Is it worth it to trade in?
ShutterNot replied to Fran's topic in Fuji X-E4 / Fuji X-E3 / Fuji X-E1 / Fuji X-E2 / Fuji X-E2s
Penis envy ? LOL slinking out of this room before they notice I only have an X E-1 (gasp) -
Based on the latest rumor, there doesn't seem to be anything indicating exactly what sensor will be used. Is Sony delaying their camera because their sensor isn't ready ? If so, the PRO 2 certainly can't be ready either till February - assuming the PRO 2 is using the same sensor. Big mystery.
-
Lets assume it's not a screen protector, then what is it ? Question: Did you ever leave the camera so that the sun would heat up the screen in question. Leave it there long enough it can get pretty hot and do some damage.

I agree. That headline doesn't suit FUJIRUMORS. I thought they had more class. Seems like an all out attack on Ken Rockwell - to what purpose I wonder. Come on folks, if you don't like Ken Rockwell, don't read what he writes. like anything else on the web - including THIS website - you have to take it with a grain of salt. This is to much of a "mob" attitude.

Is this the Ken Rockwell bashing forum ? I couldn't find the review the OP mentioned. Could somebody provide the link for that review please.

Is the DMC-GX8 the X-Pro2 I've been waiting for?
ShutterNot replied to Tom's topic in General Discussion
Having choices is a good thing. I don't think a person should restrict themselves to one brand if they can help it. Over a long period of time multiple systems are possible and affordable. You don't need to buy everything at once. Now that I don't feel guilty spending the money, here is why it's a good thing. I'd been using a Leica R lens 50mm/2 on my Pany G5 with excellent results. I decided to get an adapter for the Fuji E-1. First thing I noticed that the Fuji/Leica combo was awkward to use and that manual focus was less precise VS my Pana/Leica combo. The body on the G5 is small, but comfortable to use and the focusing was more fun, easier and more precise. Images are great. But, bottom line, I am mostly a Fuji guy with a bunch of Fuji lenses that I love using most days. I am happy to have found such excellent use for my Pana G5. I have a couple Pana, but don't use those that much. So there are other reason's than video to choose a different manufacturer. Would I buy a GX8 ? I'd have to try that Leica lens in it first to see how it feels. -
Is the DMC-GX8 the X-Pro2 I've been waiting for?

Seems rather shortsighted to be abandoning a camera line for the latest implementation of another camera line. Is that what camera manufacturers hope users will do ? So the minute the FUJI PRO 2 is out in 2016, abandon the M4/3 line and back to FUJI we go ? To me it's more than just the latest camera body. It's the excellent quality lens line-up FUJI offers at a reasonable price. As for the GX8. It's a gorgeous looking camera. If you already have some decent M4/3 lenses, it makes sense to upgrade. Even if you buy a whole new setup, it's an interesting choice, but to trade in your FUJI gear to get the LX8 ? . -
The Fuji fun factor trumps everything else?

I started with and still have the X100. I wanted what are the most basic controls dedicated to one spot. Having them where they used to be in FILM days is obviously huge for an old timer like me. I played around between OVF and EVF settings at first, but now it's just a pleasure to use the OVF only with overlays. I was hooked and wanted more. I bought an E-1 with kit lens on fire sale. The results with that kit lens just blew me away. The plan now is a P2 or a T2 if either lives up to being a worthy successor. I want that OVF in a camera body. Meanwhile .... I'm building up my FUJI lens collection. Fast quality lenses for me makes the FUJI X series doubly special. I prefer being able to use a fast shutter speed to having to rely on a tripod to steady my shots. -
With respect to e-mail footprint. Most folks access their e-mail online - directly on the server. That leaves as big a footprint as data you leave out on server. However, if you use a client e-mail software package like Thunderbird, you can reduce that footprint out there to just a few files. Thunderbird downloads the files to your PC storage which YOU control and can limit access to. Every time you open Thunderbird it downloads recent e-mails, and if you wish like me, have Thunderbird delete the e-mail on the internet server just downloaded. Cleaning up files on your own computer is another matter, but at least the footprint out there is just enough to be able to communicate.

