    Introduce Yourself

Hi everyone. Just bought my retirement gift to myself - an XT-5 with 16-50 and 70-300 lenses and cant wait to get started. Used to be a keen photographer before life got in the way and have continued, albeit with phone, but despite it taking decent photos, I want to move on to the next level. Really excited about to getting to grips with this beast and realise what a steep learning curve I'm on and will be looking for plenty of advice and tips.

  4. I also have a Fuji XT-5. Mine doesn't have these problems. You should send it in for servicing.

    Fuji Birds

interesting story, maybe.......I took a photo on a pond that included this bird house that I assumed it was empty, I got home and looked at the photo and noticed something peeking out when I cropped in...............I went back and took some closeups with the 150-600. Surprised he put up with me being so close.

    Sharks

OK, they aren't real. It's a shark exhibit at my local museum. Very dark in there—I had to rate the ISO at 6400 and 8000. GFX100RF.

  22. GFX100RF. Very close up—it's only 1 ⅓ inches wide. First light in the forest. Hand-held. Carrying a tripod around on a hike would not be enjoyable.

    Fall pictures

Again locally, the colors are starting to pop on in... maybe take off down a back road or two to see them. Go early, you can get better seats for the show.

  24. Nothing is perfect and everything is a compromise so other brands and other FF cameras will have their own issues. For myself on my XT30, I've disabled the touch screen and the various function buttons so I can simply concentrate on exposure and composition. My only wish is, and a feature that I'd get a new camera for, is to be able to set a double or triple push requirement for the menu button.

  25. The fans are flying in to get good seats for the next round of dragonfly gymnastics... The competitor is not ready, apparently something on the equipment is not right... Everything is now sorted, ready to go... And THERE IT IS!!! The Handstand!!! Of course with that many arms, how hard can it be?

  30. No, I was not joking. Reread her post, the first sentence is “The focus mode selector button on the front of the camera has me baffled.” which is what I explained in my answer: the focus mode selector button. My CSM explanation is essentially the standard approach Fujifilm has taken for some time. Explaining the frame rate differences as I did to someone brand new to the camera seems an easier approach to understanding than saying it is 20fps vs 7fps. Not to mention, the following is how Fujifilm describes it: “Continuous AF: Focus is continually adjusted to reflect changes in the distance to the subject while the shutter button is pressed halfway. Use for subjects that are in motion” https://fujifilm-dsc.com/en/manual/x-t5/taking_photo/autofocus/ You have to go to page 166 of the manual to get to a very brief explanation of CH vs CL without any context. High speed capture vs slower speed capture seems appropriate to explain so that someone that had been given the impression the top dials are needed for the csm button would realize how they work. I think it is better than saying put the csm button on S the top dial on CH and mash the shutter button — there is no example of when to use that or why. The X-T5 is a wonderful tool, but sometimes examples, humorous or otherwise, help new users understand it better when the manual does not help or when people tell new users to just leave it alone.
