Most would probably want one, but only few would actually buy one.

    Same with the 100-400 poll

    If you would ask:
how much are you willing to pay for the 100-400?
    ~2000$ (f/4.5-5.6)
    ~2500$ (f/4-5.6)
    ~10000$ (constant f/4)
I guess the poll would look a LOT different!

By the way I would vote for a 1000 horse power Ford Fiesta - but I would not buy one

You have a rather defensible opinion, it makes sense.

I agree with pretty much everything you say, and also feel that Fuji "probably is a bit random in how they perform kaizen".

Looks like they are putting a bit of this here, a bit of that here, ah well we forgot this one let's put this but not that, suddenly nothing more, it's not clear for the customers at all (don't think it's really clear for them either), and probably generates some frustration I can understand that. Albeit for me if they don't break anything and keep adding stuff until no more is given I'm perfectly fine, but I can understand it.

The line of conduct you propose is maybe a bit simple (all identical hardware same FW) but would clear things up.

    Hallo Everybody!

As long as I follow these kind of discussions, as far out of the most important questions about taking a picture ist seems to seduct.

Clearly any focal length has its own, BUT how to use it under which conditions and circumstances AND what should be told or explained with the picture to be made, THESE are at least for me the by far more interesting questions for my personal (and most) photographic goals.

Secondly and for my perspective as important as the above is, to really proof Yourself - BEFORE You start "shooting" - which is YOUR OWN inner approach to Your motive and are You shure and honest with the way to go  and as well Your REAL capability to handle this particular focal length properly, not to "zoom and fool arround".

If these aspects are not of any interest, I doubt she or he will feel a real difference between a zoom and a prime and a 23 or 27 or a 35.

This does not mean, there won't be taken good pictures by those photographing people, but my quite long experience with myself, my rather often quite shaky learning-curve and the people I teach once in a while, showed me more often than not: one good lens and two good hearted eys are by far better and more important for taking really good pictures than two or even more lenses and two or "even more blind eyes".

A good picture of what or whom or where ever one can only "smell", "feel", "sense" or however one will call that - and it will be mostly generated inside Yourself. The camera and lens "just do the job then".

So in my opinion one should let your inner eye tell You THE LENS and maybe one for the contrast scenarios .... and that´s it.

.... and in our times, especially with nowadays FUJI the quality of lenses is out of discussion - the quality of taken pictures not at all .... and the digital age has not improved that a single millimeter ......

Apart from that I myself do love the digital cameras I used (Nikon, Canon, Hasselblad, Mamiya-Leaf and Fuji) but far more important was how close I could come to my lens to frame my subject/object properly for my goal - not if to take it with a Leica or a Hasselblad (the question of MF vs. FX vs. APS-C is here not to be addressed)

So I´d like to state: We all have to get our "inner eye" honestly close an "in artistic love" at least to ONE prime lens before we even think and experiment to much around with anything more - if not so, the quality of our work and/or joy won't develop anyhow!

Loving Fuji, the lenses, the sensor, the colors, the size, the weight and the fun, joy and perfection I feel with these great tools   !!

    Good Night

My only 2 lenses are the 18 & 35mm. I shoot mostly street and portrait. I like the restriction, it forces me to be creative.
The 18mm is optical not the best Fujinon lens, but light weight, small, fast, relatively inexpensive and for street photography more than good enough.

So in short let's just spin facts around until they fit our own biased opinion?

It's strange because I read only "almost", "quite" and "nearly" in the reviews. So let's not spin this : if absolute best possible IQ is what one wants, the primes still beat the zooms on sharpness, contrast, bokeh. Not to mention the IQ of the 10-24 at f/1.4 and f/2.8 is unknown.

Zooms have come a long way and are close, but not "on par".

This is ridiculous. Hoh hehhh I love so much my big zoom am just gonna declare it as good as primes and ignore everything including basic laws of physics and lens design lalala.

But I'd like to have the same color profiles in all my Fuji cameras. And maybe larger (less compressed) jpegs - the same as in my future X-T10. It makes sense to have the same image standards in all devices (much easier post-processing, smoother workflow, easy to replace, etc.).

Who said I don't like Fuji? Way to elude the debate.

I've been there too, wishing things for my X-E1. Wondering weeks long if I shouldn't have bought an X-E2 because I really wanted CC.

Then I took a good breath and went out to make pictures, and wondering about the next one, constantly looking for content, colours and light instead of wondering how the camera could be better.

I modified the raw files of my best ones to make them look like they are from an X-T1 and use the silkypix CC profile on them. That did not change the content, nor anything of importance. It could be nice to give the same look to all of my pictures instead of using pro neg Hi (or Std inside often) but I'd have shitty skin tones. There are much better things to worry about, like how to become a better photographer.

    Bonsoir Toutes et Tous,

Further to Andreas' invitation here is a quick (?) introduction to myself.

I'm Jeremy and live in Montpellier, France.

My encounter with photography goes back to when I was 8 (56 years ago) and I discovered the alchemy and magic of the dark room, having been given an ilford sportie and a couple of rolls of 127 film.

After a teen break where rock music and young ladies were of greater interest ;-) I went back to photography, bought my self compact 35 mm camera and set myself up a darkroom.

    In color I used slides.

Like many of you I have used a fair amount of film and digital equipment over the years and have found that what is important is how you can get the maximum out it for the kind of photos you take.

