  1. Good Gaffer tape leaves no gunk. Gaffer tape is not duct tape, duct tape leaves a mess, gaffer tape doesn’t.
  2. yes, some things are better not being understood, sometimes even MORE so by those who do those things...since one might discover sides of one's personality which are better left uncovered. Discussing things that we don’t like is what we all do. Just look at politics. I am sure you have opinions on something that others do or think and you don’t think or do yourself. A forum is a place of discussion and we discuss things. Also things like these. Discussions are free and are only limited by forum rules, this discussion breaks none of them, so we are allowed to discuss it, that’s what a discussion forum is all about. Discussing things... not just nod yes.
  3. the gaffer tape is another type of affectation, as you can see it is carefully placed where the model and brand of the camera will be...don’t show the brand of your camera at all cost! The whole thing started in movies where you show brands only if they pay you and if they don’t they blacken the name of a camera (and other things). So someone read in this what it was not and took it as an incitement to fight consumerism or assess your individuality. Some folks do it because the don’t want to advertise, some others do it to, supposedly, not attract the attention of thieves. I don’t understand both stances, and I’ve said so many times, but apparently there are people out there who really remove any brand from their clothes, cars and other things like that. I go by the motto “ surtout pas trop de zèle” I don’t normally pay attention to what kind of things ( because it isn’t only cameras, apparently) my neighbor uses and thieves just see someone with a big black object in front of his face and a bag on the side. They have a split second to make a decision whether to snatch or not and they are more interested in the timing of their action than the camera which they might be stealing. But we all have to find justification for our actions whether irrational or not.
  4. Mold is not necessarily visible and often clothes which somehow have got wet and were kept in a warm but damp place, smell moldy, even if there is no mold (not mould by the way) to be seen. The smell in itself is the proof of the persistence of the fungus hyphae, even if invisible. The same fungus which might colonize your lenses too. I personally wouldn’t take the risk. But maybe all your lenses are WR and they would be rather more impervious to fungus. Good luck.
  5. unfortunately this is probably the reason that the seller got rid of the bag in the first place and you would have been better served by taking full advantage of the ebay guarantee and sending it back. Since you seem to have it treated already with febreze I can only suppose that the terms of the guarantee have expired by now. Because of my other interest, saxophones, I am very familiar with the musty smell of old cases. Febreze is ineffective most of the times and at very best changes the musty smell into the febreze smell. I am not sure which is worse . Notoriously the musty smell is near impossible to get rid of. Anyway, the ultraviolets in the sunlight seem to be working better than anything, so exposing the bag (inside out too) to abundant sunlight might do the trick. Some people make use of baking powder ( sodium bicarbonate) which supposedly would absorb the smell but I really don’t see how to treat a bag, especially not one which will then contain a camera (even if you hoover it some crystals might stay behind in the bag and come back to haunt you later on). Carpet foam cleaners are not bad too but often do the same as febreze and simply cover one unpleasant smell with another. Anyway, the musty smell comes from mold , ask yourself if you want to risk to keep your photographic equipment in a place which could transfer mold from the cloth to a lens. Personally, I wouldn’t risk it.
  6. it is not a problem, but it is a “ pretend” decorative element. One pretends to have warn out the camera by work while it was done by steel wool and paint. As said before I have a long scar on my forearm which I got as a 2 year old kid while “ conducting” music on a glass table. I could easily pretend that that was a “ battle scar” which I got from some bar fight but that would be stupid. Similarly if I don’t go scratch my car to pretend I am a rally driver. But some people do. Horses for courses. these are new cars wrapped to pretend they are rally cars.
  7. you should have two settings, one macro and one super macro. if none works as explained here below, there is a problem and you camera needs servicing. OFF Macro mode off MACRO Macro mode SUPER MACRO Super macro mode The following restrictions apply in super macro mode: the lens must be zoomed out until the zoom bar turns white and the flash can not be used. Use of a tripod is recommended to prevent blur caused by camera shake. The shadow cast by the lens may appear in photos taken with the flash at very short ranges. Zoom out slightly or increase the distance to the subject. 8. you need to enable the “ shoot without lens “ setting. Read the manual. This has to be one of the most asked questions here. http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/topic/2705-shooting-without-lens-setting/ http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/topic/3995-x-t2-and-adapted-lens/ http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/topic/3023-need-help/ http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/topic/2317-camera-doesnt-shoot/ and so on ....
  9. well, many talk the talk and not quite walk the walk, so, in that case... the problem is that there is little to talk about, but of course, since people dissected the X-T2 way before it was available in the shops (it has been what? A week?) now the day after this thing is out there ( and won’t be sold for at leas 3 months ) we already start comparing a camera that no one has used yet ( and few ever will) to a camera that has been in the shops for a week and will probably receive several upgrades within a month. It’s the fauna of the FORA !
  10. so, since we don’t know yet, what are we talking about?
