Issue transferring from camera to phone using the Fuji App

When I use my phone (iPhone 7) to copy photographs from any my Fujifilm cameras (X70, X-T2, X-E3) When I do this, the file names are changed by the app.

A typical example - Photograph no DSCF5046.JPG was changed to 1B8B3875-2FE4-4323-A09D-513F4A3EF97A-21700-000026662A000D9C.jpg This happened even if the transfer setting on the camera is set at full image size or restricted to below 3mb.

The file number appears to be completely random as far as I can see and consequently the images don't follow any sort of alphabetical or numerical sequence when stored online. The sequence is completely random.

I am using the very latest version of the Fujifilm Remote App and my phone OS is up to date. This problem started happening since an update from a few generations ago and I had hoped that the new latest update might have had a correction. Unfortunately it made no difference.

Is there something I can do to solve this? I have searched online and have had no success or even come across anyone else who even refers to it.

I contacted Fuji but they have said that they don’t have a solution. They had come across the problem themselves when I highlighted it but on subsequent follow up they then said that the lates version resolved it for them, but it didn’t for me.

Has anyone come across this and, if so, have you resolved it?

Perhaps I‘ve encountered the same problem with my X100F. The tranferred photos are in a random order. The only workaround coming to my mind yet is ordering the photos by date/time on my Mac.

That would work, but it's when I add the photos directly to my phone and then back my phone contents up to Google Drive, they are all over the place because uploading to drive changes the date to the date of upload so my back-ups are all out of sequence.

When I take photos, I transfer them from camera to computer to hard drive for my main go-to collections, so they are all in sequences as they should be with the timeline saved according to when the photos are taken. Transferring them via the App to the phone also retains the metadata and info, but not the file name. I don't get it. I'm a bit OCD when it comes to all this and when things don't co-operate I get a bit rattled. I get suspicious then that something else is going to happen.

Thanks for the reply.

Hi,

Last weekend, I joined a workshop which is established by Fujifilm shop at my local area. I do that to have experience with provided similar mirrorless machines with multiple choices of lenses. At the event, I used an X-T20. The device has WiFi connection to remote app. And live view mode and file transfer speed was quite enough. I enjoyed using it.

After that I purchased an X-E3 just yesterday, which I was planning to buy like last 2 months. This device doesn't have a direct connection via WiFi. Only option to connect via BT and it decides when to establish WiFi. But, it is a disappointing process.

It is not working correctly. I did first connection for live view photo shots and display on mobile app was almost 2 seconds late than what the device catch. And I even couldn't open the menu for file transfer. The second and other connection try was unsuccessful. I no more can pair devices. Already tried unpairing and deleting pair history both from X-E3 and mobile.

Is it all same at your devices. How can it be worse on X-E3 than X-T20?

Hi,

I also have an X-E3 as well as recently purchasing an XT-2 and with both of these I have found the download process using the app on my phone to be hit and miss. Sometimes they connect and generally only after a few attempts, just as happens with my X70. When I use the app, I often have to repeatedly add the relevant camera to the application’s list that is located in the drop-down menu at the top left corner of the screen. All cameras have the issue of changing the image file name to a random set of numbers and letters which do not retain any type of sequence.
I use an iPhone 7 with the IOS up to date and the latest version of the Fujifilm app. I would be curious to know if the issue exists for Android versions.
As regards other methods of downloading,  I will always download my photos to my computer and this always works without issue. The proper file name is always retained. I work on a Mac and if I use the application ImageCapture linking directly by usb to the camera it will work as it should. If I remove the card from the camera and insert it in to the computer’s SD slot or use a card reader then it works fine as well.
As far as I can see, the phone app is the only method that causes an issue so I only use it occasionally if I need to forward an image immediately.

Hi everyone. I have the same issue with file name changing with the fuji remote app after doing raw processing /convert and transfer in the camera and sending via app.

Files sent on this app to iPad or iPhone come out with ridiculously long file name of letters and numbers . However the original proper file name stays on the SD Card .

Just contacted fuji .

I seem to have the answer to keep the original  IMG no . It works if you import images to app . Those are the fingernails . After importing close fuji app . Re open app then click on the photo symbol top right hand corner next to menu . This brings all images up . Select image and then press send / upload symbol bottom right hand corner . This will send it to iPhone options email etc or save to photos .

This method keeps the original img no and stops the long no with about 30 letters and numbers . Hoorah 😃

Regards

Stephen

    • ...and, although, I don't use Lightroom, I bet there is a setting/mode in LR that will look at the RAW processing metadata in the RAW file and will show you LR's interpretation of the STRONG GRAIN setting, and other in-camera settings. Certainly CaptureOne the equivalent RAW processing engine, which I use, optionally does do this. You have to remember that the RAW file is not an image, its the data required for a RAW processing engine, like LR, CO, or even Windows Image Viewer, to create one, and they will all do it slightly differently. Software that doesn't have the capability of processing and rendering the RAW file at all may dig out the embedded JPEG thumbnail from the RAW file, and display that instead. BTW - I use CO, rather than LR, because it is widely believed to make a better job of rendering Fujifilm's weird X-Trans RAW files better than LR, and most other engine's.
    • I think I know what you mean now. I noticed the STRONG grain setting in the raw file when I was using X Raw Studio. On other software like Windows Image viewer or Lightroom the grain effect is not showing at all. Mystery solved!
    • Its difficult to imagine this could be anything other than a faulty camera. You seem to have done all the tests to eliminate other causes.
    • Hi Last week during a reportage, I shot bursts from about 5 fts with one of my two X-T5s, for a total of about 100 photographs. I had mounted a Fujinon XF8mm. Everything seemed to proceed regularly without any sign of problems. When looking at the sequences in the car I realized that many photos were completely black, that is, as if I had taken with the cap in front, alternating with some perfect ones and others completely white without any detail. Back in the studio I loaded them onto the Mac and noticed that of a sequence of around 100 photographs, 49 were completely flawed, that is, almost all of them were completely BLACK and some were completely WHITE. The problem was present both on the photo of the Slot 1 card (RAF) and on the Slot 2 card (JPG) in unison, so much so that I discarded the hypothesis that it could be a problem with the memory card. So, to recap: the errors on the 49 offending photos are exactly the same, for both cards in RAF and JPG. After turning the machine off and on again, it started working perfectly again, so much so that in the following days I carried out other jobs, even with gusts, without any problem. Obviously I am waiting for a response from the support to which I sent the offending sequences. I would add that if I analyze the EXIFs of the BLACK or WHITE photos, the values and data that appear are completely normal, that is, they report exactly the same information as the photos that came out well, as if nothing had happened. 1) Before each job, I always format the cards in the machine, with the specific function that can be called up from the menu and quick keys of the XT5 2) The XT5 has Firmware version 2.03 3) The Fujinon XF-8mm lens Firmware 1.00 The problem has manifested itself, for now, only once, intermittently, that is, some faulty photos alternated with perfect ones. In the following days, on the advice of the assistance center, I put on the intervalometer and shot the camera until the card was full for a total of 1600 shots. No problems, everything is fine. What do you think about it? Has anyone had this problem?
