a RF 50 1.2 and just how tiny the Fuji's are is impressive.

Voigtlander Nokton 23 1.2 has some remarkable rendering. It really shines with the Acros sim.

Blue Zurich got a reaction from MARRIEDGUY9 in Thinking about the 16mm 1.4 for the X-T5...not on the "list"
Sorry I don't have that experience to comment on that combo but I do use the XF 14 2.8 with the X-T5 and it's phenomenal. It's not on the list either and imho, I would not let that slow me down if I wanted a particular lens.

Blue Zurich reacted to geoff.c in Thinking about the 16mm 1.4 for the X-T5...not on the "list"
I shoot with the XT5 and the 16mm, having brought the lens with me from my previous XT2. The lens is truly excellent - fast and sharp to the edges. The manual focus clutch is a nice touch too (although in fairness, not absolutely necessary). I shoot mostly after-dark and landscape shots and this lens spends more time on the body than any of my others. I don’t think you’d would be disappointed with it