  11. I thought that’s precisely what being a photographer was, having a set of skills to operate machines ( cameras and now computers too) and create images.
  12. I’ve never encountered this problem and I still shoot with the X-t1 and see no reason to upgrade.
  13. Never understood this “ problem” too... the so called problem occurred only above ISO 1600, which, if you ask me, is a weird sensitivity to shoot portraits ( especially if combined with the modern religious pursuit of the Bokeh!)
  14. well, there were times when you had some real problems when using a flash in a situation where there would be enough ambient light to create a double exposure. Which is the reason that Pentax came up with those LS lenses but a leaf shutter is otherwise limited because you can never have the shutter speeds so high as a curtain can achieve,
  15. because a focal plane shutter ( curtain) wouldn’t synchronize a flash with all shutter speeds as a leaf shutter does and, for the same reason, a maximum synchronization up to 1/125sec. would be considered a limitation in that respect. But a leaf shutter cannot go as fast as a focal plane shutter, so that has, in itself, a different set of limitations too. Of course, when you have experienced working with the Pentax 6x7 which synchronized only up to 1/30sec ( and had only two lenses with leaf shutter the 90 LS and 165 LS) one learns that there are workarounds but, traditionally, only wedding photographers ( which back them was not one of the main things to do for most photographers as it appears to have become now)seem to feel this limitation. The Pentax 645 had also a curtain shutter with synchro to 1/60 and two lenses ( if I remember well) with a leaf shutter. Of course now many use high sensitivity and want to synchronize the flash with fast shutter speeds, hence the criticism. Different style. Not mine. Two days ago I was discussing with a friend and colleague the thing that some people seriously discuss the fact that Fuji isn’t very good (?) at ISO above 3200. We, both old school photographers, found this utterly ridiculous. Different way to think, old school and new school.
  16. It is not exactly ugly, in fact in may ways it shows similarities to the X-T(1 & 2) but it fails to deliver the “ retro look “ at least that retro look which was one of the reasons of success of the X line, I agree, other than the Hasselblad, that buttons and dials are there to please those, like me, who like them, but I would have preferred a different look. Anyway this is purely academic (to me) because I am not going to pay that kind of money ( we shall see how much it will really be when it arrives on the European market, I think that the difference with Hasselblad will be few hundreds of euros at most) for what I do with a camera these days. I didn’t even upgrade to the X-T2 because I don’t see any reasons to. However should I come into a lot of money because of the sudden death of a relative whose existence I am not aware of ( Not the Nigerian Email variety though ), if I were to consider buying a format larger than the APS-C it would probably not be this camera.
  17. happy shooting
  18. you can say that again
  19. we shall see. Normally $10,000 in camera money translates in €10,000 ( because we have a higher BTW) , at €10.000 I’d buy the Hasselblad.
  20. you have to enable take photo without lens in the menu, whitout this no Fuji camera works with adapted lenses.
  21. I love this, just a little bit more pixels than Hasselblad ... looks like the price isn’t far off the Hasselblad which, to me makes this camera, expensive.
  22. ...and this shows how much the looks are important ( I am not dissing the X photographers just stating a fact) to the Fujifilm buyers. This picture doesn’t help winning my taste. I agree the shape of the GFX ( we’ll take a better look later on) is less than amazing and it won’t appeal the people who bought into the X system, as much for its qualities as for the undoubted charms of the X retro looks ( and functions I love dials and buttons, which makes the Hasselblad a little less appealing than it could have been).
  23. le Grand Format X ! Bien Sur
  24. Much of the popularity of this camera to come will depend upon whether (or not) they will be able to make their camera more affordable than other more established cameras. Looks, has been shown with the X cameras, coupled to good quality of the sensors and excellent lenses, have been able to attract a customer base of “ mature” users and “ hipsters” alike into the X system. But medium format is a different ballpark in terms of possible customers which will be able to shed the kind of money that this systems require. Also, the enduser of a Medium Format system tends to have different requirements especially in as much as making high quality prints. There is no doubt that the buck is , for now, in the hands of Hasselblad. With an entry price of around €10.000 this is still way above the budget which most X users could possibly shed, especially after the rush into buying the X-T2 which has been positively reflected by the fact that, novelty factor taken into account, it has practically monopolized the activities of this forum. Beside the committed pro, only few amateurs with some serious problems on how to dispose of their large incomes will be able to access this market. But like for anything else, if it were only used by people who actually know what to do with it or need to take full advantage of its characteristics, then it would sell to very few indeed. Fuji knows how to entice the general public ( whether capable or not of using the potential of their cameras, some less than expert or dedicated photographers clearly bought into the top end of the X system, which is capable to perform way above the limited abilities and even more limited needs of some of them, even though both, ability and needs, would have been more than appropriately matched by any compact camera out there) into buying a professional camera even if you are a very modest amateur in terms of experience and needs. Maybe they will come up with something that will be enticing the public of “ capable photographers” just as much as the wannabes and make this new camera system a commercial succes this time too.
