  1. Funny you should say so @PatrickB, the original Kodak format was round, after all the lenses produce an image circle not an image square or rectangle The world of fantasy features is immense, I always marvel at the fact that some folks find it difficult to stick to reality of what there is and wish for what there will never be. The reason why Fuji doesn’t do that is because they buy a sensor with this size, a bigger sensor would cost a fortune and make cameras cost a fortune too. If my grandmother had wheels...she would be a wagon!
  2. Ok, so, Mr. Ueno tells us that older lenses because of the nature of their construction ( because they were projected and targeted at a medium, film, which could accept and make good use of less perpendicular light ) cannot be as sharp as modern lenses. Sharpness, I may agree, is not everything, but then I think that a lot of the pleasure in using lenses that all of a sudden people took to describe as “ legacy” is simply in the “ mystique" of using lenses that are not autofocus, don’t have any electronic function and are not as sharp as modern lenses. Yes, I understand it is about the picture and not about the “ sharpness”. I was using large format cameras for a long time where the motto definitely is “ Why do it the simple way when we can do it the difficult way!”. I know that has incredible quality but carrying around 50Kg. of equipment to go out there and take ONE shot in a whole day, says, to me a lot about out capability to go for the “ Mystique”, the Zen, of the act, above anything else. Walking the road is the goal not reaching the end of the road. I get that! So, legacy lenses it is! The funny thing is that the body that the people who use these lenses upon needs to be up-to-date and have a resolution that the lenses cannot match or , as we’ve seen with the X-Pro-1 not being updated, people complain about if it doesn’t have the latest firmware, which is a contradiction in terms. Use a yesteryear lens but if your camera doesn’t have the latest software you feel emasculated. Of course anyone can do anything they wish, my reason to start this thread is to call for a reflection upon the new photographic “ mystique” and the fact that we seem to be standing at the same time in the past and the future. Don’t get me wrong, the mystical aspect of the Fuji experience was what got me into Fuji and to a certain extent back into photography where I had been professionally active since 1977 for over 30 years. I love the look and the feel of the camera, and I know that there might be other cameras out there which are better than my X-T1 but are not what I feel comfortable with.
  3. In my book both these cameras qualify as professional. The X-T10 is not for professionals who shoot under the rain, that’s it.
  4. Just how many batteries can you buy with that much money!?
  5. ok...... do this then http://www.reuk.co.uk/Make-a-Mini-Wind-Turbine-Battery-Charger.htm
  6. the hand crank dinamo generator is surely a better thing than any solar panel sold for the purpose of recharging any consumer electronic device. Not long ago on Dutch telly there was an expert ( a regular scientist from the Delft tech-university ) who tested several solar re-chagers and the 3 best products, state of the art technology and very expensive, were just about acceptable when it came to recharge a phone in several hours, all the other tested product were just rubbish. Just buy lots of batteries. Wishful thinking is an oxymoron.
  7. I do manage to use the autofocus with this lens but I hardly ever use the 60mm to the minimum distance.
  8. Those lenses come in a number of versions and they do offer control. The Tamron was already around when there were no auto focus lenses and no electric contacts! Bobitybob, my 60mm became definitely better at focussing with the firmware upgrade.
  9. if you have to use a lens which wasn’t made for a Fuji mirrorless camera ( with no autofocus or any electric communication with the camera) you might as well use a secondhand adapted classic lens and save big bucks. Tamoron 90mm SP or Sigma 105 comes to mind. Yet, I think that the benefits of autofocus are underestimated here, besides, I suspect that the camera does all sort of modifications to the image (even on the so called untouched raw) that we are not aware of, all depending on the camera communicating with the lens ( part of this is also done on adapted lenses that’s why we tell the camera which focal lens we are using when adapted) which are probably correcting some of the less apparent optic defects with software, as far as this can be done. The benefit of which is completely lost on adapted or third party lenses ( with the exception of Zeiss ).
