  1. globalisation. Large companies produce wherever they see fit the items which they sell to produce at a price which they can can position the item on the market. The important thing is the QC. Yamaha the largest musical products company in the world . Ha factories in Japan, Indonesia and China. They make there student models in China ( because labor cost is affecting those the most ). From this point of view it is not strange that a camera for the more budget conscious consumer, the X-T10, is made in Thailand and the X-T1 is made in Japan. Also this tells you something about the positioning in their market segment ( expensive in that segment) of a camera such as the X-70.
  2. cheers , just a nice watch, a little large for everyday use but very useful for diving.
  3. it’s unlikely that there is anything else , made by a 3rd party company, out there for a camera this young, besides Other Fuji cameras don’t have that luxury too. The X-T1 has a extended eyecup but I don’t think that it would fit the X Pro 1. Several people have been hacking things for the X Pro 1 a dn I’ve seen one which hacked a large eyecup for the 2 but they all used the “ basic” eyecup. Fuji will be able to replace it, for sure. It won’t cost a fortune.
  4. Always difficult to make decisions with someone else’s wallet. But even if money would be no object... since many here have made often enough that kind of comment when I have voiced thrift concerns, one should wonder whether buying something that will stay unused would be a good attitude towards not wasting. Call me a moralist, which indeed to some extent I am, although I hope not to come across as a bigot or a luddite, but I like the luxuries of life but I despise waste. In other words, I am not rich now but I was better off in the past. I have always enjoyed things but never wasted money into consciously buying something that I wouldn’t use. If I did I would have sold it. This was precisely what I did with the 10-24. I bought it and used it with great pleasure but at a certain point I noticed that, in practice, I used it 90% of the times on 10mm only. The Autofocus in these wide lenses is, the way I use them, not a relevant feature. So I sold the lens to a friend whom needed it at a small loss (his gain), bought the 12mm Samyang and everyone was happy. Besides, a lens that you leave at home isn’t going to help you when you need it and if you duplicate things at some point you will end up bringing the wrong lens for the purpose with you or you will take too much weight and volume with you. I remember once, many years ago, one of the first assignments which we ever did in my beginning studio in Milan was actually something that my more expert business partner ( he was my former boss) had arranging. We went to a trade fair and he wanted to impress the customer ( a consumer electronic magazine) so we took all the formats which we had at that time : 35mm, 6 x7cm, 4” x 5”. We arrived there loaded with equipment as mules! In the end we could have done everything with a lot less. From then on traveling light ( but use big bags) has become my mantra.
  5. Cheers! I have a couple of ecodrives myself, one is my diving watch ( here shot with 60mm macro, normal and with a close up lens + 2) http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=2856 http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=2858
  6. Here the camera costs still the same €1.199 BUT there is a temporary cash-back of €200 ( which is only going to increase). However, as we’ve seen with other examples, the BeNeLux importers have been very slow at doing any price drop compared to their British counterparts http://www.kamera-express.nl/product/12193714/fujifilm-x-t1-body-flitser/ I am being told that following the X pro 2 introduction the sales of the X-T1 were hit seriously ( and that the X-E2S will probably be one of the most collectable cameras in future years since they aren’t selling them in any large numbers at all!). Of course it looks like everyone is holding his breath. Of course the secondhand market reflects that but amazingly a lot of sellers aren’t aware that they are offering a secondhand camera at the just under the price you pay for a NEW one! In fact most hover around the €850 to €950 mark which is absolutely unrealistic if, considering the cash-back you pay €999 for this camera new in the shop. Fuji strategy to phase the introduction of similarly placed models into a given market segment looks like is stimulating sales of the X Pro 2 milking the novelty factor to the outmost before introducing the other Pro model X-T2. The release of rumors, pictures, pre-production models only works as a stopping device for the sale of the actual models. I am not sure how they deal with this with the shops. Suppose that a shop like the one I’ ve mentioned above with many shops around several countries has bought a certain amount of camera bodies to keep in stock, the moment Fuji introduces a newer model and rumor spread they no longer sell those at the intended price, so they sell them, maybe, later on, at a price maybe lower than they paid. Do they get compensation from Fuji? I suppose they would. As for the X Pro 1 they still have the kit for €899 with 18mm and 27mm, body at €549 with an extra battery, still very convenient but there are very few takers.
  7. with the capability yo use high ISO the Fuji lenses, especially the wideangles, shouldn’t be judged on the maximum aperture
  8. I‘ve owned and used for over a year the 10-24 , so I am familiar with all the focals in between, to me 12 and 16 are very close, enough to not to want to have both, perhaps with a different wallet one sees things differently.
  9. after owning the 10-24 for over one years and using it a lot, I can tell you is great, but I don’t regret having swapped it for the 12mm Samyang not one time or one moment!
  10. a little bit wider and a lot better
  11. Patric’s advise Is most certainly good advise but the difference between 12 and 16 ( once you have them both) will be too little to warrant having them both. Unless you absolutely NEED the autofocus ( which would make the best use of the 1.4) the 12mm is at f8 a focus free lens.
  12. acronyms don’t make for good communication, one can get easily confused
  13. When I was 18 I used to think that one doesn’t need a camera to “ take" his pictures, but now that I am older and perhaps wiser I no longer think that. A Dutch photographer, Paul Huf, told this story once. An artist had asked him to take a picture for a project that If I remember well was called “ the great nothing” , it was a picture of a white wall, then printed on paper. He said that he could have just as well used a piece of white paper the result would have been the same. The artist insisted that it was done like this, the proper way. There is a sacrality, an importance in taking the picture and there is another one in processing. But the process should be a gimmick. I suggest otherwise to look up the term mannerism
  14. I like the ability shown off here, but perfection can be extremely boring.
  15. beautiful images but they are all the same, really.
  16. they sell these pencils now fuck-photoshop-20110202-121614.jpg
  17. the acronyms get positively in the way
  18. I don’t do this kind of “ action shooting", so I wouldn’t affect me. Yet, so many cameras for so many people
  19. I don’t understand why you can’t zoom, I tried my lens on it and works, what is exactly that you cannot do?
  20. an aged modern digital camera, a new meaning to the expression “ Contradictio in terminis "
  21. Are you missing something? I don’t know. Probably not. Fuji and Canon are different cameras they suit different people and different shooting styles. If you feel that dissatisfied and you wonder whether you have missed something... there is a good chance that you are missing something. Perhaps the classified section? http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/classifieds/ I am sure someone would be able to put you out of your misery and relieve you from this burden leaving you to your Canon pleasures. As they say, to each his own. Having been there and done that ( although mostly in the studio) cannot see myself, again, burdened with the weight and size of a Canon in real life. But maybe you don’t mind that. As for sharpness, I really don’t miss any in most lenses ( some of which are non Fuji native ones which don’t even have the benefits of software correction). The extremely humble 18-55 is one of the sharpest lenses that I’ve ever used in my whole life. I am reminded every day of its qualities. But again, to each his own. If one system would be the only one capable to fit all the so many needs there wouldn’t be so many camera, so, maybe, indeed, this system might not be for you. Good luck!
  22. true but it is a large computer pocket probably fitting a larger computer. It measures 37cm width to almost 27cm in the height but it might fit the 38 by 26cm because there is some “ give” being a relatively soft material ( it’s difficult to be precise in measuring exactly because it is soft). You must have tour reasons to want to edit your picture while on the go ( I only ever did take a MacBook when I was on the job and really did this only to show the client the shots, not so much because I was going to do any editing myself then and there!).
  23. A combination of Aperture and the NIK suite, noise control annd sharpening, integrated within, has worked for me the best.
