What's your instagram account? Let's add everyone!
neal3K replied to Jose Carpin's topic in General Discussion
I don't like the Instagram format/options so I don't post there. But I do follow, mostly national parks. I like the flexibility and groups in Flickr. I'm mostly into landscapes, rural decay, infrared (I have a converted X100S) and other assorted subjects. Mt about me page with samples I picked plus my most popular on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/people/97423979@N00/ -
Possible to disable Advanced Filter?
neal3K replied to silverfstop's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
Probably a language difference. In American English, the bottom three icons are wrenches. I agree with the recommendation to read the manual. When I have something complex (from cameras to cars), I read the manual the day I get it and reread it again after I have been using the item for a few days or weeks. -
Which film simulation mode best for Landscape
neal3K replied to Siimonn's topic in General Discussion
I use Provia/standard for almost everything and tweak in post-processing. Works for me but lots of folks like the very subtle effects of others. When I don't use standard, I go to Classic Chrome. Since you are shooting landscapes, why not try an assortment of simulations on each shot or at least some shots to compare on your monitor or prints later? -
My New X-100f
neal3K replied to Tommyboy's topic in Fuji X100VI / X100 / X100S / X100T / X100F / X100V / Fuji X70
Great photos and I totally understand your excitement. When I got my X100s a few years ago, it totally transformed my interest in photography from mainly vacation shooting to active photography with planned photo shoot trips. My excitement still continues. I later got a X100F and had my S converted to infrared. Now I carry both. -
It is beautiful and offers everything I need. But I already have a X100F in Silver/Black and love it. Next upgrade though, likely brown.

Great shots here and I enjoyed all the photos in your blog post too. If anyone wants more X100 Cuba shots, I shot my color shots with a X100F and my B&W mostly with my X100s infrared converted Fuji. Mine are in my Flickr album. https://www.flickr.com/photos/97423979@N00/albums/72157653927959735

Nice ones; much more colorful than the ones I have seen.

B&W negatives «scanning» using a X-Pro2
neal3K replied to Denali3times's topic in Fuji X-Pro 1 / Fuji X-Pro 2 / Fuji X-Pro 3
Thanks for bring up camera scanning. I have given it a try thanks to you. I had originally planned to use contact printing and scanning of the print but now it is much quicker, easier, and better. I am testing Arista Ortho film and learning how to shoot and develop it in 4X5 and 5X7 formats. I don't need all the scanning equipment since it is not a large batch process. I just put the negative on my contact printer, light it up and shoot with my X100F. I just hand hold the camera. It is not a macro camera of course but gives high quality images that I crop as needed and then get a good quick look at my shooting and wet processing results. -
Speaking of Dynamic Tone (I dont have "fantasy" on mine), I like the effect of shooting certain subjects in dynamic tone, then desaturating a bit when editing. I get the old-timey color postcard look. But the subject is important to make it work. Old buildings rather than nature, for example.

Thoughts and advice on travelling with X100T only
neal3K replied to Foto.scot's topic in Landscape & Travel
I just got back from a three week trip to Australia and was happy with my X100S (converted to infrared) and my X100F. (I had my iPhone for a back-up but the Fuji's were flawless.) But I have not used interchangeable lenses for about 3 years* now and am happy working within the X100 limits. If I need a wider angle, I just shoot a panorama and crop what I want. Telephoto shots; I just crop what I want. Since I rarely do poster sized printing and most is just posted on Flickr and emails to my group, a small section of the original images serves for a great telephoto shot. *My exception is my Pentax 110 film SLR. My other film cameras are Fuji GSW 690III and a Fuji G617 fixed lens cameras. I didn't want to bother with film (and weight of the big Fuji 120 Film Cameras) on my international trip so the X100 digitals were perfect. -
X100F...what an upgrade!
neal3K replied to Naddan28's topic in Fuji X100VI / X100 / X100S / X100T / X100F / X100V / Fuji X70
My X100s changed my photography life. I went from a vacation photographer (mostly) to a photography nut. After I had it converted to dual spectrum (infrared/visible), I bought my X100F. The F is so much easier to use. I get to compare the two a lot since I usually carry and shoot both with the S only set up for infrared now. -
That's about the same year that I bought my first 35mm, with paper route money. But mine was a much cheaper Sears rangefinder. Cool Fujica ad; thanks for posting it.

When I was having trouble, I got this in response to a comment using a 590 filter. I would not expect good results from a 590nm filter when using any non converted camera, the light from 590-690nm will be recorded fairly well while the NIR will be less than 1% of that even with a fairly IR sensitive camera. That is why I was asking. Since your seems to be a 650nm filter, it should let very little visible light in. Let's correspond at my email and perhaps you can send some of your images. nwellons@hotmail.com
-
What is the wavelength of the filter? IR ones go from 590nm to over 800nm. No effect would be expected much below 720mm.
-
Ont thing that helps when processing color IR is to desaturate it a good bit. You may like that better.
-
I'm not sure which sensor your camera uses but I found that different Fuji sensors make a lot of difference in IR effect. My X100s was sensitive enough to take hand held IR in bright sunlight with a 720nm filter. I have had no IR luck at all with my X100F, which uses a different sensor. All that I have tried would be classified as poor images. Even though the X100s was decent, I had it converted two years ago and never looked back. Now I carry both cameras on most of my photo adventures.

Hey Guys -- Is This a Good Fuji X Forum?
neal3K replied to Greg7579's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
I have two X100 series cameras and look at lot of the other sections, partly because there is a lot of overlap in features. And after you have caught up, just click "View new content" each day and it only takes a minute or two to see if there is something interesting to you. -
I think you will enjoy this amazing article: https://wordpress.lensrentals.com/blog/2015/06/i-dont-know-why-it-swallowed-a-fly-weather-sealed-lens-with-a-fly-inside/ In a nutshell: The takeaway message, though, is in the picture you can’t see here. We took dozens of images with the lens before taking the fly out. We shot stopped down, we shot at all parts of the zoom range. We focused close, we focused far. And in no image could we find the slightest hint that there was a fly in the lens. And you guys worry about a dust particle or two!

During the first year I had my Fuji X100s, I dropped it from about waist level to the pavement twice. No damage whatsoever to the camera but a pretty good dent on the polarizer that was then mounted. I've used it for thousands of shots since with no problems.

Quick Menu
neal3K replied to pelli1's topic in Fuji X100VI / X100 / X100S / X100T / X100F / X100V / Fuji X70
There is already a thread on "Q-menu button annoyance" that covers your question. I can add that when you lock the Q-button (which also locks the menu button) you change one irritant for another. When locked and you hit the Q-button accidentally, you get a lock icon in the middle of the screen. Not much better, to me and you have lost the menu button until you unlock it. My reply in the other thread works best for me; just push the shutter button a little and the Q-menu goes away. -
X100v looks
neal3K replied to nvp155's topic in Fuji X100VI / X100 / X100S / X100T / X100F / X100V / Fuji X70
That would work for me. And change the current function button on the top as just a programmable button, especially one that can pick movie, advanced filter, something else on the drive menu, or flash. -
The article is fascinating. And the last paragraph is the most interesting of all!