  10. Huge zoom? Umad? I can’t help asking. Have you actually ever had it on your camera? It sound like you really aren’t all that familiar with the Fuji 10-24mm. This isn’t anywhere near the size of the Canon 11-24 f4 THAT is a huge lens. The Fuji 10-24mm is not so much bigger than the 18-55
  11. There is always going to be some degree of compromise and the teleconverter lens is a compromise ( not a bad one by the way). It would be interesting to see ALL these possibility tested.
  12. Well, we are talking of the 400mm here, which is considerably better lens than the 600mm in the video. There are many websites with people showing off the results of their 400mm novoflex. I would like to see a side by side shootout Novoflex 400 and Samyang mirror lens. I am sure the Novoflex wold be quicker in use. Yet cropping the results of the 50-230 is probably also giving very good results for most of us!
  13. if you have the chance do try one of the Novoflex. You don’t necessarily need the “ sniper” stock. Countless of sport and wildlife photographers used these before of the autofocus because the pistol focusing gave them a very quick and precise focus that NO long lens can achieve with the same speed otherwise. this is a German review of the longer 600mm @https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGfm_EIybww
  14. I wasn’t suggesting that you were looking for a camera to do everything I merely pointed out that maybe Fuji is indeed not for you. If you feel the Sony does what the Fuji can’t then go for the Sony. There is no point in using a system which doesn’t please you.
  15. No, nothing to convince you with. If I would have wanted a Sony I would have got that one. In the shop where I got my Fuji they had more Sony stuff that they had Fuji but I got myself a Fuji because I couldn’t stand the Sony’s. I imagine that for you is the other way around. There is no one key which fits all locks, no one lid for every pot... and no camera for us all. Get yourself the Sony if that’s what floats your boat. Have fun with your Sony! Bye!
  16. polycarbonate doesn’t shatter
  17. one day there will be
  18. Operating a long zoom with no autofocus and no communication between camera and lens is not what I would call easy. If you had ever used one you probably would change your mind. Besides the 50-230mm is yes shorter but costs a pittance and I would say that performs very well. I own it and use it. for everything above that a fixed focal length works the trick.
  19. what are you going to use this for? One of the least explored type of lens which was always used with adapters with all sorts of cameras is the Novoflex sniper with the pistol grip focus system. ( here the 400mm 5.6) They come in many focal lengths ( some even offer multiple focal lengths by changing the lens element) and have the advantage of a quick focus system that made them, before AF lenses, very suitable for Photo-safaris. Some of them have a limiter which helps keeping focus only within a certain range, hence being quicker. True these days, outside the shooting of wildlife, you might attract the attention of the police with one of these. Otherwise other lenses with internal focus might be also nice.
  20. I suppose one could go either way, mine were shot with autofocus 60mm macro
  21. The great majority of “ professional” cameras that I’ve used in my rather long professional career were not weather proof. The first ever whether proof camera that I ever had in my hands was the Pentax LX. I don’t think any lens, back then, was weather proof though ( or if there were I was never aware of that detail)
  22. I have a polycarbonate ACMAXX 3.0" HARD LCD Screen ARMOR PROTECTOR. Not cheap, but cheap, in this case, can turn out to be expensive. Beware! Not all 3” do fit the X-T1 you need one specifically made for this camera or you might end up with a screen protector which also covers part of your image!
  23. focal reducers, as you call them, are meant to adapt old lenses on cameras with a sensor smaller than 24mm x 36mm so that there is no magnification used on a smaller format compared to their original one when used on a larger format They gain you also a stop. They don’t work with all lenses because a lens protruding too much inside will touch the optical elements which they contain. You cannot use it to make a fuji lens wider than it is. just google the words focal reducer and fujifilm X, you will find plenty of information
  24. this lens is very cheap to buy these days since Fuji is offering it in a kit with the 18mm and the X-Pro-1 at the total of €899 so, some folks are selling this lens for around €200 to 250 NEW! @alanbill99 nice pic but something really weird is going on with the sharpening of this image. If I look at 100% at the hands of the climber
