Hello. After some advice.

I recently bought the XF90 & am loving it.

Anybody that has one will know that, when the lens is powered off, you can hear the focus mechanism bonking around inside, especially if you hold it horizontally, and lower first one end by an inch, then the other end and so on.

Now I've never owned a lens that did this before. I know it's the way it's designed, and I've read that the 50-140 and many Canikon lenses do it.

Now, I always carry all my gear in a rucksack. 2 bodies & 7 lenses along with a small tripod & a flask of tea.

I'm English.

I walk many miles .. thousands of steps .. each week, and every step that I take, with the XF 90 sitting in the rucksack, will result in a couple of bonks.

So many thousands of bonks per Month.

..and it's not just a little click, it's quite a hefty thump each time.

So I guess what I'm wondering is, is there any point in worrying about long term damage to a lens that has something bonking around inside ?

I can't find any info from Fuji on this .. you know, tested & guaranteed to be ok for a million bonks, or whatever.

I discovered that if I pack the lens so it's always vertical when I have the rucksack on, the number of bonks is reduced greatly.

Guess that'll help a bit.

Curious as to what any of you may have found out about this over the years, using bonking lenses from other manufacturers...

a.       Don't even think about it .. designed to take it...

b.       Minimise the bonking and you should be ok .. be aware of it..

c.       Don't put the lens in the rucksack unless you know in advance you may need it...

or any other thoughts !!

Ta.

me too. A. I was wary at first but I'm sure it will be fine.

Either that or a mass recall in the future...

Mine does make a load of crazy noises, almost like a fax machine. Also makes like a triple click when you turn it on as well.

Still doesn't worry me.
