It would seem weird from Fuji to be working on an 1" sensor camera body, specially considering that they finally made some net income last year, 2015 prevision seems rather good also. Logical thinking would be to first stabilize the income and then tackle new products, specially since the 1" marke is rather filled with bridge camera where Nikon is nailing it with the P900 and the Nikon 1 being quite a decent competitor in that sensor size area.

Petzval 85mm F2.2 in Fujifilm mount anyone?
darknj replied to milandro's topic in Adapting lenses to Fuji X
There is an inherent part of using adapted lens, basically you are agreeing that IQ is no longer your true concern but a deep curiosity as what is going to come out of it. Many of us shoot for a living but the same tools used to keep us and those close around us clothed and well fed are often discarded on a hobby level, some of my colleagues won't take any single pictures of anything outside of work, which I find rather sad. Digression aside, while I have not yet jumped the boat to the adapted lens world, I am very interested in what the results can be. -
As far as I know, some countries in Europe still have the rebate and for quick correction, it's 200$ off either the lens alone or the kit with the X-t1, not both at the same time.

Thanks to the false alarm by Phil *nudge*nudge* I would like to leave the 23mm F2.8 pancake wishlist here !

Spain in September. My turn to ask advice on travel kit.
darknj replied to marcelo_valente's topic in General Discussion
12mm for certain, Spain has too many places where going wide is much wanted. I would take the 35mm only if you plan visiting places with low light or during late night time, considering it's summer, the sky would stay relatively well light up to around 9PM, thus the 18-55 might be more versatile here. As for the last one, it's fully optional, but I personnally hate not having enough reach, so I would pack for the 50-230, not in the everyday bag but at least in the suitcase so you can grab it when you feel like you would need it. On a regular days, the 12mm and the 18-55 would be versatile enough for most cities, I would use the 50-230 for places like inside buildings, chapels and other places you want to take specific things out and swap it out with the 18-55 on the carry on bag. -
Help Me Out Here: X-T10, USED X-T1, or Keep the X-E2
darknj replied to abjurina's topic in General Discussion
Updating the X-E2 with a X-T10 is hardly a bad choice anyhow. If time wasn't an issue I would have pushed bit further for either a refurbished X-T10 or maybe an used one in a few months from now. -
Battery Charging from USB Power Bank?
darknj replied to typeronin's topic in Other Fuji X Accessories
The Patona has them for certain, I have one in my possession. As for the Wasabi, I was told on another forum that they are cousin/sister/whatever company of Wasabi, thus should have the same things but just re-branded. BUT upon closer inspection from what I can see on Amazon.com, it doesn't look like the Wasabi chargers have the extra ports like you can see here, it's on the 4th picture. In short, I can confirm that Patona has the traveler friendly charger but Wasabi doesn't seems to. -
I had both my original and the long eyecup come off once but both got caught up in cloths, zipper and whatever there was in my bag and just got moved up a bit, which enabled the IR detector, took me a couple of mins to figure out why everything was put into the EVF while I had Eye Sensor mode enabled... But back on your question, I love it for sunny days, for grayish days, I tend to prefer the original one, specially if I walk around with just the X-T1 and the 27mm lens. Easier to slip into the jacket's inside pocket.

Battery Charging from USB Power Bank?
darknj replied to typeronin's topic in Other Fuji X Accessories
Patona/Wasabi have some of the super handy traveler battery chargers, comes with micro and regular USB ports, AC port and cable for both AC and car ligther. I have been using my old powerbank (5200 mah) as my 4 and 5th battery. If I know beforehand that I will have a super long shooting day, I take out the 20000 mah Limefuel. -
Actually, once the hype wears off, it's just a large open space with tons of PC that's being kept cold that generate a rather loud buzzing sound. It's not really the physical aspect of it, but really the idea that truck load of data are transiting every single second into that place, most likely more information for any human to be able to learn in a life time. But back on the subject. I got a Fuji mostly because it's small, the IQ is great even on a 3 years old sensor, kinda make me wish my old and aging D5000 could produce anything remotely half good as this, plus I could have full physical controls that I wanted. Some limitations that I wasn't aware did threw me off, mostly the native ISO being capped at 6400 and same goes for the RAF files not going any higher than that. I was considering the X-T1 against the OM-D EM-5 with the 5 stops in body stabilization and super small lenses but the sensor size was not really much of an improvement with my Nikon 1 being my regular get go camera.

I know that the Sigma or Tamron (can't recall precisely at this moment) lens hood works on Fuji all fine, a friend confirmed this to me about a month ago but I haven't tested them myself.

Plus it would be super weird from Fuji to release a 35mm F2 without the WR, why would anyone go for the F2, expect maybe for size, when the 35mm F1.4 is commonly agreed to be a great performer and isn't that big to begin with.

I know my camera was behaving weirdly once but upon close inspecting I noticed that the drive dial was stuck between single shot and bracketing and I was able to reproduce it afterward. Not saying it's the same thing but might be something worth checking next time it happens.