Case in mind - Van Gogh ? Creating something artistic is one thing, but the way selfies are being created is .... well lets just say cheap and tacky ?

Selfies --- the new art decco ? Makes a person want to cry ...

Interesting take on the internet. I myself try to use it as little as possible. Unfortunately I am at the mercy of the government and money institutions. They don't seem to give a hoot about security of personal data. We are in the dark ages still when it comes to that. Social media sites - good grief - is everybody out there an exhibitionist ? What do I care if your scratching your so and so at the moment ..... Freedom of the internet ? Hogwash. That's a battle cry by corporations to make money of you without protecting your personal information. Oh wait ... wrong site ... this is a camera forum ....

How have you modified/accecorized your XT-1?
ShutterNot replied to Exiled's topic in Fuji X-T1 / Fuji X-T10
That's a shame. One loud mouth to be able to make somebody delete a picture posted in fun. -
I don't think one "too small" camera for Andrew makes a trend. FUJI is just trying to capture additional market share. Perhaps the M4/3 crowd ? Citral's not so tactful comments makes me wonder though about how big the American market is vs the Asian market. It's too glib a response to blame it on "the FUJI cameras being built" for the Asian market. I can see that perhaps the T-10 was built for the Asian market exclusively, and is being sold all over.

I'm still waiting for the contact lens that takes holograms, with built-in stereo mike and wi-fi ....

DARKNJ - I use the E-1, I did not mean to infer the OP get the E-1. I was suggesting he get the PRO 1. The prices you quote for across the pond make that also a better deal. Some time this fall (if the price is right) I hope to pick up the PRO 1 body for myself, but for right now, the E-1 is great. I just don't care for the EVF on my E-1. The OVF on my X100 is much better for my eyes and the PRO 1 has a similar OVF. The only reason I got the E-1 in the first place was to try out a FUJI glass. I got the E-1 for the price of the kit lens plus $1 here in the US. I was blown away by that kit lens. Since then, I have been building my X glass collection.

Not to be critical of anybody recommending a newer model FUJI, but why ? Is the image quality that much better ? Other than software changes (not sure all is an improvement) what real advantages do newer models offer ? Seems to me that for anybody starting out the PRO 1 is more than enough of a camera and from what I hear on these forums, it produces outstanding images, as good or better, than newer bodies. I use an E-1 myself and don't plan to upgrade until the images show real improvements. Hmmm ... wonder if I should duck at this point (quack quack)

Five Things Fuji is doing horribly wrong
ShutterNot replied to Vaquero Photo's topic in General Discussion
I second the sentiment - Buy the camera that suits you better than FUJI if you think FUJI is doing things horribly wrong. It's a FUJI forum consisting mostly of people that like FUJI - for the most part I would think - not that there isn't room for improvements. Listing improvements that could be made would have been MUCH better approach. -
I think I will stick to cameras and leave the vacuum cleaner to somebody else. That kind of example can ruin it for the rest of us guys. I better hide this response before she gets back ....

Why JPEG files are suddenly good enough for me.
ShutterNot replied to abjurina's topic in General Discussion
Interesting reading here. Disk space is cheap these days. I save both JPEG and RAW, but when I import the files using LR, I import the RAW files into a sub-folder from where the JPEG files are. LR can be set up to do that automatically. Since I use mostly JPEG, the RAW files are out of the way, but available for when I do need to go to them. There is no additional time involved. -
I have the Coolpix A, and that is just a tad sharper than the X100. Hope FUJI manages to actually improve on what the GR and Coolpix A are capable of. Hard to imagine how. This could be a looser.

Sistine Chapel to Tuscany, what would be your 2 lens line up?
ShutterNot replied to ssobers's topic in Fuji X Lenses
I agree with Patrick FR. The 35 and 14 are the way to go. I don't have the 35 - yet. It's fast for low light and it's a good all around lens. I do have the 14 and it surprised me. It's a fantastic lens to take for broader views you want to capture. It's fast too. Did I mention it's sharp.