I came to Fuji as I 'played' with an x100 in a photo shop in London, when it came out in 2011 and it gave me a nice feeling. Last year I bought one second hand and it immediately relegated my heavy DSLR to the cupboard. I have since traded in the latter to acquire an xt1 with 14mm and 18-55mm, which basically covers the focal range of my old Pentax MX and lenses (24, 35 and 85mm), which I used for 30 years, prior to digital.
    This is all I need.

As for what I like to take - landscapes, nature and things because they are there.

I shoot raw and post process (in Capture One now, Aperture until June 2014) - echoes of the darkroom, I suppose. I convert most to black and white.

The final word I do photography because I find it creative and I enjoy it.

Sorry if I have been too long.

Looking forward to sharing and exchanging experience and advice.
    Best regards

Seriously, Fuji has no obligation to provide these updates to superceded cameras, and to do so would actually be counterproductive when they are in the business of selling cameras. Y'all asking for this all the time need to make a decision - do I really need these changes? If yes, BUY A NEW CAMERA

Obviously people think only about themselves and are unable to see that right now someone who doesn't own an x100 and wants to get one has quite a lot of reasons to grab a T over a S. It's smart from Fuji.
Would they put cc and all on the X100S much less people would buy the T.

I think they know very well that someone who already owns a S will not that likely upgrade, and probably wait for the next gen, the decision to not upgrade the S is not meant to push them towards the T, it's meant for the newcomers to grab the T IMO.

Now all this "if Fuji doesn't upgrade my camera that was so awesome 1 year ago, but now doesn't have the same feature as the newest one so it's suddenly a piece of junk, I QUIT U BE WARNED FUJI !!!!" is so pathetic... Better laugh about it I suppose.

I don't really see how it makes sense to take a 90 over a 56 when you're restricted to 3 lenses only, it's surely not as versatile?

I see the most versatile packs as :

Cheap, compact and light : 18 - 27 - 35 (35 can make great portraits tbh and is very versatile)

    High end, more heavy / bulky : 16 - 23 - 56

citral reacted to flysurfer in My problem with Spot metering...
Spot metering is nice in manual exposure mode (M). It gives us a direct zone reading wherever we point the camera at, and this can come in handy if we know what zone we prefer for a specific part of the subject. Experienced photographers know what zone they want for freshly fallen snow or a caucasian child's face (just two of many examples), so for users who know what they are doing (obviously a near-extinct breed in this day and age of smartphone photography), it's a quick way to check exposure. In this context, interlocking the metering area with the active AF frame makes a lot of sense, if not for metering frame position, then for metering frame size.

Seriously how big are some people's hands? I'm 1m95 (6ft5 for those of you still using medieval measurements), and by all standards I have really big hands... And I've never had issues with any camera, not a DSLR, not a small Micro Four Thirds system. First of all, a camera should be held by the lens barrel. The back hand is for support, not the main grip... That's how it was tought for decades and this still applies today. That grip should be comfortable on any camera body, unless you are using large telephoto lenses and need extra support...

Also, how did everyone manage to hold a camera before the advent of the big DSLRs? Surely there were big people then too...

I use the X-T1 with the battery grip sometimes, and that's already a huge camera for my taste... Big hands or no big hands...

Mate, way too much "analysis" or may I say "bar counter psychology".

My point is you criticised my previous avatar for being offensive, mocking someone who can't handle a camera properly. As everybody understand, an avatar depicts one self so it's only self derision as I consider myself a complete noob (albeit with an eye and a rapidly growing photography culture, see I'm not that hard on myself). Also loved how the camera strap turned into an infinity symbol, I love symbols. Many ways to interpret a picture.

You didn't even know that picture was from a world famous photographer, yet you found it a shame, so heh I suggest you spend less time thinking about gear and more time in photography books.

Being cynical / corrosive / ironic does not necessarily mean one is unhappy with himself and hard on himself and the others. It can just be the mark of self derision and having found oneself (which usually means accepting you can't please everyone). Not everybody gets it and certainly not carebears, always has been always will.

Anyway both our replies are way off-topic so I suggest if you want to respond, to do so per PM, it's not a battle arena but a public forum, and I will happily discuss with you in private about my supposed unhappiness.

Like it or not, we are in a time when a two year product life cycle is expected for almost any technology.

The market decides this for itself, saying 'you must have...' for the six months of a product's life, 'you should have...' for the next six, 'you still have?' for the next six months, and then 'why do you have?' after that. By the time you bought the X100s, it was already into that second phase of its life cycle (which is just about where the X100t is now, BTW).

I use an X100s and while I agree that I'd like the improvements you suggest, we don't deserve them. For the record, the original X100 owners did deserve the FW upgrade they got after the camera was discontinued, because it turned the X100 into the camera it should have always been from the outset. We X100s owners didn't have to suffer the same blunted camera system at launch, so there's no pressing need for firmware updates.

Like many imaging products in 2015, Fuji's biggest competitor for the X100t is its own past. Demanding Fuji make the X100s into a quasi-X100t is letting the competitor win, and ultimately we all lose.

Moreover you are on the wrong track.

Fuji does not make cameras for people who constantly change their mind, toy around and think having CC or ibis will suddenly make them a better photographer.

People who don't do photography, for photography itself will always have something to complain about so they have a "reason" to change gear / brand (repeat in 1 year at most).

There is nothing Fuji can do about that and that is not the crowd they targeted with the X100S. If you bought one you should know better : it's not limiting in any way to have a very decent AF and no CC.

Show me a pic where it was limiting your skills.

I don't think Andrew refers to grip size only, as he stated that the x-pro1 has a perfect size for him, that's about the same grip size as an x-e2 but less than the x-t10 (and even less than x-t1 of course) so it might have to do with narrowness as well?