Original battery? Nothing unusual on the grip side, like a heat that can be felt or anything like that?
-
I was blessed with the opportunity once yes, had to sign a whole bunch of NDA documents that holds back whatever I have seen there for 5 good years. The IT guy told me the issue he had the most trouble with, is keeping the whole place cold enough but not too cold to bump the power needs too high.

I was lucky enough to visit one of Google's secret data centers in a small town in Europe and it is really impressive, there is enough space for 2 persons to walk but that aside, the whole place was pack with 2m tall cages filled to the brim with servers and hard drives, lots of hard drives, I don't think I could see that many of them in a life time. From what I could get of the local IT guy, it was one of the small replicator center for large nodes.

The SP-1 is also something I have been considering for a long time, almost even before I picked up my X-T1. I considered it in the line of my work but decided against it, I would prefer to keep it as an entertainment, just like my Fuji gear. Anyway, the device is sitting on my Wishlist and one day I will pop it open and get it. Quick questions for the printer owners, how tough are the picture ? I mean, can they be crunched easily like paper (which I doubt) or are they on par with the old polaroid ? Also, is there any color loss as time passes ? I remember some old polaroid getting a yellowish tint after a while.

Sadly not to much, as impressive as that number seems, currently we are using a rough estimage of 4.2 Exabytes (1EX = 1 000 000 TB).... Per month... for just mobile devices... Non mobiles are estimated at 72.4 EB currently. So yeah... as much as I would like to lower down my volume, even if we all do it, it's going to be just a speckle in the fast ocean.

First of all, I love my 18-135 lens, that one stays on my X-T1 the most often but even I admit that the 18-55 is sharper, it's not a mountain high difference in sharpness, but it is sharper, just like the 18-55 is sharper than the 18mm prime @F2.8. Fuji vs Fuji has some nice comparison between these lenses. Does that make the 18-135 a bad performer ? Hardly at all, it is still a great lens that is super versatile and will be able to almost always get you an image of whatever you point it at.

Selfies are hardly a new subject in photography or painting. Capturing oneself has always been around ever since mankind started to draw on walls, the form evolved with each new evolution of technology to end with the current spam of it.

If you think we have it bad at the moment, wait until around 2020, the data consumption is estimated to be multiplied by 10. My household of 3, not counting the 3/4G network, we each use at the very least 2GB of data (up and down) per day outside of week-end, that numbers can reach up to 10 GB per persons on days off and week-ends.

I keep thinking that instead of thinking it as a battle, why not integrate it ? At least part of the technology. There have been bits and pieces coming around, like the touch screen or the like the Samsung NX500 which has a contextual menu very akin to those on a smart phone. The placement of UI is also very well done and a lot more intuitive than many of the camera constructors at the moment. Now, do I believe that smartphones will win the battle against real cameras ? No, at one point customer would want something of higher quality, that can only push us, as professional photographers, to do even better to show our customer base why our prices are high for a "simple" wedding and their smartphones going to fail the job or have that unique day in their life ruined because cousin Tim has a nice pro camera. Still, I get a great laugh when I see some ppl trying to take a picture with their 10" tablet. Ever since I learned photography the smartphones have been nothing but a ultimate fall back solution if I really don't have anything else with me, which doesn't happen often. I am not saying that you can't get good, or even great picture with smartphones, I have seen a guy's amazing gallery and he only had a smartphone. On my trip to Hong Kong, I saw quite a number of young trendy hipster doing Lomo, it's quite different from what I do, but I am still happy to see that there are youngster doing photography and enjoying it.

My favorite camera bag is...
darknj replied to erreflower's topic in Bags, Half Cases & Straps for Fuji X
I prefer to have a lighter every day bag and use a camera bag only when traveling abroad. In that respect my go to bag a cheap innocent looking Fossil Wagner Mens City Bag. It's small enough but I can still carry with me: - X-T1 - 27mm F2.8 - 35mm F1.4 - 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 - 3 batteries + Traveler friendly charger with micro USB cable - BlackRapid Metro strap - A pocket WiFi (turns 3g into WiFi for non 3G devices) - Nexus 7 2013 ed. - Kindle Paperwhite - 30cm x 30cm micro fiber cleaning cloth - Lens cleaning kit (cloth, brush, small bottle of cleaning liquid) - Couple of pens - A small 20L foldable bag for just in case I would need to do groceries Had to steal some of the paddings from my camera bag but I am quite happy with this set-up at the moment. -
It's kind of hard to say how things will evolve in the future, Kodak being the perfect example in this case, they went from the pinacle of photography world to bankrupcy in a matter of a few years. Will Instagram and other copies of it live long enough for our next generation to see it disapear still remain something of unknown. But the popularity of the buil-in filters in smartphones boosted the photograhy world, maybe not in the direction would have liked it, but still more and more picture and being taken every single day, out of those a small percentage is going to pick up a real camera one day and who knows, maybe one of them could be the next Cartier-Bresson.

The 18-135 is lens of compromise, you lose a bit of light/speed and some sharpness to have something that will almost be able to bring you back a picture of whatever you point it at. The 5 stops OIS is also really nice, I can often shot at 1/20 even fully extended at 135mm handheld and not have a speckle of camera shake.
