I love my x-e2, but it's not as powerful as I would like.  Is it worth it to trade in to my local camera store and upgrade to a better model?  Will all my fuji lenses be compatible?  Also, which model would you recommend assuming I don't want to spend too much.

Of course all your lenses will be compatible!

It is not called X System but only for the new cameras,  ( all all the others out there with this FX bayonet ) it covers all the fuji cameras with interchangeable lenses from the cheapest X-A1 to the newest X-T10.

Whats not “ powerful” in you camera?

The only practical difference between your camera and the X-T10 or X-T1 is the autofocus software ( which for all we know will be upgraded by Xmas) and a better EVF then there is this classic chrome thing which you can replicate anyway in software.

The best thing that you can upgrade you camera with is waiting for Xmas and see what the Fuji-Santa will bring.

To me, although I do own a X-T1 which made it possible while they are not “ yet” for you, the firmware upgrades were only minor although welcome but i was enjoying  even my X-E1 when I had it ( even less “ powerful” than yours) and could still use it now and be happy if I had one.

Don’t let this new form of the Freudian  “ penis envy “ get to you! There is nothing not “ powerful” about your camera! You have all the power you need and I suspect even more than most of us can handle.

If on the other hand, you might feel at such a loss of “ power”... whatever that might be...  that you cannot bear this....then probably your best bet will be the X-T10 which, at the moment, sells for the  same price as the X-E2 still is sold in the shops (at least in my neck of the woods that is) if they would sell them, which they are not, because all the buyers are not buying the “ old” model now.

But you will be offered little by the shop or by other people ( see the X-E2’s for sale in the marketplace here on the forum) and you will lose money, while the best way not to lose money is not to spend it.

Be well and be wise.

Thank you for input.  I really love my x-e2 but sometimes I find that it is 'clunky' and gets stuck or freezes between shots.  I also can't get it to keep up the speed of multiple shots when I'm chasing my kids.  For this reason, I'm looking ahead at someday upgrading, but now that you said there isn't much difference between the x-e2 and x-T1 I'm note sure.

How updated is your firmware? Are you sure that it is the latest possible version for both lenses and camera body?

Hold the “ back" button pressed when you switch on the camera and it will tell you the version of the firmware that you have installed there.

Check this list

The difference is there but not in the hardware but mainly in the software which is not supporting, at the moment, some of the improvements which Fuji ascribed to later models.

Hello!

If you have the latest firmware installed, then take a look at your sd card, maybe the lack of power is there.

I bought a PNY with 100Mb/s and experienced a big improvement in photo write speed, compared with my older SanDisk 30Mb/s

By the way, I believe if you use a "slow" card in a brand new X-T1 probably you would be very upset with the performance.

Cheers, ...Edupi

If you really feel like upgrading, I would advise you to wait for the X-T2 to be released. Not with the idea to immediately get it, but it would lower the price of the X-T1 and possibly the X-T10 too.

The X-E2 is still a very solid camera, perfectly capable on tackling a lot of things and it's also smaller size than the X-T1/10.

As for your freezing and feeling of having it stuck. As Milandro said, double check your FW version on both lens and body. Also, what are your reference point for when it get stuck ? Couldn't it be related to your SD card too ?

I tend to trash mine after a max of 2 years no matter which brand I use.

The first recommendation I took when I bought my X-E2 (Nov-2013) was to buy the fastest SD cards available. The performance between a fast SD cards and other regular ones can be easily noted in the camera response times, being better the fastest (Class10, UHS I and 45 MB/s writing speed at least).

Also, the current firmware available (3.00 or 3.10 if you use Win10) improves a lot the camera performance over the older one, not only about AF matter but camera response time on several issues (menu access, EVF refreshing and functioning, writing photos and WiFi connection, among others). Then, is desirable you check which is the firmware version of your camera AND lenses, and update it if necessary.

The X-T1 (which I don't like its dlsr-shape -personal taste  ;)) came out less than 3 months after I bought my X-E2 and between both cameras there are just a few differences: X-T1 has a different EVF interface and magnification (this makes it appear bigger than the X-E2), the relevant hardware to allow more buffer and  more frame per seconds, as well as the use of UHS-II-type SD cards (which means faster writing-speed), and maybe (is my own guessing) a bit improved EXR II processor to handle such memory increase and a new type of shutter.

In addition, other actual differences between both cameras have been added by Fuji through X-T1 firmware updates.

If the rumor shared in FR is true (and I have my fingers crossed for), on next December Fuji will update the X-E2 firmware, although is not clear what could bring that update, I hope it includes an improvement on AF and other features now implemented on X-T1 and X-T10.

IMO, better wait the new firmware update, and then decide if upgrade is necessary and why not, go for the X-Pro2 :D

    • Im a Uni Student so im looking for a cheap camera primarily hahaha  I’m interested in if I could potentially fix it but idk maybe too risky. But the price is tempting tbh but couldn’t find any fixes or other people with the same problem  also: what exactly might be wrong with it and how fixable could it be
    • Is this an interesting project or are you looking for a cheap camera? Sounds risky to me but if the condition is otherwise perfect you might be able to sell it on for spares.
    • Hi everyone, I have the opportunity to buy a used Fujifilm X-T10 for around €100, possibly even way less than €100, but the body has a defect that I’d like to evaluate before making a decision. Here’s the issue: Whenever you try to manually adjust the shutter speed or aperture, the camera freezes for about 30+ seconds. In around 90% of cases, the photo won’t be taken at all. However, the camera works perfectly fine in fully automatic mode. The lenses have already been tested on another body – they work flawlessly, so it seems the issue is definitely with the body. I haven’t been able to test the camera myself yet, but from what I understand, the problem mainly affects manual adjustments (e.g. via the front or top dials). My questions: Has anyone experienced this issue before? Could it just be a faulty control dial or a bad contact, or am I potentially looking at a more serious electronics issue? Is it worth buying and repairing the camera, or is the risk too high?  Edit: Is it a high chance for a mainboard defect? Because if it isn’t the mainboard I eventually would try to fix bad contacts or a broken flex cable for example.  Thanks a lot in advance! at
    • I can't find a solution to get HSS working on my GFX 100 II. I'm using Elinchrom Five flashes with the transmitter pro for Fujifilm. Both are supposed to support HSS, and everything works fine on my Canon R5 (with the transmitter pro for Canon). With the GFX 100 II, I can't figure out how to fix the issue of the shutter curtain being visible above 1/125s. I'm using the latest firmware versions for all equipment. I've tried the shutter modes EF, M+E, and EF+E. I've also set the flash mode to manual and to Auto FP (HSS), but nothing works. Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a solution?
